The Pink Un, Norwich.

Post by BigGaz » Sat Feb 04, 2023 11:39 pm

Because I’m elbow deep in my favoured cherry pepsi and Polish cherry vodka concoction, and because it’s been a fantastic day for a Claret of the Pro-Dyche fraternity, I just wanted to show a little bit of love.

I like to unwind after a game by reading an oppositions forum, as many of us do, and I have to say for once that reading through their match thread isn’t an absolute **** show and it’s worth you having a read through if you’ve the time.

Their fans seem pretty reasonable, complimentary about us, level headed, and some good debate on show in the last few pages of their match thread as regards our penalty. Seemingly a large % of them can separate their partisanship to the issue at hand and that’s not something you can often say.

So if there’s any like-minded sad barstewards amongst our counterparts that are lurking on our great forum, thanks very much and power to you

(Fwiw I think under todays rules it is a penalty, but is absolute nonsense and stupidity that it is defined as such)

Na Zdrowie!

They didn’t seem reasonable during the game.
Battering their own players within the first ten minutes.

Odd bunch.

Coventry fans don’t seem to happy with us. But then their lack of knowledge & lack of history is outstanding.

Erm ... Have they forgotten Sunderland when they call themselves the Championship's best supported club? And does that claim even have a factual base at all?

As well as Sunderland, there's Norwich, Blades, Stoke, Boro, Bristol City, West Brom & us with higher average attendances.

This unrequited Coventry rivalry is great, like Boro or Derby a few years ago. For older readers, Plymouth was probably my favourite.

Back to the OP, I’ve always found Norwich and it’s fans very pleasant, my preferred choice for the play offs although they’re a little off the pace now.

Sorry what “penalty” are we talking about?

The only possible instance I can recall is the Barnes “handball” in the second half that deflected up of his block onto his arm

Warner talked a fair bit about “the penalty” in his post match interview.

They were 3-0 at the point of the incident, but he was talking like it was 1-0 and it would have brought them right back in the game.

I agree with the last sentence of the coventry statement though (assuming that it was punctuated correctly), i. e. the not beginning "SKY"

As well as having permanent sucking up to Man u and Liverpool, we have to listen to the sickening favouritism of Salford, anyone managed by Rooney, anyone unfortunate enough to be managed by "Frank" or "Stephen", Hollywood Wrexham, and it seems that we and Newcastle have, probably for one season joined the list.

The only saving grace for them is that the BBC can be just as bad, possibly worse when it involves the lowest ranked teams in the fa cup - even when their football is awful to watch (Lincoln, Solihull, the aptly named Borehamwood.....)

Norwich fans are not much different to other clubs. Most are level headed but there are still some who are incredibly deluded. I live in Norwich and met some of my Canary mates after the game and whilst they were disappointed they accepted that we were the better side. Then I had a message from another who informed me that Norwich were rubbish and we were not even a good side. Bizarre really.

Coventry with a population of circa. 345,000 people. Have a limited following of some challenged people, obsessed with a team that they are nowhere near as good as, have been beaten twice by this season, and who literally couldn't care less about them. Strange.

Seems a new stick to beat us with but the parachute payments is nonsense! They had theirs years ago when they were relegated from the PL and messed it up, dont blame us for putting it to good use, ditto any other Club thats been in the PL

"Try taking a club from the brink of collapse to a championship player, move ground 2 or 3 times and still produce great football and the best supported club in the championship "

Doesn't even make sense. Deluded idiots. Oh and they must not have heard of the Orient game...you know, when we took the club from the brink of collapse and out of the whole league and then went all the way to spend years in the PL and even Europe...

There must be something in the water in Coventry

Met my West Brom supporting mate the other week and explained the Coventry thing, he said they have always been desperate for a rivalry as non of Midland clubs give a toss about them.

Read the tactical analysis: very good. Went in a different forum though but the general feel was the same. No effing and blinding. No criticism of us,in fact quite complementary. Level headed and good at analysing their own teams failings without resorting to calling for the managers head. All in all very decent bunch.

Feels great to be favoured by the media, referred to as Vincent Kompany's Burnley and drooled over by everyone who watches us play (including opposition jealous fans). Sure feels good for opposition fans to hold their hands up after defeat and not make excuses.

I also think the posters on the Norwich forum need reminding, we were without 5 key players, 5 almost guaranteed starters.

Our first choice GK - Muric
First choice CB - Harwood Bellis
Most creative productive winger - Benson
First choice striker - Rodriguez
and the glue in midfield that holds it together - Cork.

That's half of the 11 missing and we still went away to Norwich and strolled to a 3-0 win whilst not even near our fluent best.

This was surely always part of ALKs game plan. How else could we become everybody's favourite second team? I couldn't help thinking at the time that such an ambition didn't really fit with Dyche's style of football but the way we play now is bang on for increasing our popularity amongst neutrals and the media as a whole.

The thing is the market they were hoping to do that with is now utterly obsessed with Wrexham and are likely to be so for a fair few years yet given the declaration of wanting to get to the PL

Is it really a market anyway ? I always thought the strap line was “ The nation’s favourite underdog” and was doomed to failure. Even given an attractive style of football does anyone care enough of a toss about a “second team” to want to spend any money on following them/merch ? I seriously doubt it.

The commercial growth at Wrexham is going to be an interesting watch - there are already tales of every significant growth in local tourism particularly from North America

I Just saw this myself today and its a bloody good assessment, without actually saying how the hell teams can beat it, i think we saw something earlier this year on the message board regarding inverted full backs josh cullens role etc from VK at anderlecht. Shows the level of coaching and organisation that vinny has introduced and the team have bought into.

I am sure that the market is big enough for two clubs. Do you really have to have a downer on anything ALK related. Every thread where they are mentioned you forecast doom on the horizon in a roundabout way, as if waiting to pounce in a few years with a told you so. Its just reality Cleveleys

How on earth can you compete with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney?

You can't, and absolutely fair play to them for what they are doing with Wrexham FC and the surrounding area

Its a lot better than just getting bought by a bunch of reactionary oil tycoons with "interesting" ideas on socially progressive stuff

Na Zdrowie!
Sto lat. Wisniuwka was it.
I have Polish connections, was with a family from Poland earlier this season, they've adopted 2 teams who they come and watch two or three times each during a season, Burnley and Man U. They have a thriving business over there.
