Didn't we lose to Liverpool in the semi-final of the Milk cup as well, with us at least winning the 2nd leg?Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 8:57 pmHe did, Billy with the other....Still we contrived to get relegated.....What a season that was.

Indeed we did......that's why I referred to a special season.
FA Cup 6th Round, League Cup semi-finalists and then relegated.
Has it ever happened before ?

Wigan famously won the FA Cup then suffered relegation.

We played well at Anfield. We had two one-on-ones but didn't take advantage.halfmanhalfbiscuit wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:24 pmLost 3 - 0 at Anfield I believe.
And then won 1-0 at home, Derek Scott

Was Derek Scott married to Brian Miller's daughter?

Then draw at Palace, beat Palace in the replay, beat Charlton, Fulham & Newcastle and still relegated !!halfmanhalfbiscuit wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:24 pmLost 3 - 0 at Anfield I believe.

Didn’t the Middlesbrough side with Ravanelli and Juninho lose both cup finals and get relegated in the same season?Royboyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:09 pmIndeed we did......that's why I referred to a special season.

Going back a bit further, Leicester ( with Andy Lochhead ) lost the F. A. Cup Final and got relegated in 68-69.
Re: FA Cup 5th round draw thread
My first ever trip to Anfield. Derek Scott had a couple of decent chances but it wasn’t to be. Liverpool won the league at a canter that season and we were one of the few teams to beat them with the 1-0 win at the Turf.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:26 pmWe played well at Anfield. Re: FA Cup 5th round draw thread
For the slightly more senior members of this board Hillsborough 1974 is a day to be wiped from the memory, my 1974 was the replay at Hillsborough in 1983. As a young lad I remember being in awe of the Kop filling up at the far end of the ground (still an open terrace then) with a crowd of over 41,000 at the ground, that's as good as it got, the rest was a nightmare.
Re: FA Cup 5th round draw thread
Lack of free dates because of the World Cup break.Roosterbooster wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 7:37 pmWhy is this? (I assume it's because there are very few lower league clubs left and they are the ones to mainly benefit from replays)
And why are there now no replays in the EFL cup, but 2 legs in the semis?
Seems a bit random and non-sensical to me
Someone please enlighten me

Re: FA Cup 5th round draw thread
Really well tbh. Scott missed the best chance and the typical juggernaut of the 80’s Liverpool team got the customary help from the officials. A goal that was suspiciously offside and given, a soft pen and a scabby deflection (think that was the first hammer blow just before half time). My memory is a bit hazy tbh but I remember a great view from the side in the Kemlyn Road stand when they were sponsored by crown paints. Sourness was being a petulant you know what all night too.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:26 pmWe played well at Anfield. We had two one-on-ones but didn't take advantage.

Re: FA Cup 5th round draw thread
What’s the reason for Rovers playing their replay tonight?
Re: FA Cup 5th round draw thread
I find that strange too. All the rest next Tuesday.

It's because Blackburn's game this weekend against Wigan is on the Monday night, on Sky.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 10:10 amWhat’s the reason for Rovers playing their replay tonight?

Re: FA Cup 5th round draw thread
Game was shown on ITV highlights. Taylor scored his third in front of the CF stand and did a little jig. Gerald Sinstadt commentating, "and well may he dance" or words to that effect.
Just found the highlights on You Tube. It was Martin Tyler and not Sinstadt but the words are correct

It's a long time ago now, but I think at least one of them (if not both ) was Derek Scott.

Both Derek Scott. One of them he went round Grobelaar but only found the side netting, the other i think the keeper may have saved. We were in the Kemlyn Rd stand that evening and as others have said, played really well. There were very few top division sides that got anything at Anfield back then, never mind a lower division team.lakedistrictclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:59 pmIt's a long time ago now, but I think at least one of them (if not both ) was Derek Scott.
I remember a mate at school who was a big Liverpool "fan", had the shirt, scarf, bag etc. He took the **** a little bit the following morning, until i asked him which part of the ground he watched the game from. He couldn't believe that i was at the game (14 years old at the time) until I produced my match programme and shut him up. In fact the first time he saw a LIverpool side of any description was a reserve game on the Turf with me on Saturday afternoon, sat in the Bob Lord stand. Liverpool had what would have been a half decent first division side out, Steve Ogrizovic in goal, Avi Cohen, David Fairclough and a couple of other recognisable names all featured.

I was there too, nut a little older than 14. Scott could have seen us through to glory, but wasn't "Razor" Ruddock the bad actor?Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:23 pmBoth Derek Scott.
