Not a question of “resting” more a question of avoiding injury - we need certain key players for the rest of the season rather than for a couple of cup games.
Better give up training too, perhaps. We do better when we have a cup run.

Cork and Twine have to play for me. Vitinho needs some minutes after a few games out, but for the rest I'd go strong, we only play twice in 2 weeks after Ipswich so absolutely no reason we shouldn't take the cup seriously.

BPF
Vitinho Beyer Taylor Mattsen
Brownhill Cork
Tella Twine Churlinov
Jay

Still leaves Barnes, JBG (if fit) and Zaroury on the bench if required later in the match. Ideally we get 2/3 ahead then we can bring a few off early.

IF McNally is still with us he has to play
Not for me. He must be at least 5th choice CB now and the club seem to be wanting him to go out on loan. I'll be semi-surprised if he even makes the bench.

The thought of Foster, Twine, Ekdal etc playing is tempting me to go to this.

It's one of them seasons that will be remembered for years. If you can afford it get gone.

The main positive is our strength in depth meaning whatever team we put out we can still have a good bench. As it’s a week before the next fixture I’d imagine a strong side with maybe a start for Twine .

For anyone who can make this game has got a lot going for it

You'd expect to get to see more of Twine and Churlinov than has been possible at any time this season

There's two confirmed new signings and one other as near as done - all might get minutes

Ipswich are a decent team for the level they are at. Not dissimilar to us in style under McKenna and score plenty of goals

We appear to be taking the cups seriously

Neither team will want a replay as both are primarily focused on promotion so will be set up to get the job done over 90 minutes

Big ground with a very decent away allocation likely to be a proper atmosphere - they had 29k on for the recent visit of Plymouth

Foster on the bench do we reckon?

Really hope we put a lot into this game, I think we’ve got a great opportunity here.

Absolutely buzzing for this game. Hoping for Twine playing just off Foster but would understand if it’s too soon for him to start as he’ll barely have trained. Hope to see him, Ekdal and Al-Dalkhil at some point though.

Reckon Foster will be on the bench. 2/3 days training with the team.

Excited for this game. Ipswich will try and play, should make it an entertaining one.

I'd like to new faces for a start this game, lot's of them get minutes throughout if not, particularly in order: Twine/Churlinov/EJR (right back)/Foster/One new CH per half/Vitinho (for more minutes/Taylor/BPF, along with Cork/Bastien & JBG, plus a really strong bench for wholesale changes, just in case.

Pretty sure that won't happen, hopefully we see some new faces and fringe players though, if for nothing else to keep them interested, fringe players that is.

Should be a very good game, Ipswich like to use the wings especially their right one and the lad Freddie Ladapo is a real handful

Ipswich are a very good league one outfit, plus they get a very large crowd, so they'll certainly create something of a hostile atmosphere. They'll view it as a great opportunity to test themselves against the best team in the division above where they have aspirations to be next season. Having said that, we have enough genuine quality to shuffle the pack, protect certain players and let others have some game time without weakening us. It might just be an ideal opportunity to give Al Dakil, Ekdal and Foster an introduction to English football.

What's your formation? Maatsen on the wing? Or Vitinho on the wing with one of the new CBs playing at RB? Or one of the new CBs playing in DCM with CJER at RB? Or 5 at the back?

I'd really like to win this. I don't think it'd be the end of the world if we lost, or needed a replay, but winning against lower level opposition should be the target. So I'm not sure I'd want to go completely second string. But I think it's also a chance for some peripheral / recently returned players to be used wisely

Obviously BPF and Cork will probably start. Probably Vitinho. I assume Benson and JBG will be rested. I'd also like to see Twine, Churlinov and CJER start, and maybe one of the new CBs alongside Beyer or Taylor

Got to have an eye on Norwich next week mind - massive game

Ideal world

BPF

Vitinho ekdal al-dakhil Taylor

Cork bastein

Darko twine tella/JBG

Foster

Allows us to get some game time to squad players while reducing injury risk to key players. Cork can't play against Norwich so needs 90 this game

Ipswich are very likely to be a championship team next season and the promoted teams are rarely the worst in the division. This is going to be as tought a test as every other league game so it's a great opportunity to give some of the fringe players a chance against decent opposition but I wouldn't expect to see Twine, Churlinov and the three new signings start the game. Like Beyer and Zaroury it might take a while before the new guys are considered to be fit enough and to understand their role in the team.

It would be nice to see Twine get a run out but I wouldn't expect Foster to make any more than a short cameo appearance, I'd be very surprised if Barnes doesn't start. VK talked about getting Benson up to the point where he can play 90 minutes, he seemed to get there just before the world cup and now he's gone back to playing an hour. I reckon we might see him start this one as he did against Bournemouth. Cork probably needs game time because of his suspension.

SD probably didn't make any more changes than VK does but the fringe players seem so much stronger now. Maybe it's because of better use of subs or the new five sub rule but so many players seem to be match sharp now that five or six changes doesn't disrupt the team massively.

Ipswich will be mindful of the fact that they have dropped off of the automatic promotion places (4 points adrift of 2nd placed Sheffield Wednesday who have played a game less), so it will be interesting to see how they view this game in the context of their season, when promotion to the Championship was their number one priority.

Think it’d be good to give a couple of the fringe players a run out but not switch it up too drastically so they get game time with the ‘first teamers’, as well as getting some mins in the legs of Vithino coming back from injury. I’d also like to see more on brownhill in a deeper role

BPF
Vithino edkal beyer taylor
Cork brownhill
Tella twine churlinov
Jay

Bring Al-dakhil on at half time and then Foster on the 55 / 60 min

and the most outrageous bench ever!! surely the strongest Burnley bench for 50 years!
