Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
Little variability here, all are bunched around say 6.8, difficult to distinguish the stars from the duds but all have been very good this season though many on this board have strongish views on Muric!
Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
Interesting numbers. Just 3 players above a 7/10 for the season. Given we have just 2 defeats all season, have been dominating most games playing some of the best football this league has seen and still have the possibility to break the points record, does anyone else think that’s a bit harsh?
Out of interest, how many players got above a 7 for the season in our last title winning side?

Low because of overreactions sometimes to the lesser performances.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 4:29 pmInteresting numbers. Just 3 players above a 7/10 for the season. I've only got the ratings for 2015/16 up to when I switched from CM to UTC (so up mid-Jan). Joey Barton was on exactly seven with Matt Lowton the only player above him.
In 2013/14 there were ten with an average rating of over seven with Shackell on top at 7.51. Only Kightly, Arfield and Stanislas below seven.

Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
Given we've only lost 4 games out of 45, and only 2 in the league as we storm towards the title those numbers are incredibly low.
Clearly a tough crowd to please on UTC.

Those are the player ratings for a side midtable, not one runaway leaders.

that’s poor from us on UTC - I’d say add 0.7 to everyone’s score and that would be about right

What amazes me is our top scorer, and the guy who's bagged 2 hat tricks recently only rates 7th on the list.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 11:07 pmthat’s poor from us on UTC - I’d say add 0.7 to everyone’s score and that would be about right
I'd definitely bump up half a point or so, as even in the average games most of our squad have been comfortable at this level.
And only 3 players averaging over 7 doesn't feel right after such a brilliant campaign.

Tella scored a hat-trick 2 games ago..... very few gave him a 10.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 10:54 amWhat amazes me is our top scorer, and the guy who's bagged 2 hat tricks recently only rates 7th on the list.

Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
If voters/assessors don’t give very high votes for excellent performances and very low points for absolute shockers, this is what you get. Little variation in average scores added up over a season and a tendency to “revert to the middle”. Simple arithmetic really.
The same applies with marking examination papers, markers typically grade papers within a narrow range of 55-65% and overall students then straddle the 60% borderline between 2 (ii) and 2 (I) degrees.

Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
I do think subconsciously people are marking lower this season due to the quality of opposition. There’s been games this season where it’s difficult to mark players high purely down to how useless the opposition have been.

Are the opposition that bad, or are we making them appear poor, we can only beat what is in front of us, and we've dominated this league for months now.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 12:50 pmI do think subconsciously people are marking lower this season due to the quality of opposition. I guess we'll find out next season when we compete in the Prem.
Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
Yet, as CT said, our first promotion under Dyche saw 10 players at over 7. The quality of opposition then was just the same, if not worse.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 23, 2023 12:50 pmI do think subconsciously people are marking lower this season due to the quality of opposition. This was Derby's team (our closest rival that season) when we played them:
Grant, Wisdom, Keogh, Hendrick, Forsyth, Buxton, Hughes, Eustace, Dawkins, Russell, Martin.
That team finished 3rd with 85 points (scoring 84 goals!)... I think there is one player still playing in the Prem and one who did but is now at Reading.

I'd just average out my ratings for the season, you'll get a truer reflection.

Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
There is an argument to say Muric is the player of the season so far considering he starts each game on -3 for some

just shows you how some (probably me as well) have got used to us playing so well that they become the norm and revert to an average performance

Re: Average Player Ratings 2022/23
Think that a lot of it as well has to do with the manner in which we control games - I guess it's easy for a player to look 'average' but there's things that are hard to grade really without proper analysis; player positions etc that adds to how we play and press.
For example , people sometimes say 'Muric 6, had nothing to do' but one of the reasons he had nothing to do is his positioning, the entire shape of the team that makes it more difficult for an opponent to create a chance.
Basically, it's a team game not a game of individuals
