It is daft imo but inevitable once the media jump on it.
The crazy thing is, I bet 99% of the folk that sing it have never thought twice about the meaning of the words to Delilah.

The irony is that in both songs, Tom Dooley and Delilah, the perpetrator is brought to justice. In Tom Dooley the reason for the killing is never explained and is certainly not justified by the lyrics, unlike Delilah. It doesn’t in any way celebrate misogyny but rather highlights the consequences of senseless violence.
As has been pointed out will there be a similar ban on Miss Otis Regrets or Folsom Prison Blues.
The idea of banning songs is utterly ridiculous and to use an oft misused term, is nothing but virtue signalling in it purest form.

Hendrix was banned but that was because he didn't do what he was told on the Lulu show.

The most farcical BBC ban I recall was Lola by the Kinks. It was banned because it had the words 'coca-cola' in it so to get BBC air play it was changed to cherry cola. The fact that the song was about cross dressing or transvestites seems to have been missed. Actually it tells a story I know other people have had.
