Full Mouth Dental Implants

Post by basil6345789 » Tue Mar 21, 2023 6:02 pm

More and more adverts for these but are not implants but are screwed-in dentures. I wouldn't bother - 16 grand or so.

Quoted £7,000 for 2 implants in the UK, had a great discussion with a great dentist here in Spain now that I live here & had 13 crowns for €4200, the dentist was more than suprised that I’d been told to have implants….

I was at the dentists yesterday. I am now suffering from the result of a fall back in October 2019 which has left me since having six top teeth extracted. I basically don't have enough top teeth now so have had to make a decision on dentures (which I don't really want) or implants. The difference in cost is ridiculous (quoted £275 for dentures and between £8,000 & £9,000 for implants). Add to that, implants can fail for diabetics and at 71 I could hardly justify paying the implant price, would hardly be value for money. So, it's dentures I'm afraid which will be fitted in a couple of months time.

Sadly the cost difference is simply due to the vast difference in time and materials for implants versus traditional dentures. A bit like buying a B and Q bottom of the range kitchen or a high end hand built bespoke one.

Agree and I had a new kitchen fitted four years ago that was definitely high end. I’d have much preferred the implants but it’s hard to justify at my age.

CT. My wife has two teeth on a temporary top plate at the moment which she says doesn’t fit very well and understands her choice now is a better fitting plate at a cost of £282.80 or a much finer better one at a cost of between £700 to £900. Implants have been offered at a cost of £4k. She’s avoiding implants as a bone graft is required first. Did they offer you the better quality one at £700 to £900? That’s the one my wife’s is going for, she’s been told it’s a much better fitting, especially being finer.

I’ve recently had 2 implants done, tried a denture at first and couldn’t get away with it, the implants are fantastic but unfortunately they are expensive.

Got my top teeth knocked out/ broken playing hockey years ago………….a couple picked up off the floor, put back in………the broken ones eventually crowned. Years later they became loose resulting in either take them out/ dentures or implants with bone graft/bridge.

Went for the implants but as part of the procedure had a temporary denture………absolutely hated the denture………implants were done at schofields in Clitheroe……..

Appreciate the cost but honestly the best money I ever spent……

I'm on the better quality one but price reduced because of my dental insurance.

I couldn't disagree with you but given the concerns over my diabetes coupled with the cost against my age, I thought it best to go for the dentures. I will have to see how I get on with them.

Yes it’ll be interesting to have your views on them in the near future. My wife’s due next week to discuss her options with the dentist but at the moment she’s going for the better dentures. Like you she doesn’t feel at her age it justifies the cost of implants. It’s shame you can’t try the better denture for a few months first and if you dint like them set the cost off against implants.

why don't you look into turkey teeth ...like anywhere there are dodgy dentists etc but if you look into and research it properly there are some marvellous dentists in Antalya. There were many nationalists there ,Belgium German and Americans but mainly brits...
I researched it at length and went to one of the more expensive ones in September last year ,the surgery etc was like a 6 star hotel , absolutely immaculate as was the service I received .
Like I say it needs researching , I had problems with old crowns etc and badly discoloured teeth for 30 years ,I was quoted in uk 14k for having them all done again , I got a weeks stay in hotel in turkey and taxi from airport and to surgery each day for £4400....the service was incredible ..
If anybody wants the dentist website to research let me know and ill forward it on to you

Don’t think that there is a problem with overseas dentists, they are well qualified and competent.
The problem is, if you suffer any problems or issues later, UK dentists will not touch you which I guess would be a major issue. That is the reason I opted for UK treatment.
I suppose it comes down to are you willing to take a risk and save a lot of money initially.

This is a real issue. I had patients who came back to me having had complex work done in India,Turkey, which had failed.
I was unable to help them as I'd be opening a can of worms of potential future problems not of my own making.

Vincents cap , no they are not like that , at the consultation I met the owner of the dentists and she has a selection of colour shades that she runs through with you and she advises what she feels will be the best shade in relation to your age , skin colour etc , the pearly ones you see are mainly chosen by young people or famous people and I must admit in most cases look ridiculous.
The ones I were advised to get were 5 shades down from the PEARLY ONES and considering what ive put up with for decades I love them.
Im registered with lytham dentist were ive now moved and ive no problem with them .Mine are veneers though as the Antalya dentist refused to do implants as my roots on my teeth were to healthy to remove.
So they are not all cowboys

I now have perpetual toothache/gum ache, after an accident with my former electric scooter! Landed head/face first and no hands stopping the fall. Pavements are incredibly unforgiving! Felt whole jaw and teeth get rearranged. Since then, what was never great, is a lot worse.

Can you do all out and all in in one day?

Known as immediate dentures back in the day, were a popular treatment choice particularly in cases of severe gum disease, the dentures were made in advance and inserted immediately following extraction of the natural teeth.
Notoriously difficult to adapt to as the gums shrink quickly on healing and the dentures subsequently become loose, I couldn't really recommend this option.

Looked at implants last year as I have I think four missing teeth and a broken one. The dentist wanted to remove some of my good upper teeth and build up my lower ones. Seemed like a lot more work than I wanted just to fill a gap, and obviously a much higher cost. Didn't really fit with what I wanted. At 73 I have no ambition to have Turkey teeth but he didn't seem to understand my point.

Subsequent to this post, I lost another tooth right at the front. It had been crowned since I was in my teens but the tooth underneath fractured as had all the others due to the fall. Finally, yesterday, I had my dentures fitted. I can confirm that it looks much better than having the lack of top teeth and the hole in the middle but it feels unbelievably weird. I'm sure I'll get used to them. But as I said, at 71, I wasn't going to go through the expense of implants.

It's important not to presume that more expensive = definitely better.

Some dentists, as in every other walk of life, are there to make as much money as possible.. .it can be a lucrative game for some, and convincing punters about the benefits of expensive alternatives is part of the job.

The trickiest bit right now is getting advice from someone without an axe to grind.

why don't you look into turkey teeth...
Clucking hell, I've only just got a set of Hen's teeth! That could be a substantial upgrade!

I’m sure they will settle down in time CT. I know you’ve had several teeth you needed sorting due to the fall but just wanted to mention on a lesser scale my wife had her partial denture fitted about a month ago and she’s really happy with it. The NHS denture they gave her about 6 months ago she said was very uncomfortable, so she opted for the £700 one and it’s so much better, much thinner, no adhesive required. You’ll get there, just have patience.

Titanium dental plate ...Best £900 I ever spent. Skip the dentures.
Where did you get them done? My front 4 teeth are really bad now (partly due to an accident) and have been looking at replacing them with implants but they’re just so expensive. I’m having to make do with a denture but it only partially sorts the issue.

Theres a place in Bacup, Valley Denture Clinic makes and fits dentures on site. Good prices and does the Suction Dentures (no need for glue).

Visiting the dentist is very much like visiting the opticians these days. It's hard sell and grabbing every penny they can squeeze out of you at every opportunity. Just like opticians they have you over a barrel because they're the "experts" and we genuinely don't know the truth from the money grabbing and it's our health after all and something we all worry about, so we go along with it all. I booked a check up recently, was charged £43 over the phone upon booking it, they then messaged me to cancel shortly after as issues at their end, but the £43 was still taken. It's extremely easy to pump people for cash in that game and it's happening more and more and please note my late father was a dentist all his life!!!!
