Burnley Records

Post by Claretforever » Sun Feb 05, 2023 1:55 pm

It seems if we beat PNE next week we could match a couple of historical records according to a post on Facebook?

It would be amazing if Vinnie’s boys can equal/beat these if true.

If we had a squad photo taken today that required two players to lounge around like Venus and for one to be crossed legged, who would you pick?

The 2 players led down, were used to that position, as they were our defence against free kicks, at the edge of the box.

Hope I am not repeating something posted earlier on 'records' but if Burnley win their next Championship match they will equal the most consecutive wins since the Championship was first re-branded with that name.

I don’t know about the Championship record but I had the Burnley record of 10 in 1912/13 which I used in the report.

We scored 37 goals in those ten games too with Bert Freeman getting 14 of them.

We've got 13 points more after 29 games than we had in the last promotion season of 2016.

That's a wall designed to counter a free kick by Twine.

1991/92 - 56 points
1993/94 - 50 points
1999/00 - 54 points

Are you telling me that this Burnley team is even better than Jimmy Mullen's Claret and Blue Army of '92?

I never thought to see the day.

I always remember the 8 consecutive wins during the 1968/69 season when Harry Potts decided to include some of the brilliant youth side into the first team. The team included Dave Thomas, Steve Kindon , and Martin Dobson plus the brilliant Ralph Coates. Amongst the wins were against West Ham and the 5-1 thrashing of Leeds United.

The team was,

Harry Thompson
Fred Smith
Les Latcham
Martin Dobson
Colin Waldron
Colin Blant
Dave Thomas
John Murray
Frank Casper
Ralph Coates
Steve Kindon

Happy memories

Ralph didn’t play in the first of this games but came back in for the second of them. I think, other than that, we were unchanged. Six of the eight were league games with two in the League Cup.

That Mullen season and the first Dyche promotion stood at 56 which is a hell of a lot of points. To be nine higher is incredible.

In the 1973 promotion season after 29 games we would've had 57 points with the wins converted to three points instead of two.

The George Chandler song is ace. Can't believe it's not be used by the club and fans. Think it was written for a TV advert long before BBS taken over and ended up as part of Santander ( I think).

It’s ‘The Best Dreams Begin With B’ and was definitely for the Burnley Building Society advert. The BBS merged with the Provincial Building Society in 1984 to become the National & Provincial. It was then the Abbey National before Santander.

As usual CT quite right. Sammy Todd played in the first game, an unforgettable Tuesday night vs West Ham. This followed the previous Saturdays dreadful 4-0 stuffing by Liverpool. When we saw the team I remember fearing the worst but Burnley were uttertly brilliant that night, Steve Kindon ran Billy Bonds ragged. I often wondered if Skippy introduced himself aftrr the game, Bonds never saw much of him other than his heels during it.

One record never done before and repeated I would imagine is that a full back scoring three headed goals in a season, albeit the third as a wing back.

What's the Championship record for most wins in a row? I know we've just equalled a couple of sides on 10.

Can’t find championship, but for “second tier” it’s Man Utd with 14 in 1904-05

I believe it’s Readings 106pt season 05-06 season?

They also got 10 wins.

We could better it, IF we can get a positive result against against Watford.

Personally I dont want us to get 11 in a row;

It doesnt sound as good as ‘wooooah, Burnley’s won ten in a row!’

We need to average 2.5 goals a game in the remaining 16 games to reach 100 goals

If yesterday was all about equalling records, Tuesday will be very special in attempting to create new ones.

I make it, potentially, four new records that are at stake. I wonder if there's ever been a game in our long and illustrious history, in terms of creating numerous records, where so much depends on the outcome of one match.

Quite a burden on the young shoulders of our lads, let's hope they are more than up to the task. Sure they wiil be.

The Championship record is 10 wins. That’s purely a branding thing though.

The second tier record is actually 14 consecutive wins, held jointly by Manchester United (1904-05), Bristol City (1905-06) and Preston (1950-51).

Bristol City’s 14th win was actually against Burnley.

That’s right, here’s the list of longest winning runs in the second tier, which after yesterday needs amending to add us in a second time.

According to Twitter, it's the first time we have won 10 at home on the bounce, in the league, as well. No doubt Tony will know if that is right.

Big night for the Club tomorrow, as if three more points wasn't important enough.....So much at stake.

1. 10 consecutive league wins in 1912/13, just 110 years ago.......A win tomorrow takes us to eleven.

2. 27 consecutive league scoring games over 1925/26 (final 13 games) and 1926/27 (first 14 games), just 96 years ago......A goal tomorrow takes us to 28.

3. Don't buy into this "Second tier" argument, the Championship is exactly that, as was the Second Division before it..........So, 10 straight wins for Villa and Reading since the Championship was rebranded in 2004.......A win tomorrow takes us to eleven.

4. Against Preston we replicated Reading's record of losing just two of their first 30 games in 2005/06, avoiding defeat tomorrow takes us to 31.

No pressure then, Come on you Clarets.

It'd be so Burnley like to make a 0-0 draw tomorrow and put the kybosh on all those records.

There's no way Kompany isn't chasing down Reading's record though.

Let's not forget it's the 3 points that are all important, if the records come along with those points, all well and good.

As long as the records don't become a distraction.

Absolutely, that's why I emphasised the point in the opening sentence.

That said, it's more than possible these records could last for another 100 years.

Tomorrow really is that important to the history of our Great club.

Is tonight one special night, or what ?

So many records determined on one outcome.

Come on you Clarets.
