I respect your opinion 100%. When it’s people’s hard earned money being spent on watching games like today, I can totally understand why you don’t want to go. Equally, fair play to those fans who do go to watch 6-0 hammerings, because that’s no fun at all! I guess it’s the hope that kills you, but have games like today become so lopsided that the chance of winning is minuscule?
💯 respect for anyone that could raise the enthusiasm to go and watch such a forgone conclusion of a result.

We don’t really have anything other than a rare flukey win or draw to look forward to with City. Home or away. That’s just a fact.

All on the maybe a one in twenty chance that we might just scrape a scabby win?
I do get where you are coming from, but this is football, more in the modern world. With the money involved the chances become smaller.

I hope fans of all clubs don’t give up on that one in twenty chance.

I’ve seen us win a few one in twenties over the years.

It’s been worth it.

Probably be better next season to forfeit the game and lose 3-0.

Our goal difference will be better off anyway

Until a more level playing field financially is adopted, then I suspect more and more fans of the middling teams will feel the same way.
The Premier League is just a slightly larger version of the SPL. The fans of the also ran teams in that league are voting with their feet too.

Absolutely! However, the chances of winning games like today have seemingly become more like one in one hundred, if that! This can’t be healthy for the game overall IMO, and will inevitably mean hard-working fans won’t want to waste their money going to these games.

It’d be interesting to see what the away attendance was at the Ethihad over our 6 season stay in the Prem under Dyche. I’d bet that it started to dwindle as our trips there showed diminishing returns.

Air Fryer, is that what was dropped on Nagasaki in 1945?

All I need is gas and a frying pan. Crispy on the outside and soft in the middle (just like me).

If you can fry it after doing some bacon, then you're in absolute heaven.

Look at the stats behind City over the last few seasons (Liverpool included apart from this season), it’s actually terrifying how rare it is for a team like ours to beat them.

I said this a few years ago, but it's worth repeating

Most clubs in the PL are there to make up the numbers, they're never going to amount to more than cannon fodder.
Attendances will probably level out and stagnate for a lot of clubs when their fans come to the above realisation.
They're not going to see many, if any, European adventures, or decent cup runs, simply because of the financial stranglehold a number of clubs have on the league and domestic cups.

I remember being 6-0 down to Man City at home in the third division and it was the first (and only) time my dad said, 'come on, we're going' before the final whistle, but then we still stood at the top of the Bob Lord block 4 stairs until the final whistle.

I still don't really understand why that happened. Either we were going, or we weren't, and in the end we did both and neither. I think my dad just wanted to get closer to the touchline so he could flick his woodbine at Stan in a fit of pique.

I left that match before half time and was home(in Padiham at the time) before the final whistle.

To what I think is my credit, I still backed Stan Ternent to sort the mess out, and sort it out he did.

I left just as Grealish came on 88th minute..... However I nearly left earlier as the smack head next to me was absolutely getting on my t*ts.... He could barely stand up / went to the toilet every 5 mins / shouted racist remarks at the stewards etc. Shouldn't have been allowed in.....

Aye. City fans have the ultimate riposte to us when we sing, asking them where they were when their team was sh1t.
Beating us when they were sh1t.
Like I said. It’s humiliating on all fronts.

Not me. 4 years ago, jaded and bored by our humdrum existence in the Prem I didn’t renew my ST. It had dawned on me that the 7th place finish and adventure in the Europa was actually the absolute peak of what we could achieve and I’d seen it.
I picked and chose my matches from there on in and gradually attended fewer and fewer games as our performances, even against the mediocre sides like us, got more and more tedious.
I realised I want to go on matches to enjoy the football as much as the win. The last few seasons under Dyche completely extinguished any passion I had for going on. As good as Dyche was for Burnley, I was glad that we got rid. He and we had stalled.
Kompany’s brand of football, along with my youngest daughter’s desire to come on and watch matches has brought me on again this season, and a ST has been bought for both of us. The main reason for this is because I don’t think we’ll be able to reliably come on on a match by match basis next term.
I can’t see us attending all the matches as I probably won’t bother coming onto the games like City as we’ll more likely then not get absolutely smashed, and I’ve no interest at all in watching such a one sided contest in person. Watching on telly this evening, I was quite happy to turn off after the third goal made an end of any contest that had existed.
We’ll never win anything whist we’re in the Prem, we’ll just make up the numbers. The best we can hope for is to stay up and, let’s be honest, even that gets boring after a while. Relegation was a blessed mercy for us in the end. It’s given us the best season we’ve had in years. All todays game has shown us is a taste of what we have to look forward to next term.

Only one embarrassing person on here

A close family member lost a full day's pay today to take my grandson, which for reasons you don't need to know, I couldn't take him

I don't know if you've noticed, but people are struggling money wise

So, having given all that up, and having sung non stop for 80 min, I have no problems with them leaving early,to make the long journey home that much easier

Only the thickest of fans would have a problem with that...

Give or take the odd 3-3, a 2-2 or 1-0 win, I've seen City absolutely thrash us in all three top divisions

I don't think any other team has the hex over us quite like they do

This is from City's POV, so the green results are bad, but from 1974 onwards it makes grim reading for us. Not won away there in my lifetime.

I was trying to work out with my dad why we played them in the Charity Shield in 73 because neither of us had won the first division or the FA Cup - someone fill me in?

The record from the late 90’s is horrendous bar a few freak draws and that win. I’ll be amazed if there is another aggregate score as big as us and City.

I've left games early many times over the years for many different reasons which is the choice we all have. One thing I wouldn't do is slag anyone off for their choice. Each to their own, it's a game of football.........

Ps I left the game at not long after the 6th goal went in to walk to my car and not get stuck in traffic. Felt miles better for doing it and was back home in no time to meet my wife round at friends for a drink :P

Lifted from wiki:
The 1973 FA Charity Shield was contested between Burnley and Manchester City in a fixture that took place at Maine Road. For the third consecutive year, neither the reigning Division One champions (Liverpool) nor the reigning FA Cup holders (Sunderland) chose to compete; instead, Burnley, the reigning Second Division champions, were invited to play Manchester City, the reigning holders of the Shield.

Burnley won the match 1–0 thanks to a goal from defender Colin Waldron.

Cinemas don't have 50k people trying to leave the same venue at the same time

I didn't bother tonight, even though it was a cup quarter final I just couldn't get excited for it at all. Was an absolute stinker of a draw, at one of the worst away days in the country.

I'm even more embarrassing, I had the opportunity to buy a ticket and turned it down - watched it on TV instead.
In fact it gets even worse - me and my girlfriend decided to go upstairs after 69 mins and I gave her a good back scuttling before our lad came home from his mates house.

Sorry 'bout that.

Leaving at 70 was indeed embarrassing, but in all fairness no more embarrassing than the Man City tribute act on the pitch .

I totally agree with the OP. I have mentioned it a few times this year and got load of abuse. My old man would never leave a Burnley game early. He always thought it was the right thing to do to support the team until the end. He has instilled that into me, my brother and we are doing that with our sons. I class myself as a proper supporter who is there until the end win, lose or draw. My conclusion after seeing some responses from people this year who try to validate leaving the ground early with pitiful excuses are that they are not a true representation of a real Burnley supporter.

I believe you're only a true Burnley supporter if you live next door to a current player 😁

Left after full time. Only just got home now.
I’m presuming you headed back to Burnley? For comparison, I left on 70 mins, and was home for 9.15.

I didn't go, I stayed at home and watched most of it on tv, once it went 4-0 I tuned over to a different channel only because it was hard to watch us suffer another battering at City, I think because we've had such a fantastic season I couldn't watch us being taken apart, if I was at the game I'd of stopped the entire game but people are different and if you pay your money you can make your own choice, calling fellow fan's jokers is you choice but ridiculous in my personal view

While my lad and I always stay to the end , I totally get why at 5/6 nil down folks would leave or 5 mins left at home , they’ll have their reasons .

Though for some if you weren’t at the Orient game it’s like They “were in Nam “ …..”you weren’t there ! You’ll NEVER understand “!!

You do realise you don’t win a supporters trophy?

You staying to the end and suffering through a mauling doesn’t mean you’re a better fan. Burnley literally have fans all over the world, I would say the fan that travels to one game a season from let’s say Japan or New Zealand is just as much a fan as you are.
