He'll be even more full of himself now he's got a job at a "big club".

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Listening to a Bradley Orr podcast the other day and he said when being in a relegation battle some players will want to be relegated. Either the agent have told them it will be easier to leave their current club if they're relegated or they have playing bonuses in their contracts which means they'll be on more money in the Championship due to playing more games.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Congratulations to Sean,my money would definitely be on him keeping them up if I was a betting man..

If you look at the squad he has inherited then they should be OK, it's not going to get them in Europe but there is enough to stay up comfortably. I wish him the best .... until they next play Burnley!

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Think Everton have made the right choice between the 2 on the shortlist that they had.
Has a big job to do there IMO not just on the pitch but off the pitch too.
From speaking to Evertonians - Perception I have is that there is likely to be unrest from the fans about him and if he doesn't do well at the outset, he won't have the patience he got here. Also considering the friction between the players and fans and the fans and the board - it just makes the job harder.
As CT says - Will be interesting to see if we do see him in the opposition dugout as the Everton Manager given how that club acts at times.
Good Luck SD - Think you're going to need it.

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Really pleased Sean has got a new post with an historically strong PL side . He may have got stale with us , but I still think his strong mentality and beliefs about hard work, shape, playing as a team to help each other are what can turn Everton's fortunes.
Its his choice of coaches that I have a big question mark against, as he is going to need a lot of help. I have no feedback on Howard and assume he is good in his role, but feedback about Woan & Stone and their relationship with some of our squad was concerning

In the next 9 games they play Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man United and Spurs. Alongside a few toughies like Leeds, Fulham & Brentford.
Not an easy start for him at all.

Apparently it's going to be a scene from Ice Station Zebra where he walks through a blizzard and enters Goodison Park n just his shirt sleeves.

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
No, and I’ve not looked at whether they’re home/away. And I suppose that will mean an easier run in perhaps, but if he was hoping for a few games to build the support, he’s got a tough job.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:01 pmI suppose there are no easy games. Mind you, would back Dyche to find a way to hold/beat Arsenal and Liverpool are in bad form. Instant hero status if he performs miracles in those two.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Come on, history like this means nothing. You can be undefeated for 10 years against a team. You turn up with a new manager and 11 new players and it means nothing in the next game.

Why would it matter when we play them next? Come on, you know it means absolutely nothing.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
So what are you basing Everton being strong on then if not their historical perceived big team status?
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
There seems to be an assumption that Dyche will ride in there and have his framework sorted before the weekend. How long did it take him to get his stuff together with us?
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
They've played some very good football this season and dropped points where they shouldn't have. They have a big stadium and big support. They are 'too good' to go down and think they should be more mid-table.
Why do you see them as a small team?
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Mentioned this to an Everton fan at weekend, it took him a good few months. It was really only after a full pre-season with the team that things started to change.

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
During December/January Everton had a comparatively easy set of fixtures losing home matches against Wolves and Southampton and away at West Ham.
They can’t keep on playing teams in the bottom half just because Sean Dyche has been appointed manager.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
I’m not seeing them as anything, I was asking why you were seeing them as a big team if not history. It’s all an irrelevance anyway, if we’re in the Premier League next season some ‘small teams’ will beat us and we’ll win against some ‘big teams’, but would it worry me if Everton were in the Premier League over the likes of Forest, Soton or Leicester? Certainly not.

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
I suppose it depends on how long you've been watching the club and how you see our ex players and managers.
If you've seen the Clarets under quite a few different managers with many players coming and going, most of them on very good terms, you're not likely to be able to resist putting them into some kind of perspective.
I find it hard to believe that anybody who saw the Clarets before our, relatively, recent forays into the Prem could possibly be indifferent to those that made it happen.

You blinked. Palace and Southampton.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Like many I'm conflicted as I wanted Everton down as we passed them on the way up. But SD gave me some great pleasurer over numerous years, so I'm hoping he keeps Everton up, I think he can but it won't be easy or pretty.
On Everton fans, I remember when SD first started at BFC, lot's of our fans were very critical and wanted him out, however that all changed slowly during his first full season, will be interesting to see if the Everton fans recognize what they've got, after so many years in the management wilderness and being mediocre for such long time.

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Even awful teams can scrape together a half decent performance for a couple of games in a season. Not sure it's enough to claim they play good football. The rest of their games have been absolutely dire. The quality of football Lampard was serving up was absolutely appalling for the most part.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
My point was that Everton out of the Prem makes it weaker. I think I'm correct in making that point. Now if you disagree, then we'll agree to disagree.martin_p wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:24 pmI’m not seeing them as anything, I was asking why you were seeing them as a big team if not history. Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
As expected but now officially confirmed, all he can do is give it his best bash & hope for the best, it'd be some fair going to do worse than frank lampard he really needs a victory as soon as possible I feel or some battling performances with a draw or 2 to take the pressure off. I think the next 2 games on paper might be difficult for them (but you never know) so he might have to wait till after that for some points.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Ok we’ll agree to disagree, but I’d argue that keeping a team in the Premier League that has been rubbish for years, changes managers every year and has a toxic fan base is a plus for every other team looking to stay up!
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
We're still agreeing to disagree
Like you say - toxic fan base. Why not enjoy watching them go down?
They've also never been relegated from the Premier League. So will be a nice bit of trivia.
Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
I'm half expecting an Everton match thread alongside the Burnley one.

Re: ARTICLE: Sean Dyche is the new Everton manager
Good luck to him. I am somewhat surprised that Steve Stone is with him again, but beyond that Dyche has earned his go at an established Premier League team and I hope it works out for him.
What Everton have needed for ages is clarity of thought and vision. That's partly because they've had so many managers in such a short period of time, all with different approaches, and partly because some of those managers, including Lampard, have appeared to have a more complicated philosophy.
I suspect Dyche's first task will be to simplify the messages and get Everton organised in a relatively straighforward set up. That should be enough to keep them safe, because they've got more than enough good players to accomplish that - particularly if Calvert Lewin stays fit. To be a real success he'll have to expand from there in due course, but that's something I imagine he'll worry about later.

Huh? Considering Sean Dyche as a hero and describing him to be a Burnley legend doesn't Mean supporting Everton. Stan Terment had other clubs so did Jimmy Mullen.HiThere wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 3:35 pmit doesn't mean anything of the sort. It means supporting the club in the here and now. Leighton James left the club 50 years ago and had other clubs and is still a hero. Its just a fact that managers and players that give you pleasure stay with you all your life.
The whole forum is full of people who map their lives through the lens of Burnley FC is one small way or another. It isn’t conscious it’s just being human.

I wish him the very best.
He was brilliant for us and would in my view have kept us in the PL with the right backing at the time.
I won’t speculate on how he will fare because he’s going to a difficult club at a difficult time.
He’s a great manager and once again proved the doubters wrong that he won’t get a PL job at a big club.
And despite their current plight Everton are a big club.

Wish him well after all he did for us. I don't mind if they stay up or not, will be a good match up tbh.
I'm not sure how he'll get on - his qualities are clear, but I think the coaching setup became a big problem at Burnley, even with a squad of strong characters and limited ego. There's a lot more to deal with there and Woan/Stone's 'old school' approach may do more harm than good. Or it maybe exactly what they need, who knows. Penny for Dwight's thoughts in particular.

My son is an Everton supporter so I hope he can keep them up. I genuinely wish him all the best and hope he is successful at Evertom. Just read the Everton forum and generally there are quite a few who are happy with him and think he's just what they need in their position.
I think some of the supporters have been reading our forum as one posted this
"Welcome to Everton Sean Dyche. Exciting times ahead."

Like many I will always be thankful for everything he did for Burnley football club. An outstanding manager for us and suited our set up in terms of budget until it became impossible.
He may though have a task on his hands with Evertons delusional fans but has a decent squad to work with, plus maybe one or two before the deadline.
Be interesting to say the least.
