Chelsea v Fulham
The £107m man plays as you'd expect, and Chelsea need him to make an immediate impact if they ate to have any hopes of making the Champions League next season.
Mitrovic returns for Fulham to boost them.

By spreading the time for repayments apoarently
Re: Chelsea v Fulham
They haven't got away with anything yet, time will tell whether it's been financially savvy, they could easily end up with several 'Ozil' type situations on their hands, big flops, on big wages on long contracts.

Queen's Park-Ayr on BBC Scotland a battle of the Championship's top 2.
Owen Coyle facing one of Burnley's partner clubs in a vital promotion clash.
Queen's Park having been thrown out of the Scottish Cup today for fielding an ineligible player in their 4th round win at Inverness.

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
Spread payments out over longer contract durations
Selling home grown players for pure profit etc.
It's easy enough to understand

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
Future buys will also be dependent on selling someone for a profit. Selling players on long contracts, who are on big money, could also prove an issue. They aren't likely to accept a pay cut, and freeing a spot in the squad is essential to buying a replacement.
It's too early to say whether this strategy will work. As pointed out elsewhere, it's fine in America, where relegation doesn't exist, but here it only works for a select few.
Chelsea aren't likely to be relegated, but a Champions League spot is a must, otherwise they could fall foul of FFP anyway. At least 3 of the top 7 (Newcastle now added), are going to miss out.

Sorry Sid, obviously not as intelligent as yourself .GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 8:02 pmSpread payments out over longer contract durations

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
I know, I won't hold that against you though.
However, it's been explained by the likes of Keiran Maguire on various radio shows and on social media, because it's quite a hot topic and he does explain it very well.
Re: Chelsea v Fulham
And it's still a pittance compared to the money available to City and Newcastle. And with Utd in the mix to be taken over, they'll be lucky to be 4th best.
Re: Chelsea v Fulham
It really is incredible the amount that Chelsea have spent. For me, this sort of example is a big problem for the game as a whole in the long run, because inevitably the gap between these clubs and the rest is slowly ruining the game IMO. Increasingly this problem can also now be seen when comparing the Prem with the rest of the European leagues with the fear being how can anyone compete with these transfer fees and wages?
I think in the end the game will have to consider transfer budget and wage caps if we want more balanced competitions or risk further calls for European Super Leagues that exclude everyone else.

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
I suppose they can't do what Man City, and now Newcastle will be able to do. Just have some rich Arab to agree to an extortionate amount for a sponsorship deal of a company you've never heard of.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 8:42 pmI know, I won't hold that against you though.

When you see the global revenues of Man City, they are eye watering, yet everyone knows their global reach is very small compared to that of Liverpool and Man U.

For all their spending Chelsea haven't found a way through in that 1st half Fulham making life difficult for the home side.

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
I bet the monthly wage bill at Chelsea must be quite staggering.
Re: Chelsea v Fulham
Yes, but that was always likely to happen with Chelsea throwing so many new players together in such a short space of time. Let’s see what the outcome of this fixture will be 1-year from now!

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
32 players Chelsea have used in the PL alone this season, how on earth are they meant to build any understanding with all those changes.
Re: Chelsea v Fulham
They only have 17 games left and need to catch 9 points. That is doable, but they'd need to perform like arsenal and City have in the first half of the season. Evens that they are in the bottom half come tomorrow.

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
In regards to Newcastle, one reason they can spend so much at present is due to Mike Ashley and how prudently he ran the club when it came to finances.Spijed wrote: ↑Fri Feb 03, 2023 8:55 pmI suppose they can't do what Man City, and now Newcastle will be able to do. This gave the new owners about £600 million of leeway when it came to FFP, but it's something the geordies don't like to hear about
City inflated their revenue by being sponsored by their owners other companies.

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
Chelsea haven't solved their striker problem
Over the last few years they have struggled even getting in cast offs from Arsenal to no avail

Re: Chelsea v Fulham
Obviously hope they go down which won't happen. God knows who's behind all the signings. The panic-buying strategy is contrary to Potter's policy at Brighton. He seems too decent a bloke to be at a sh****ty club like that. The man did a fine job on the South coast but I just don't see his philosophy working there. He won't be given time. Lampard is given flak by everybody but his early spell there when he started building a young team - he had no choice due to an embargo, I know - was successful. Then the powers-to-be started buying big names and it didn't work.
