Post by Steve1956 » Tue Mar 07, 2023 10:10 am

What a truly remarkable man he his 96 years of age and still making fascinating documentaries on wildlife..really looking forward to the home grown series which starts on Sunday.
Quality TV,I would imagine Scotland is going to get a lot of coverage.

If its the BBC he's lucky to still be there at he's age. And if it is BBC will we be treated to endless lessons on Climate Change? Probably. Hope we can just enjoy the beauty without being preached at.

Coast was a good programme very good some time ago.

It will be a sad day when he is no longer making programmes. He’s still got a hell of a lot to offer.

Thanks Steve1956 for alerting me to this series, it’s now set to record.

I’m sure it will be outstanding with David Attenborough involved with it.

I thought I hadn't seen him on telly for a bit and feared the worst. Then I saw him chatting to Chris Packham the other day, as sprightly, passionate and informative as ever. Genuinely heartwarming.

I started watching that Serengeti series on BBC recently and gave up on it as it sounded wrong with someone else narrating it, good to see he has something new coming up

Interesting caption for the image. Never seen this before. How is it an epitome of materiality? Not challenging it, I just literally don't understand it.

As for Attenborough, wildlife itself will mourn when he eventually offers himself to the circle of life

I would expect (just guesswork, not any inside info) that there will be quite a bit of climate stuff in this

Course, you might not like it, but things like chalk rivers have almost disappeared, and its getting warmer, so that different species can thrive in different areas

Will there be something rewilding nature on it as well?

That is fascinating btw and I hope there is

Trailers look great, and it's incredible that this is Attenborough's first ever series filmed entirely in the UK.

The "Rewilding" bit being cut is border line criminal to be honest

I've actually been flooded out, and have seen the effects that very simple and very cost effective solutions can make to flooding, and getting those out into the mainstream benefits everyone

I can see this one being reversed very quickly

Apologies for using your comment as an analogy, claretonthecoast, and i'm in no way suggesting this is your attitude. But something I do expect to see from people on the right in the press with regards to this is for them to criticise the "decision makers" for the decision. Whereas when cancel culture is engaged in to appease the left it's more likely the "woke mob" who are the target of criticism, and less so the decision makers. They still get some, but it's always the "woke mob" who get the most of the ire.

I expect the right-wing press, should they even bother covering it, will go with attacking the BBC instead of the anti-science policy makers (lobbyists) they work for.

Another reason to ditch the BBC? Lose the need to be neutral and let people speak. People can always turn over if they don't like it.

That's excellent, you should try sticking with it. On series 3 I think.

Also other African / Lion documentaries on Sky Nature. There was also one narrated by Tom Hardy which I thought was brilliant.

In a way it would be wrong not to, if they are referencing changes in our wildlife.

100%

Allowing natural change to river valleys, marsh lands etc etc is both cheaper and works better

Course, we live in a country that builds houses on flood plains.....

Build on flood plains (it's cheap) and canalise the rivers so the water runs away quicker.

Wildlife? What's that?

However he does intend to continue doing narrations 👍

One of the best things this show could do is stop the fallacy that dredging rivers stops or makes flooding better

It makes it much worse

The more natural obstacles in it the better, slows the flood waters right down and massively increases the wildlife that live there

The BBC have responded directly to this article:
BBC wrote:” This is totally inaccurate, there is no ‘6th episode’. Wild Isles is – and always was – a 5 part series. We acquired a separate film for iPlayer from the RSPB, WWF and Silverback Films about people working to preserve and restore the biodiversity of the British Isles.”

That’s the BBC’s statement.

We can indulge in hyperbole and silly partisanship but this is non story IMO.

Lovely first episode
To quote Stan "only a blind man ........."
The loss of insect life here and elsewhere from global warming or pesticides or whatever else is one of the facts that must have seious implications for future and not so future generations.
I thought the section of the thermogenic plant, Lord and Ladies that heats up to 20c to attract flies was amazing
