Anthony Gordon
Got the old ‘here we go’ from Fabrizio Romano. £40mil to Newcastle. Surely he’s nowhere near that value?
Re: Anthony Gordon
Better than the £60m they were asking for yesterday. I think they are trying to get as much as they can so they can sign players. If his dives win enough penalties they will be happy with the price .

Re: Anthony Gordon
Done well Moshiri turning down much bigger bids last summer through fear of upsetting the bellends in the stands to the player making him accept this
Re: Anthony Gordon
Just reading Twitter. The Everton fans are having a right go at him for forcing the move after blocking him in and scaring the life out of him, whilst telling him to get out of their club and also attacking cars on his drive. He is doing what they asked and now they are moaning.

Re: Anthony Gordon
I haven't seen a lot of him, so I may be wrong, but if they want 40mil for Gordon, and hope to get Ziyech for 25mil, I know what I would do. Buy Ziyech, and tell them they can keep Gordon. Better player imo, and save 15mil.

Re: Anthony Gordon
7 goals, 3 assists in 65 apps for £40 million for a forward is truly bonkers money.
Of course there’s more to the game than that but 1 attacking return in every 6.5 games absolutely stinks.
Crazy money

Re: Anthony Gordon
Gordon flatters to deceive, he will have to seriously kick on if he is to be worth anything near 40m.

Not sure how he improves Newcastle the way they are playing at the moment. I'm sure they could do better with £40m.

I’m baffled with this one, but time will tell whether it proves to be good business or not.

I think he's overrated he's had a odd good season a few mazy runs a few goals it's enough to nudge the value up in the crazy world of the premium league marketplace.
Re: Anthony Gordon
Maybe Eddie Howe actually knows what he's doing, despite being written off by many on this board when he got the Newcastle job.

Re: Anthony Gordon
Unlike many on here, I actually rate Gordon.
But do I rate him to the tune of £40 million pounds? No. Nowhere near.
Good business for Everton.

Grains of sand in the desert on whether Howe wastes a few quid to the Newcastle owners.
Re: Anthony Gordon
One things certain. Newcastle can sign players like this, completely risk free, as it won't matter one iota whether it works out or not to them in the grand scheme of things.

Re: Anthony Gordon
He's getting out of a club in chaos.
He's going to play for a manager who wants him and could well get more out of him
He plays out wide and up front, like Rashford and with ASM being injured more often they need another option.
He's also young and has potential.
Plus, after the aggro of being hassled by the Everton fans, I'm not surprised he's leaving.

Re: Anthony Gordon
Looked a real prospect when he first came into Everton’s team.
Can see him going strength to strength under Howe, best manager to play the attacking style he has.
From a basket case club to a possible champions league place in one season, good luck to him.

Or maybe Howe thought he could rejuvenate a proven PL goalscorer.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 8:56 pmCertainly not a mistake by Howe. Clearly intended to stop us and nothing to do with what Wood could offer them, as proven by his loan to Forest recently.
Let's not forget, Wood is/was exactly that before he completely lost form.

Re: Anthony Gordon
I doubt very much that was the case, but even if it was it’s still a monumentally bad signing as they would have stayed up comfortably without him.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 8:56 pmCertainly not a mistake by Howe. Newcastle are the new Man City. Buy a player, if it works out, great, if not, buy another player. Rinse and repeat.

True I don't really take any meaningful interest in the PL apart from the teams 7th downwards & I'm including Chelsea & Liverpool who are outside the 7th currently & exempting the 2 currently occupying the higher positions. They can rot in hell for all I care as a footballing entity.

Bizarre if anyone thinks that….
Re: Anthony Gordon
I'm not sure paying 25 million for a player who scored a couple of goals all season was the best way to weaken us to be honest.Rick_Muller wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 8:56 pmCertainly not a mistake by Howe. They could have bought Mee and Tarky for half of that

Re: Anthony Gordon
Back to Gordon, diving cheat. Career performances make me wonder if he is worth £40 m, what on earth are Zaroury and Benson worth? They can't be far off £30 m each at that rate? Personally I think both are better than him!
Hope they both for at least 1 season in the prem. I rate them both far higher than a diver, even without my claret tinted shades on.

Re: Anthony Gordon
If that assessments right which I hope it is we should be raking it next season if the opportunity to sell ever comes along, a few good performances in the PL coupled with the goals it's absolutely amazing how the value catapults you don't need to do that much as well, crazy money for average players.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 28, 2023 12:43 amBack to Gordon, diving cheat. Re: Anthony Gordon
When I saw that Newcastle were prepared to offer £45m for Gordon I fell off my chair with laughter. Really £45m ? Not worth half that. So what do you get for your money ? A player who likes to fall to the ground at every opportunity, someone who likes to leave a bit on an opponents legs after getting near them, a player who doesn't score much and doesn't always get into a struggling team. When you look at the current Newcastle team you would imagine this bit part player will get yet more bit part appearances mainly as a sub. I am still laughing. If Gordon is £45m then St Maximin is worth £180m as he blows Gordon out of the water on every level.

Re: Anthony Gordon
He's finally completed his move to Newcastle, initial fee of £40m which might rise to £45m, 7 goals in 78 games and he goes for that money.
Be interesting how SD splashes the cash if indeed he is allowed to splash it at all.

He'll be allowed. Everton spend over £100m every season on utter shite, to be utter shite - can't see that changing.
Re: Anthony Gordon
Howe isn't in charge of signings up there. His job title is Head Coach. Dan Ashworth will be in charge of transfers.
