How did our loanees and ex players do yesterday?

Post by Guller Bull » Sun Feb 05, 2023 8:42 am

I think McNally had another good game yesterday from what I hear.

Egan Riley seems to have had a belting debut according to The Scotsman”

CJ Egan-Riley’s impressive showing

Hibs signed CJ Egan-Riley on loan from Burnley earlier this week and the 20-year-old was handed his first start at right-back. A former Manchester City youngster, he left the Etihad Stadium in search of regular football but such is the fine form of Vincent Kompany’s Clarets at the summit of the Skybet Championship, he has been kept out of the team. This looks to be to Hibs’ benefit. It is easy to get carried away with new signings on first viewing as they are not as familiar on the eye, but Egan-Riley did not put a foot wrong in Paisley. Positionally aware, dependable defending and able to get up and down the wing, he also caught the attention of the Hibs fans, who have already penned a song for him. Pep Guardiola spoke warmly of Egan-Riley went he left the Citizens and his first impressions up here are good. He will get tougher assignments than this victory over the Buddies, but he looks an important signing already as Hibs look for stability in the second half of the season.”

Mee scores, Tarks scores with a McNeil assist.

Any others of note?

Dodgson played the whole game for Rochdale, but they lost.
Mellon came on for Morecambe, but they were hammered and he didn't score.

Scored a couple for them now, a Barnsley mate very impressed. Hibs fans loving Egan Riley already.

Hendricks was a screamer. A volley direct from a corner.

I thought Tarky scoring from a Dwight assist , managed by Dyche would have had its own thread ? Maybe it does !

Lowton at fault for QPR's goal yesterday. Bizarrely Hudds seem to be playing him at left back?

Still makes me laugh how some people said Ben Mee wouldn't cut it without Dyche's protection or isn't good enough on the ball. Now he's on 3 goals for the season and pocketed Haaland against City.
He's clearly a top quality player and you don't play leftback for multiple years without being decent on the ball.

A Bradford supporting friend hadn’t been too impressed so far.I thought he’d be too good for that league.

I looked on FotMob this morning to see how Huddersfield had got one and thought exactly the same when I looked at the lineup.

I was out on Thursday with a couple of Bradford season ticket holders and they had nowt to criticise him for but just that he didn't seem to offer much going forward.

Its not to dissimilar to what he did for us as I think a lot of praise for his appearances at start of the season was more around him coming into the first team and not looking out of place but at the same time I can't remember him doing much more than just the basics.

I guess mine and most peoples expectations was if he can hold his own in the Championship then he should be able to shine a couple of divisions down but early showings are that he's just a bit ordinary. Hopefully as the season progresses he'll find is feet a bit and will finish the loan period a better and more experienced player than what he started it

I spoke to a friend at university who is a bradford fan it seems they are playing him as a 10 and their manager plays a system with no width which we agreed was part of the problem, the vast majority of the burnley fanbase know of Costelloe and know how exciting he is if used properly I personally have no doubt hell bag at league 2 level

Must admit I didn't see anything in Costelloe to suggest he'll even make it at lower league level.

Yes.

He "shinned" it slightly but that's the same with the one he got for us at Stamford Bridge. Great goal(s)!

Hendricks goal was very similar to the one he scored against Everton on the Turf, definitely shinned it though!

I had to wiki McCann to confirm it was the same one. You are correct. I’ve seen him over here for Shamrock Rovers, playing well, and surprised he’s gone back to English football at 35.

Fantasy Premier League is a good barometer for player performance. Ben is very high up on the defender ratings and Brentford not conceding many.Having a great season
