It's truly impressive

Post by Vegas Claret » Sat Feb 04, 2023 2:47 pm

New guy comes in, looks like he's been there all season. VK and his coaches are pretty incredible, another great win. Season highlights video is going to be something else this time !

Seamless whoever plays, incredible what Kompany and all the staff have masterminded in such a short period of time at the helm.

I thought today might be the day we spilled points, tricky away game at a Norwich side going well in recent weeks, plus we had key personnel unavailable for a variety of reasons.

Yet we swept them aside with ease, that was a performance of champions.

2 league losses season to date. Have we ever bettered that at this point?

Not many sides could do without their:

* First choice GK
* First choice CB
* Captain & arguably best midfielder
* Most explosive winger
* First choice striking option

…and go in and dominate a game like that.

A good pointer to the optimism we can have for next season with a performance like that with our notable absentees.

The Norwich line up had some arguably Premier League quality with Krul, Aarons, Mungo, Pukki, Sargent, Hernandez etc and they were ruthlessly disposed of.

Only 3 goals conceded in the last 9 matches since that weird anomaly at Bramall Lane.

I’m convinced that 2nd half at Sheffield was a massive learning curve for us, didn’t feel like it at the time but our exposed weaknesses seem to have been corrected since and we’ve definitely leaned from it

And the other impressive 3, is that there are now only three teams in the division who are closer to us than they are to Wigan at the bottom. :shock:

We’ve made a lot of errors this season.

However we don’t appear to have ever made the same error in a second game. Our ability to learn and improve is high up on the list of remarkable things.

Standard wise we are effectively a PL team the way we are coasting through this league & demolishing most team not just in results performances to, what's remarkable to me is how VK has done that he's cobbled together a PL standard team for relative coppers in today's football.

We have spent way more than any other Championship team - around £40 million or so whilst most other teams are struggling to just hold on to their better players and hoping to sign someone on loan who can make that slight difference which could elevate them to the play-off lottery or maybe even an automatic promotion spot

On the flip, and adding balance to that argument, no team has had their squad depleted in the manner we did in the summer, nor did they raise the capital we did which allowed us to reinvest

Did anyone else notice just how more quickly we moved the ball around at the back and through the middle than we’ve recently in some games at home in the first half. Let’s hope the penny has dropped!

I meant in comparison toe to toe with PL sides because in my mind that's what we are even if it's not mathematically confirmed yet, next season we will find out the colour of the metal to coin a Neil Warnock phrase I think.

Congratulations on a fabulous season, so far. Vinnie is an absolute leader of men and my all-time favourite City player. Somebody said that it seems not to matter who comes in, that they just seem to know what to do. To do that in such a short space of time is truly impressive but it comes from the philosophy of play and clarity of vision. He will express what he wants clearly, and his coaching team will do the same. When the style and vision is so clear, it's easier to know exactly how to play when you get your chance. We see it at City, because the style is the same throughout the club, from U10 to first team, and everyone knows exactly what Pep expects, as they will with Vinnie. It is a joy to follow your progress this season - just great, possession based football with a clear purpose. Good luck for the remaining games.

I truly am lost for words now. I’ve been pretty confident all season but today i thought we were dropping points. One of the better squads in the league, stuck four in the last couple of games, new manager bounce, players out etc etc. but no - we just played them off the park. There always seems to be another gear with us. Truly special season.

I was worried earlier on today with the rumours about players.
When the team was announced I was more confident. Despite the players missing it was still strong.
After about five minutes I was confident of winning such was the start.
We were miles better than the opposition again.

Enjoy this season. It’s special.

I'm fed up hearing that we've spent lots, yes we have invested however that's only due to managing to get plenty of high earners off the books, and generating decent funds for our rebuild.

Compare us to both Norwich and Watford also relegated last season, both fighting purely to get into the PO spots while we coast to promotion and more than likely the title.

If he thinks we've spent a lot he needs to get his calculator out & do his sums on what individual teams in the PL have spent during that same time span because what you've got in front of you is a PL side he's assembled, it'll be able to hold its own with the likes of Southampton & Bournemouth & a few others, I don't understand the logic of comparing with something inferior we have spent more than other championship teams but for all intent & purposes the end result isn't a championship team as the performances, results & league table is showing.

Hope you are correct Jakub, difficult to judge until we experience the PL again, however the way we eased past Bournemouth in the cup shows promise that we can compete against the big boys next season.

Even if I'm not right it's not a million miles away he's spent hardly nothing in terms of what the PL sides have spent.

We have brought more in sales than we have spent.
Put that together with a massive reduction in the wage bill and we are spending less than the likes of Watford, Sheff United, Norwich, and maybe a couple of others too.

There’s different ways of trying to get promoted and I cannot think of a better and more prudent way of doing it than we have this season.

Our net spend was something like MINUS £26 million or thereabouts wasn't it? It makes Rovers fans look thicker than they already are and anybody else when they say we have bought the league.

Quite true however it won't stop opposition fans moaning about how we've bought the league, arguably our best signings have been Benson & Zaroury who cost about £6-7m combined which even in Championship terms isn't big money.

What VK has done is use his contacts in the Belgian leagues and the loan market to great effect.

Does it really matter if we have? In the grand scheme of things with the wheeling & dealing the money was there to be spent by fair means we haven't robbed a bank & used that money for recruitment.

They can moan all they like. If they think we've bought the league they don't know a thing about football and so should be ignored anyway.

Some of these teams have let players walk out of the door for nothing as they wouldn't sell. Rovers alone have let about £30m walk out. Surely they would have been better off selling them and finding cheaper gems like we have. Coventry will be the next lot moaning because the longer they keep hold of Gyorkes the less they will get for him.

It would be interesting to see what the wage bills are of us , Watford and Norwich. With our high earners mostly out the door, I can't imagine it will be anywhere near theirs. Perhaps Norwich, as they've always worked to a budget, but Watford must be a lot more.
