We stayed in Cavtat, due to a recommendation from another board member.
Handy for the water taxi for Dubrovnik, which is a great place to visit, you'll go more than once.
We stayed in the Hotel Supetar, right on the quayside, next to the bars and restaurants, and the private launches that come in every day are stunning.

For day trips, the best 3 we did were Kotor in Montenegro, a unesco site and beautiful spot.
Mostar, to see the locals diving off the bridge, that's in Bosnia.
Corcula, take in the vineyards along the way.

Enjoy, we did.

There's a museum inside an old fort on top of the hill which is quite interesting. It details the war in the 1990s.

Highly recommended booking a day trip to Montenegro, there's deals on Viator. A day is enough to see it and they take you to all the best bits

Theres also a nature reserve island called Lokrum which is very close to Dubrovnik. You can book day tours down at the harbour. The island is largely unspoilt and has many peacocks strutting their stuff.

Be sure to try and find the bar that's on the "wrong" side of the city walls overlooking the sea, you'll see it if you walk around the top of the walls. There's a sneaky door through the wall and it's a great spot to sit and watch the world go by

Dubrovnik is beautiful and you'll enjoy but it is likely to be very crowded during the daytime in June. I'd second the recommendation for a trip to Korcula...from memory I think it takes about an hour on the ferry/hydrofoil to this island and the old town there is a sort of mini Dubrovnik. I stayed 3 nights on the island and loved it.
Would also agree that a trip to Kotor, just across the border in Montenegro, is a must. It has a spectacular fjord-style setting . Montenegro as a whole has a lot of places worth visiting but this is probably a bit too far afield from where you are.

In Montenegro I can strongly recommend this place, just outside the pretty village of Virpazar next to Lake Skadar for a night or two. A boat trip on the lake is a must.

Hire a car and drive to Krka national park which is near Split.

It’s well worth the visit

Cavtat is a superb place to act as your base. Just around the corner from the airport but you aren’t affected by planes landing and taking off. Stayed at the Hotel Croatia on top of the hill overlooking the town. Eating in their outside restaurant on an evening, you’re overlooking Cavtat’s port which is all lit up. There are regular water taxis to Dubrovnik, approx 30 minutes away
You can catch daily ferries to Plat, Mlini, Srebeno and Lokrum, Korkula and Elaphite Islands. You’re close to the borders of Montenegro, Herzegovina and Bosnia. Can go on longer trips to Serbia and Slovenia.
Day trips to Kotor(old town),Perast and Budva. Absolutely stunning scenery.Croatian wine tasting tour,Mostar situated in Bosnia and Hercegovina,Ston, famous for it’s oyster production,Mljet, the National Park and Medugorje where the Christian Sanctuary is.
Cavtat sits in 3 bays, which take approx 50 minutes to walk around as you traverse the headland. Beautiful port with some stunning boats arriving on a daily basis. Lots of restaurants serving all types of fayre. Finally the locals are extremely hospitable and surprisingly have strong affection towards the Brits.

We did the Mostar trip from Dubrovnik. They tied in stops at a waterfall complex and a castle on a hill. A good day.
A lot easier trip now as when we did it you had 3 border crossings. Into Bosnia, back into Croatia and then into Bosnia again, both ways. The Croatians have now built a bridge to unite Croatia and it cuts out two crossings in each direction.
As you stand on the bridge look down to your left and on the far bank is a restaurant that have the cevapi sausages, brilliant but full of fat.
The streets to the bridge are market stalls with plenty of leather bargains

100% go for a day trip on the ferry to the tiny island Lopud…about an hour away. One of my favourite places on earth.

I've been a couple of times. Last May we went just for a few days to Dubrovnik and stayed in "Art Home Arthur" which is a small hotel within the city walls. Convenient for everything. The travel agency is in the same building and they let you leave luggage there if you need to.
https://www.booking.com/Share-3HXlZl. If you go in Summer it's best to get out of the walled city during the day as the cruise ships come in and its packed, but in the evening it's great.

I've also done 10 nights, with 5 in Dubrovnik and 5 in Cavtat. Dubrovnik was at the Hotel Argentina which has a pool right on the edge of the sea. In Cavtat, like others, we stayed at the Hotel Croatia, which looks a bit ugly from the outside but from the inside it's very nice. Cavtat is more laid back with not much there but for restaurants which overlook all of the fancy yachts that have moored.

If you like Dubrovnik, there are loads of places to go in Croatia, like the islands of Hvar, Korcula, Vis, Brac (fly into Split) and Rovinj (fly into Pula)

I stayed at Hotel Lapad in Dubrovnik
Great Hotel with a bus stop at the front door, city center a couple of miles away but the bus service is great
The hotel is located by the harbor
I would stay there again.
