It’s tough to just come in for a cup game but he hasn’t convinced me at all. Will give him the benefit of the doubt for another season as VK has shown he has an eye for a good’un

Jury is still out for me but I fear we’ve spaffed €7m up the wall.
Re: Foster
I actually thought he did ok. He pressed really well and he certainly played his part first half in helping us compete. We were certainly worse second half without him and JBG.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 6:51 amJury is still out for me but I fear we’ve spaffed €7m up the wall.

He looked fine yesterday. Pressed intelligently and aggressively. Some nice touches and signs of decent pace (against a fast back line).
That, added to his brilliant goal and cameo last week, add to my optimism about this signing and I am personally excited to see more.

Re: Foster
He was no better or worse than anyone else last night, but yeah let’s have another thread about him possibly being a waste of money off the back of coming up against Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte and Rúben Diaz, who have played 130+ times for England, Spain & Portugal respectively between them.
I’ve no idea how good he’ll be, but he hasn’t yet been with us for 2 months and has started 3 games. That said, I suppose we wrote Muric (“clown”) and Benson (“not tough enough”) early too.

Re: Foster
Would clearly benefit from a run of starting games
But that's not going to happen next season in the Premiership
Would be better giving him a six month loan to another Championship club and see how he goes
Having said that, the likes of Barnes, Jay and Obafemi are not much better, if at all

Re: Foster
He needs a run of games against realistic opposition. Man City away is hardly the benchmark
When you are spending 7m on a player it’s always a gamble. Nothing is certain at that price. For every decent player we sign for 4,5, 6, 7 million there is always a risk they won’t be up to the job. It was the same under Dyche.
He doesn’t look great but I wouldn’t right him off just yet

I am adamant that he’s going to come good and be a power house for us.
There’s flashes of real talent. Kompany just needs to work on getting him adapted to this countries style.

I thought he did quite well last night.
He under hit a couple of passes but I think that was more because the interceptor was Kyle Walker who’s lightning. He will learn from that.

Re: Foster
He did very well last night in closing people down and doing it at the right angle (blocking passing lanes).
Our high press fell apart 2nd half and they ran riot.
You need pace in the Premier league and plenty of it.

I thought at one point he had the opportunity to chip their keeper who was in no man’s land but he took it into the box and was closed down? Does anyone else remember that?
We have to give him a chance, if Kompany rates him then I’ll take that.

All my life some Burnley fans(if you can call them fans) have always needed to find a scapegoat in the side, no matter how good we are. Really pisses me off. Get behind the team and ALL the players or **** off and watch that team down the road.

Re: Foster
For me, this is the important point. We've seen him on the pitch a few times, but VK, Craig Bellamy and the rest of the coaching staff work with him on a daily basis and can obviously see things we don't. They don't have a bad track record so far, do they? And if he doesn't make the cut, they'll deal with the situation.PaintYorkClaretnBlue wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 8:47 am

I thought he did a fine job last night. Some questionable decision making at times, but I'm much less worried than I was. He by no means warrants a regular starting place currently, but I see a real sprinkling of promise and potential

Re: Foster
If we're judging a relatively new signing on how they fare against City at the Etihad then anybody is going to struggle to impress.
He took his goal against Wigan emphatically, and he's shown enough to suggest he will be an asset in time.
He's a young lad still acclimatising to the English leagues let's judge him in 6-12 months when he's had time to settle and importantly a full pre-season.

Re: Foster
I'm thinking it's very unfair assessing a striker on the basis of his performance against a Man City money bags back line.
Hopefully he'll get a few starts and a few full 90 minutes before the end of the season which will allow him to understand style, system and pace of English football at Championship level and from that Kompany will form thoughts on how he will best be employed in the PL.

Re: Foster
I thought we looked a lot more dangerous with him on the pitch in the first half than without him in the second.
Re: Foster
I’d actually have kept him on.
He did OK in as difficult a game as he could have been involved in.

He looks more div3 rather than premiership at present, but as many have said before me,he has to be given time, after 30 0r 40 games we will
know if we have a player or not......Somebody must have seen potential,,,lets hope they know enough to get it right, but so far it is a maybe.

I don't think people are judging just based on yesterday and in any case the major view is that he needs time before reaching a conclusion.

Re: Foster
As others have said. Taking him off yesterday really effected our performance. His pressing and runs was keeping city's back line further back. Once Barnes came on they all moved up 10 yards
Re: Foster
I think you can argue the same applies with bringing Cork on, naturally JBG probably plays 10/15 yards further up the field. Meaning City’s midfield could then step forward, Barnes having to drop a little to close the gap between midfield and attack.
Re: Foster
Some good pressing from him yesterday but he looks far too ponderous at times.

Re: Foster
I think good is stretching it. Don't think anyone rated him higher than average on the ratings thread and that is possibly kind. But the same could be said of several players. That's okay though because we were playing one of the best sides in the world.

Re: Foster
Yes sometimes players require patience from our fanbase.
Part of the problem Foster and to a lesser extent Twine experience is the are fairly costly purchases compared to most of Kompany's other captures, so rightly or wrongly more is probably expected of them.
It's not the fault of either that their transfer fees were that amount, and both have shown glimpses of what they might be able to offer in the future, people need to remember they are still young, and they are both stepping up a level from what they've previously played at.

I fancy both Foster and Obafemi to score goals for us next season, though perhaps not against Man City; I think both will prove good value and at least one - Foster's my guess - will be sold on for a handsome profit.

Didn't see Jay Rodriguez do anything yesterday. Brownhill, at least, got on the radio.
Come on Jay. Put some effort in!

Re: Foster
I don’t know how anyone can judge the player without him starting in a run of games.
I thought he looked ok yesterday. Decent movement but could have done better on a couple of occasions with under hit passes. Give the lad a chance. Was unlucky to be taken off if he wasn’t injured.
Kompany clearly thinks he has the attributes to make us a better team in the long run or he wouldn’t have signed him.

Was pleased to see him start, he needs time and will have gained experience from yesterday. Thought he played well, closed down, pressed and had some really good touches. Can see him getting better each game, I do think he will come good.
People forget that this team was put together over the summer, foster only joined two months ago they are all still gelling together, learning. Expectations have been set because of how well we have been over the season.
Keep this team together for as long as possible, we’ve got the best still to come, that includes Foster

Re: Foster
Absolutely fine yesterday, linked the game nicely with what was inevitably intermittent service, presses wwll and gave the centre backs something to think about in behind.
Still a bit raw but I thought he built on the Wigan game and justified the decision to start him. I was surprised he came off myself.

Re: Foster
incredibly difficult to judge anyone against City away at the Etihad. I would say that pretty much all of RB Leipzigs team would walk into our first 11 and they conceded 7.
Re: Foster
If there is any blame to be attached it should be on VK for playing Foster and BPK. Both were always gonna be out of their depth against a team with the quality of City. Most players would be. But considering we have a 2 week break and have virtually been promoted VK should have chosen his strongest team. We would still have lost but maybe avoided the level of defeat we suffered.

Foster didn’t look out of depth. In fact he looked better than Barnes in this game, who has been excellent lately for us.FCBurnley wrote: ↑Sun Mar 19, 2023 3:11 pmIf there is any blame to be attached it should be on VK for playing Foster and BPK. I'm sure he'll go from useless to hero and back again a few times on this thread or ones like it. Give the lad 6 months at least then make a judgement. He's moved half way across the world into a level of football far above what he's used to and he's 22.

Re: Foster
I think Foster was an entirely calculated decision to get some pace through the middle on the basis that was the best way to disrupt City and threaten them. Thought it worked quite well in the first half and (big fan of Barnes though I am) gave us an attacking dimension Barnes couldn't have offered - and didn't when he came on (tough situation though it was).

Why pick on Foster? Let’s examine the fans’ darling Zaroury, whom we all adore…. But he was completely anonymous yesterday. Forming an opinion against City is the stupidest benchmark
