Have to agree with him about Levy, not the owner but it’s his fiefdom. Time he went.

I don’t think that was strategic from Conte, he just lost it - Italian and all that. Nevertheless it was very much a decisive moment…. Back me or sack me

He just wants to be sacked, get the payoff, have a few months away in Barbados and get a nice job in Serie A. He’s absolutely right about Levy though, who is de facto owner (I know it’s the Tavistock guy but he’s on a yacht somewhere) - he has been ludicrously positioned in the past as some kind of hard nosed operator, but he’s made some shocking decisions. Payoffs alone must be eye-watering.

Contrast how Kompany carefully picks his words, to Conte's attitude: In the post-match interview today Kompany was asked about the reception he got from City fans (which was a fair question, he's a bona-fide legend there) and in his answer he quickly made sure to first direct the question onto Burnley, saying words to the effect, "firstly, I'm proud to come here with Burnley", before going on to talk about the nice reception he got (very well deserved, too). Conte, on the other hand, has spent the last six months talking of his love for Italy, saying he still loves Italy in his heart etc, making remarks about the state of Spurs, culminating in him going nuclear today and essentially calling Spurs irredeemably, eternally shite...which is not exactly untrue, let's be honest, but he's literally the manager and in a position to do something about that. He already knows he's lost the dressing room, he knows Poch will be back in a fortnight, and he's going down Tony Montana style in an attempt to preserve some reputation of being a good manager. He's always been a loose cannon, so he can navigate that accusation, but he probably couldn't bear to be thought of as being a second-tier manager (which is what he's looked like at Spurs); thus, it's everyone else's fault, not his. His reaction is about preserving the 'idea' of Conte, not getting a reaction from the players.

He's Italian. It's very normal for them to act this way. They do not hide their emotions well.

It's not owt to do with nationality. Look at Neil Warnock vs Ancelotti, Capello vs Klopp, Ranieri vs Simione. Loads of calm Italians, loads of emotional non-Italians.

Folk eventually see through all the performative arm flapping, too. Means nothing if your tactics are negative.

I don't get the Levy criticism, Spurs are the 5th highest spenders in the last 10 years, and play in a shiny new stadium.
The problem is recruitment, both of players and managers. Does that fall at Levys door, possibly, but they usually hire someone to do that for them.
Clearly Conte wants out, and as the results aren't doing the trick he's decided having a rant is his next best option.

Obviously Conte thought that winning the FA Cup wasn’t “playing for something important” which is presumably why Tottenham’s captain and best player was left out against Sheffield United. Tottenham should be appearing in an FA Cup Semi Final but Conte blew it.

Spurs are psychologically serial losers. City were until they got the FA Cup under their belts (aided by the money albeit). Roy Keane had it right when they played United a few weeks ago. He said something along the lines of “they have been doing it for years, they come here get giddy they may go 1 nil up but ultimately get beat and win nothing”

They need recent experience of winning a trophy to get the ball rolling for them, as it appears that psychologically they don’t truely believe that they can win anything because it’s spurs.

City are a bit like this in Europe, but it’s inevitable they will win it at some point, as soon as they get that first one then more will follow.

Conte's got it sorted, sort of admirable in a way. Job to job to job with massive salaries, massive pay offs, living in luxury in the best cities in the world. Absolutely fair play. And yes this is "mutual consent" but not for one second is Conte getting out of there without some of his contract paid up.

Excellent summary of Conte by Spiral above. If you want an example of what a difference good management can make look no further than Carrick at Middlesbrough. With the same group of players he’s taken them from the bottom three to the top three in half a season.

Our own manager has done very well also but unlike Carrick he was able to bring in his own players and blend them in a similar amount of time into a winning combination.

Two different situations, but similar in terms of achievement.

That doesn’t sound far off he’s effectively engineered his own exit also ensuring he doesn’t leave with nothing, a clever bloke to be fair.

Looking back, and with the benefit of hindsight, Conte’s appointment was a bit of an odd one.

Did nothing with Juve in the CL, granted they won Serie A year on year, but they were easily the best team at the time.

Won the title with Chelsea but that was without any European distraction and the congestion/fatigue that brings.

Spent mega bucks at Inter and often clashed with the board over players, demanding more all the time.

Flattered to deceive at Spurs, and has had a few meltdowns in his time, one of them being against us. Has given the impression for a while now that he doesn’t want to be there.

Spurs are an odd club in that they are stuck in limbo. Don’t really have enough financial muscle to challenge at the top consistently, and are left battling it out for 4-6.

They really should have won a cup or two in the last 20 years though, and chucking the FA Cup away this year against Sheff Utd was baffling.

It's easy walking into the promotion favourites in the Championship and get them going up the table compared to getting Spurs to compete with Man City. Boro were most people's pre season pick for automatic promotion for a reason, they clearly have a very capable group of players, all it takes sometimes in football is a managerial change, sometimes it's anyone else apart from the current guy.

Soon as Bruce leaves WBA they start winning, soon as Wilder leaves Boro they start winning, I don't think that was surprising to anyone. Not to **** on Carrick but it was an easy job really, they couldn't get much worse results wise.

Conte has won league titles over many years, that's good management, not having a new manager bounce for a few months in the Championship lol.

It's all well and good Levy spending money but until he allows the manager to choose the players, it's a complete waste of resources and they'll never get anywhere imo.

They spent £16m on Djed Spence and Conte had no idea who he was, so why was he brought in, if the guy responsible for picking the team didn't want him?

Everybody should know & realise what levy’s like he hasn’t suddenly took over being in charge of THFC the managers who are appointed have already agreed prior armed with that knowledge it’s not as if they are walking blindfolded into uncharted territory. It’s levy’s way or the highway he rules the roost.

Conte was always on borrowed time after Spurs meekly went out of both the CL & FA Cups to Milan and Sheff Utd.

Spurs are never going to compete for the title, however you'd expect them to at least make an attempt to try and win a cup.

Probably doesn't help Conte that Arsenal are romping away at the top of the Prem, now whether that should have any bearing is debatable, but it does highlight his failings.

In hindsight there was clearly a strained relationship between Conte/Levy and this announcement is hardly a surprise.

Thomas Frank being heavily linked though would he leave Brentford after recently signing a new contract.
