How on earth can you compare this with the National Lottery? The club clearly states that loyalty points will be used for all games and that the numbers required can change per game. They’ve gone against what they say they are going to do.
But loyalty points have been used for this game- you needed 6,000 of them

After the pitiful allocation was announced then BFC were on a hiding to nothing re how to deal with supporter demand. Even if they were given to those people with zillions of points they would be complaining because they couldn't take their 3 mates or grandchildren.

A ballot is as good as any method in this situation.

You wouldn't contact the National Lottery to complain that you buy tickets every week and have done for the last 30 years (home and away), yet you still have not won the jackpot so their system needs overhauling. So why kick off now at BFC? It's all part of life's lottery.
What a ridiculous analogy.
What they have come up with is an awful way of treating the very supporters who spend thousands of pounds a year following them across the country. And often this has been in seasons where they are lucky if they see them win a couple of times a year.

A random ballot system is a lazy solution and tells you everything you need to know about our ticket office, staff and systems.

Should be a double ticket sales system in place. We've always struggled with numbers at grounds where the game has no significance or even when it did last season at West Ham. "A pitiful turn out!!" for instance You purchase a Bristol ticketl your getting a Blackburn ticket. You purchase a Sunderland ticket you get A Preston ticket. That way we're back to travelling in big numbers .

In that sense yes but the club’s website confirms the 6,000 will be altered for games where we get small allocations and/or big demands. They have not done that.

At the press of a button they know how many have 6,000+ or 7,000+ etc. They also know how many tickets each person has ordered for away games etc. they have not used the system as designed and they have not done what they said they would do.

Why do you think they haven't used the system properly, i think its because they genuinely don't care.

350 points a season ticket
50 points an away game

Come back to me when you’ve done the maths as to how long it would take a kid to accumulate 6,000 points.

How many mums, dads, brothers and sisters etc that go to games together can’t for the games that need 6,000 points?

2-4 year rolling cycle is the obvious way to go. With bonus points for attending cup games (to reward those that go to them and incentivise others too)
Totally agree with this, and to add further, you also have a natural generation gap that can stop families attending, for example I have 7100 points, but my son who is 23 has 5700 points which means no point me buying a ticket at early allocation or 6000 level because I want/need to be sat with him, so I have to wait until he gets to 6000. Then add in to the factor my grandson now has his first season ticket and attends with us, so could be between 15 to 17 years before we can all go together if the 6000 stays. I presume its even worse where family's have siblings brothers sisters with a 2 to 4 years gap in birthdays. What Travis is suggesting seems to solve this, but I do understand that this could be a selfish view. Very hard to suit everyone I suppose

I'm not very good at this ballot lark.

I missed out on the Liverpool game during the covid season, and it looks as though I've missed out here too.

I think it's because they don't have a contingency plan in place ready for these events. Maybe a lack of forethought. I imagine they weren't expecting such a response to the Luton game, so this is probably the first one that they've had to really confront.

Tony I hope you get a ticket for this game, but the fact I was unable to even enter the ballot because I didn’t have enough loyalty points surely means that loyalty points were used for this game.

Look I think they have messed this up a bit but with the right intentions, they were in damned if you do damned if you don’t situation. If they had said 10,000 loyalty points and above there would have been people moaning with 6,000 or 8,000 points.

I have no idea what a fair system was above a certain amount of loyalty points with a history of a certain amount of away games maybe, but even then somebody would miss out.

'Football without Fans is Nothing' - We heard this a lot through Covid - They have short memories.

The BRFC Manager and his Senior personnel (who backed his wishes) should hang their heads in shame on this small mindedness.

Thank Goodness they have no chance of ever being invited to the European Super League - they would be first in the queue.

Seriously everyone.....giving the club grief is barmy. There is only one club responsible for this situation and it isn't BFC. A read of this thread, and the logical points made by different people in support of different methods of allocating tickets, should make it obvious that there is NO system which can really be regarded as "fair" for every type of supporter. I am shy of 6,000 points having lived away from Burnley most of my life and with a job and family to look after for much of that time. I've had an ST for a decade and bought numerous away tickets but still have to accept the 6000 point restriction with all it's failings as pointed out by others on here. I do so because I just don't think there IS any unequivocally fair system. I'm gutted that I can't go to Ewood but I know who's fault it is.

Get a grip folks. It was a lottery draw for the tickets. You could only enter if you had 6,000 points. Your number didn't come up. Simples.

My lads all had 6000 points before they were 18, had season tickets for home games and got to plenty of away games. Now they get more chance to go to the away games that have limited capacity where they couldn't before. I think the system works well (though it looks like we've missed out on Blackburn tickets).

Got to agree with this to be honest. The only way the loyalty points can be completely fairly applied is that everyone applies for tickets and the 2000 applicants with the most points are successful. If the loyalty point cap was 10,000 instead of 2000 then we still could have had people missing out. It's the nature of a ballot.

Of course Blackburn are the main culprits here but that is outside of Burnley’s control.
What is within their control, however, is how they allocate whatever number of tickets are given to the club.

If you have a loyalty system like we do and you have the purchase data history on away tickets purchased (as we do) then most fans would accept that a fair way of prioritising would be to look at a system based on season ticket loyalty points and away games attended over a reasonable period (last 2 or 3 years). And yes this would not make all fans happy - as you say no system ever would but that does not mean that some methods of allocation are not fairer than others.

I think if some fans were involved with the club via a supporters group to come up with a system and even to deal with one off situations like this it would be much better all round.

You set the totals appropriately
But it's a matter of personal opinion whether the required loyalty points were set appropriately or not. The club uses the fairly arbitrary 6000 points as a threshold and were obviously happy for anybody above that points total having an equal chance of getting a ticket. There was going to be thousands of disappointed fans whether there was a 10,000 loyalty point threshold, or no loyalty point requirement at all. It's a matter of opinion whether the person with 10,000 points deserves a bigger chance to get a ticket for the game than someone with say 8000 points.

Hi Claret10. Where does it say about booking coach travel? I'm on the site now, I can buy tickets but can't see anything about coach travel.

This is not a wind up, I didnt enter the ballot yet I've just received an email saying I've been successful, two or three of us travel away and only one of us have 6k plus points so I didn't enter the ballot yet got one, what a balls up.

No good to me just one so I'm not claiming it

The club set what I think is a fair threshold at 6000 points. All those with 6000 are pretty well loyal. I have over 6000 but there are people with less points than me who would probably qualify as more loyal. And if you are deemed loyal enough (i.e 6000 points), you have a fair and equal chance of getting tickets for one of our most in demand games in recent times. People are going to be disappointed no matter what. We could've easily taken 10000 fans if the capacity allowed, but we only get 2000. The system they have used, in my opinion, has given those with a decent amount of loyalty points to have a fair and equal chance.

the club were on a hiding to nothing after the allocation we were given. When you have as many loyal fans home and away that we have there was bound to be grievances on how these were divided up. Don't think the club could have done much more apart from maybe thumbing their noses at the b****rds down the road and put big screens up on the turf and earn some revenue from it. At. £5 a ticket we could easily make over 50k.

And that 50k could go to local charities like the food bank etc
