I hope they are also paying the taxes they deduct from wages, when they do pay them, and are quick in paying this over to HMRC.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 5:13 pmDeducted 3 points for repeated failure to pay wages on time

Re: Wigan Points Deduction
Excellent point Paul. However usually HMRC are at the back of the queue when it comes to football clubs coughing up what they owe when they should be at the front.
At the end of the day it’s schools, hospitals, local authorities and all public services that suffer through non payment of taxes.

It seemed silly at the time, but getting rid of Richardson seems even sillier now.
I have no idea of the figures involved, but they gave him a new contract then sacked him. Had they not had to pay him out, assuming they did, then they might have been able to pay wages on time and keep the 3 points.

A Nothing Club until Whelan poured his Millions in.
Now sauntering back to their natural level again, but with a nicer Ground than before.

Is that the Whelan who broke his leg in a cup final in 1960?

Reading awaiting their fate this week, according to various sources, including Paul Ince.
Guardian reporting the Royals face a six point penalty for "failing to adhere to the plan agreed between the club and Football League."
A six point deduction would put them into the fringe of the relegation struggle level with Cardiff.

And they’ve beaten them three times in the FA Cup in the last few years.

Re: Wigan Points Deduction
They put a lot of money into the club to get out of Div 1 initially and I saw on Twitter that they were now putting £3m into the club for next season. If they have that much money why do they keep delaying the wages and why didn't they use that to keep them up?

Lots hope the authorities can also show some teeth when dealing with Everton over breach of financial fair play. Can still remember when Richarlison threw a flare back into the crowd and no immediate action taken. They waited until the new season before banning him from certain number of games and Spurs not Everton took the brunt of him not playing. Had Richarlison not played for Everton post the incident theres just the possibility we would have stayed up

Re: Wigan Points Deduction
If it's 4 points per week till the season starts, they're going to struggle for automatic promotion!randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 12:48 pmWigan deducted another 4 points this morning...will start next season on -8
(They'll also struggle to sign any new players, on a more serious note. Who wants to go and play for a team on minus plenty that has a habit of not paying wages? I would have thought their only hope is to sign players who can't get a professional contract anywhere else, get relegated, and try and get the finances in order for the fourth division 2024-25.)

Wigan Athletic given second four-point deduction after missing funding deadline - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65723359
I see the owner suggested delays are common with international transactions etc.

Do they start with -4 because they went down with an irrelevant points deduction? Is that how it works?

They were handed a -4 for the start of next season, with another -4 suspended for 12 months under the proviso that they didn't miss anymore staff payment datesdistortiondave wrote: ↑Fri May 26, 2023 9:50 pmDo they start with -4 because they went down with an irrelevant points deduction? They missed another so the 2nd -4 points deduction was added.
