Bruno great header 3-1
I just get the sense the United lads don’t like Weghorst and he’s trying desperately to be their mate

Doing a job for what they need. Unless he starts scoring I doubt they sign him though. Hopefully someone in Germany will take him back cos despite him actually suiting our striker role I don’t think he suits our new team.

Re: weghorst
Weghorst did well there.
I think United will sign him. He’s starting a lot of games. ETH likes him. Even if they get a new first choice he’ll want cover and Weghorst will be cheap. But we shouldn’t get greedy with him.

Re: weghorst
I remember him being a Burnley fan favorite this time 12 months ago, there was even a song about us staying in the premier league due to him.
Amazing how quickly he turned to a player that most fans on here joke about.
I suspect that a condition of him signing for us would allow him to leave if upon relegation due to his World Cup prospects. Everything was agreed, he didn’t have to demand it.
Strange how much dislike there is for him.

Re: weghorst
Amazing commentary from Savage:
Weghorst has a shot and only superb defending stops him scoring "He's got to do better there"
Antony clean through keeper saves when any half decent striker scores "it's a great save"
One cost 80 million the other is on loan from Burnley.

Haha ok,
How anyone on this planet can say Weghorst is a “quality footballer” is beyond me. He’s a good grafter but lacks key attributes to be a quality footballer. He can’t score and is too slow to be a striker in English football. That’s why ETH has dropped him deep.

Nobody plays in the PL and for Holland without being a quality footballer. Weghorst is one of the first names on the team sheet in the third best team in the country at present.
He may not have the speed of a young Michael Owen, the finesse of a cultured midfielder, or the change of direction of a tricky winger but the attributes he does have still equate to a quality player.
How else do you think he's playing for arguably the biggest club in the world?

Re: weghorst
Had a look on red cafe last night and there was one post that I thought summed it up, paraphrased as “we’re a lot better team/winning more games with Weghorst in the side than Ronaldo”.
I don’t want him back and don’t think he’d suit us now, but I can appreciate his contribution to United. He made some great runs to pull defenders out of shape/get in front of them. If his team mates trusted him he might’ve scored a lot more.
The majority United fans want him gone though, he’s almost becoming another symbol of their fall from grace:
https://www.redcafe.net/threads/wout-we ... 14/page-78
I’d forgotten what a bunch of self-entitled knobs United fans were! Makes me appreciate the UTC crew

Re: weghorst
I guess the question is as a forward whether he's still worth playing with those stats you mention above, taking into account he won't score many. He seems to be more of an attacking midfielder.

I said right at the beginning that WW will spell the end for Martial. Now he’s been injured so it might not quite be the death knell I thought, but we’re seeing how good he really is for a fluid United system.

Re: weghorst
I had the pleasure of some free booze and prawn sandwiches at the Manyoo Betis game last night.
The overrising memory of Wout's performance was the distinct lack of getting into danger areas or making the correct runs to get himself in a position to score. Aside his goal (which would have been harder to miss), he really didn't contribute much to the game apart from missing a sitter and being offside a few times (ah, memories...).
The overriding thought from those sat around me is that against better opposition he usually reduces their goal threat. This being masked last night by two solo efforts and Bruno's unmarked header from a corner. Certainly the 'he makes runs to distract defenders' line has gone very quiet since his initial performances.
In the main, they're happy that he puts in a shift but would still prefer hit and miss Martial once he returns to fitness.

Re: weghorst
look at Liverpool 2018-2021. Firmino never got 10 league goals in any of the 3 seasons. But he was a huge part of why Salah and Mane scored over 100 goals between them over that period
Re: weghorst
He offers pretty much what we saw with us. Nice lay offs and runs off the ball along with work rate. He can’t head though and is too slow to be prolific at PL level. He seems to fit their system at present but I’m sure they could benefit from a better player in there. I hope we can flog him because I’m not sure he would offer us that much.I’ve not seen any thing surprising from him at Man Utd.

He’s only playing because of injuries.
There are literally pundits saying he is the worst striker they have had. Their fan base have mocked him since his first game. He will feature until martial is fit then he will be dropped and never play for them again.

Re: weghorst
Maybe he is right now - but even that’s debatable with Barnes’ performances in last few months.
Wout has age on his side and probably more mobile (but not hard to look more mobile than Ronaldo and Martial did last season).
I’d be very surprised based on what we have seen so far from Weghorst that he go on to score as many goals as Barnes did in the PL. And even in a United team with world class players round him it doesn’t like he’s going to score as many as Barnes did before his injury in the PL.
Whether Weghorst would be better for us in our current team than Barnes I’m not sure - probably. But I hope we will get better than both next season as IMHO Weghorst is not good enough and Barnes is too old for the top league now (hope I’m wrong on Barnes)

“I love Wout Weghorst. There was all this debate with Ronaldo last season that they couldn’t press. Weghorst is very good in transition for Manchester United and defending set pieces. He’s doing a vital job for a team with attacking talent.”
By fan base, perhaps you are doing a twitter search and finding their internet fans from Namibia and Indonesia who’ve never watched a game in person ever.
Ones that I have seen like this one, who is a performance analyst, provides a good and fair analysis:
https://twitter.com/jackfawcett1704/sta ... 59Piho1d6w
As for injuries, Martial has been fit and Weghorst started. Sancho could start but doesn’t. Anthony hasn’t started every game. Rashford starts up top with Weghorst in the 10.
Looks like you are talking nonsense, again.
