I consider mesen a pie oficionado; Haffners, Cissy Green's, etc but it was only today that I came across Bacup Pies on Hebden Bridge Market. Superb!

Re: Bacup Pies
When will the club wake up and take advantage of all the local independents producing brilliant food and drink?
Sick to death of rubbish Hollands pies and watery beer on offer in the stands.

Re: Bacup Pies
Unfortunately, small producers don't have the capacity. I agree, it would be great if we could buy a decent pie and pint on the Turf.
Those Bacup Pies look good. Do they have a shop or is it market trading only?

And no onions for Hotdogs, with Americans at the helm you'd have thought that would be a no brainer

Re: Bacup Pies
I wouldn't take this as assumed. If they have a big order, some may be able to fulfill it. Especially the local breweries.Clovius Boofus wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:32 amUnfortunately, small producers don't have the capacity. You only need to take a look at the @FootyScran twitter account to see how many clubs (even those with stadiums of 50K+ capacity) are leagues ahead of us in terms of their F+B offerings.

Re: Bacup Pies
I have to admit it's 30 years or more since I tasted a Holland's meat and potato pie but I still judge all pies eaten since against that last one. What's happened to them that people call them disgusting?
Re: Bacup Pies
Does the Bacup pie head butt you after you've had your first nibble?
Re: Bacup Pies
Local pie makers can't afford to supply the club, Hollands sell for about 30p per pie!

Re: Bacup Pies
Totally agree, but if the club feels the need to rip the fans off with such a high mark up then local manufacturers will either have to sell at a loss or we pay a fortune for a quality pie. It seems to me that the club needs to cut their extortionate profit, support local businesses (and I don't really put Hollands in this class, they're part of a group). And try thinking about supplying the fans with something worth paying for.MancunianClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:05 pmThere's always a cheaper option, doesn't mean it's the right one. There are clubs out there serving pies from local bakeries - no reason we can't.

Re: Bacup Pies
We're definitely both of the same opinion on this one mate. Hollands give the "illusion" of being local, but they're far from it really. Quality leaves much to be desired too. In fact, seeing you write out the truth of it like that has annoyed me so much that I'm taking a Haffners pie in my coat pocket to the next game.Jel wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:26 pmTotally agree, but if the club feels the need to rip the fans off with such a high mark up then local manufacturers will either have to sell at a loss or we pay a fortune for a quality pie. I always take a pie from my local butchers. Cheaper and far better quality.

Re: Bacup Pies
I didn’t, my brother did for my nephew
They never said they were out of buns and he’d already paid for it before they handed it over (as you know they aren’t the quickest at serving)

Re: Bacup Pies
Holland pies are decent enough for what they are , a mid market low/mid priced “ working man’s pie” that can be consumed in the increasingly insane HT scrum . Local pie makers simply not got capacity and they’d be squeezed till the pips squeaked on margins .
It’s a minuscule window and simply a “ bums on seats” necessity.

Ha ha, hey I lived in Bacup as a kid. Its not a place I'd be in any rush to head back to...though I could be tempted to search out a banjo-less Bacup pie

Re: Bacup Pies
If your local - bake a pie or two in the oven prior to setting off. Wrap it immediately in tin foil when it comes out . Take to the Turf. 1st half it’s a great hand warmer. H/T tuck in as then it will be at the perfect temperature. You can have your favourite pie on the match after all.

Re: Bacup Pies
Fair enough, that’s pretty poor then. I thought they surely would have communicated that they’d run out of buns before letting your brother go through with the purchase.
