What is our plan B

So far this season, due to the quality of opposition, we have very rarely had to deviate from our primary game plan.

There will be games next season where we need a different approach, as we saw at the weekend. The question is, what does the plan B look like and which players do we need to execute it?

Perhaps I should say, what will our approach be in games where we are the underdogs by some distance, I suspect there are only a handful of teams we play in the Premier League where that will be the case.

Next time we play at the Etihad, will we take a different approach?

This is not a criticism of Kompany at all. It’s just we’ve only seen this team outmatched on a couple of occasions so far.

Kompany has that many different plans going that most fans won't even see the transition between them.
Millwall and Luton in particular the change in plan was evident.
He has far more up his sleeve than most fans are aware of.

Plans are ok...it's just executing them that's a problem.
Different set ups and formations has made today's Premier league matches dull boring for most of the game. I would completely ban the back pass to the goalkeeper.

Depends what you mean by different approach. Camping in our box with 5 at the back and 3 defensive midfielders? Highly unlikely. Will we play as high a line and man to man mark? Possibly but depends if that’s what he feels is Man City’s weakness that we can exploit. It depends on the opposition but our key principles won’t change (pressing traps, retaining the ball where we can, playing out etc).

I get what you are saying but I think Kompany is already very flexible depending on the game state (though still a lot to learn, as he says).

No need for a plan B.
The system we operate is very fluid. It was explained very well in an article on this thread last week.
We go from 4 4 2 to 3 5 1 to 2 4 4, depending on how the opposition set up.

So no need for a plan B, we just need to execute plan A to our very best.

I actually thought that first half hour at City showed he knew exactly how to beat them. Had Muric been playing we would have broken through their press on multiple occasions and caused some damage. Obviously though we don’t currently have the players to execute that plan for 90 minutes.

we won't need to deviate much from what we've done this season, nailed on we bring in far better quality than we currently have in the summer.

After Fleetwood we started to mix it up a bit more as just possession wasn’t working in that game and trying to pass it into the net.

I’m hoping we mix it up a lot more next season or we have the possibility of doing a Norwich , I can’t see us being as dominant against prem opposition, it will be interesting to see how VK copes with that.

Against those cheats Man City not many teams have a chance. Switched over at 30 mins as I knew they were just going to go into overdrive after that.
