I must say I would be surprised if they decided to sell so many season tickets - the uplift in revenues provided by matchday tickets is significant and given how may matchday tickets have been sold this year that will be very fresh in the mindset - I believe we are on course for record Matchday receipts this season, which would be over £6.323m we earned in in 2018/19.

If it is so few, there is the possibility (nothing certain) of a membership scheme being introduced to qualify for the ability to buy matchday tickets - this is a standard feature for Premier League clubs. Such schemes require a consistent over-demand relevant to capacity and we may not yet be at that level yet.
I can imagine you’re right about record revenues, given attendances this year, the extra games and cup runs.

I would however, sincerely hope, that increasing season ticket sales took priority over commercial interests. Growing our supporter base must be given priority to grow the club long term, so I’d be shocked and saddened if a single ST holder was turned away beyond what we’re allowed to sell. But not shocked if the 5% are retained in the more expensive parts of the ground.

Re: membership, again I’d be disappointed if this were introduced as making people pay for the privilege of buying tickets wouldn’t sit right or in our best long term interests. But assuming there will be far fewer seats available for walk-ons, I sincerely hope the club would consider a means of prioritising ‘true Burnley fans’ for these tickets based on attendance at games this season so we don’t see all the local United, City and Liverpool fans attending.

They won’t be, Chester thinks Mr Pace is Cyril Sneer

I think our owners are looking to grow revenues and while people may not like what I have suggested (i include myself in that) it would be a pretty common practice for the Premier League and in line with what any sports team owner with experience of American sports would consider both normal and legitimate. If you look at the pricing of elite sports in the US you will see in comparison ours are somewhat undervalued to many prospective investors eyes - that includes ticketing and refreshments

I am not saying it will come to pass just do not be surprised if it does

That is an incredible change overnight! Given that you don't have to pay yet, with the DD option, it is wise to make your purchase today or very, very soon, that's for sure! Good luck.

There's going to be a lot of disappointed people who have bought sub-standard seats in order to swap during the seat swap period.

Thanks for the update, Ian :D

Clearly publication that they’re selling out has hurried people along.

Credit to the club though, as I think most (including me) just think there’s no rush with these things so good they’ve given a heads up.

Thank you NewClaret.

Once it appears on here and then the changes get highlighted, it does seem to spur folk into action.

The value of the board!

Once the decision to attend has been made, then there is every reason to purchase immediately via DD. If you don't like DD, then one of those credit cards with about 15 months 0% apr would be ideal!

Renewed mine yesterday. I've got to say, regardless of which division we're in, at approx. £14-17 a game it's really good value, especially considering how expensive things elsewhere have become recently

Totally agree. The value for money is brilliant (rightly so, I wouldn’t want to see the club taking the **** with fans) - especially if we’re in the Prem, which as CP posted an article about the other day, is effectively the European Super League now. You get to watch the mighty clarets against the best players in the world for that kind of money is brilliant… and probably why the community are getting behind the club in record numbers.

STs are great value compared to walk on prices.

I'm expecting prices to go as high as £50 for the top band.

I can easily see that too, and why not if the demand is there. I'm sure we'll get more part timers coming with a more exciting brand of football, and the odd tourist coming along to see Kompany and some of the international players. It's a fine balance between charging too much and pricing the locals out, but the season ticket prices are very reasonable at least

Think we have to wait and see as we’re not sure how many may have been set aside by the club and been reserved for ‘walk ons’. I’m hoping not one more than the 5% minimum requirement.

Then there will be some existing holders that don’t renew, so the total figure won’t be known until the early bird period has ended, seat swaps have happened and then any remaining have been bought.

But it’s looking like a phenomenal number.

That’s a good effort Zizkov.

Certain you will be able to find a buyer for games you can’t attend given how few will likely be available game by game.

Aye, DD meant 40 quid a month so not bad at all. Especially with CZK being relatively strong against GBP just now

Thanks Ian, so about 50% sold in 24hrs?

Maybe gone by tomorrow? Or perhaps the singles will take longer to sell and it will drag out? Although people buying two singles now might be able to move to sit together during the seat swap period I guess.

Swaps yes, however, it has been mostly singles for a time and they are disappearing! End of the weekend on the cards, for sure. Better get signed up to make sure!

Would be a good message if they sold before 24th Feb - month prior to EB period ending.

Wonder if they are setting up a means of registering for a “waiting list” for people that make enquiries between then and the potential availability again?

That would be honourable, if a W/L was in place. Then swaps first with remaining newly available seats offered to those on W/L. All at the EB price.

Considered switching one of my seats to a cheaper junior one but with the walk on prices what they are it would be false economy upgrading x times per year so the other half can attend. We miss loads per season, living away and having busy lives. Also risks losing the away priority since being a current STH is one of the criteria. So I’ve bitten the bullet and renewed them all again.

They should definately put a process in to allow us to trade back any games we cannot attend. Many Clarets are going to be disappointed with so few walk ons, it is a win/win way to benefit more people.

A good point.

When I booked the RAH, they have lots of 'Members'. Those original seats and boxes purchased in perpetuity, so it got built.

Obviously, members don't go every night. They can release their seat/box for resale. They get the next proce down, for their seat and the RAH get the full price and booking fee. Win win.

I think for this reason, I think ST sales would be much higher if there were a system whereby the holder could “release” their ticket for resale for games they cannot attend.

If sold, the ST holder would then get back average price per game as a club credit on account to put towards future merchandise/tickets, with the club getting the difference for a full price ticket.

It would be a win:win as the club would likely get more ST holders whilst also benefiting from selling more full price tickets over the season.

Think your running count is doing more for sales than our marketing department Ian ;)

Win win.
From the club’s perspective the downside is if that kind of arrangement loses money due to the final buyer not instead buying a walk on and the ground not selling out.

However, as other posters have said, it is an incentive to sell more season tickets, and if the club did lose money for some games it would be negligible, but would create a big fan benefit. When we are as popular as now, it is almost certain to make the club some more cash. Most importantly though, it would be fair, as some season ticket holders have to miss a lot of games for health and other important reasons.

I would assume that the season ticket holder only gets the money if the seat is resold - I believe that is the way it works for Man Utd etc

I think that the point Crosspool was making was that if a ST holder were able to put their seat up for sale, and a buyer bought it instead of a “walk on” seat the net income to the club for that sale would be lower as they’d have to “repay” part of a season ticket.

There are ways to mitigate this of course - you could only make them available when the walk ons had sold out or a certain time period before the match.

First there will only be the '5%' for walk ons. They are mostly posh seats/hospitality. Many would not be able to afford these seats. Some will. The club should have a plan, at least!
