The good -
Great 1st half
Kane outstanding
We won

The bad -
Southgate subs
Dodgy penalty
Comedy ref
What did he do wrong with subs? I thought they were all spot on.

I thought Phillips was brilliant in the last 15-20 minutes.

A win in Italy isn't to be sniffed at as they rarely lose at home.

Sets England up perfectly for the rest of the group which we should breeze through.

Imagine criticising Kompany for Burnley beating Swansea away 2 - 1 because Swansea aren't as good as they was a few years ago.....

Almost like pretending we lost 2-0 at Sunderland to criticise despite the 4 goals in the 2nd half. We only look at 45 minutes though and we're selective with which 45 minutes we chose to analyse dependant on the worst 45 minutes of the 2.

It's almost like it's people's first watch of football, a game of 2 halves, teams do tend to play different in both halves dependant on the scoreline.

Don't worry, this isn't my first rodeo and I've been sent here to educate.

Phillips was brilliant all game.

Especially first half, where he allowed our attacking talent to flourish

A result you would expect against a limited average side, lets not dress Italy up as anything else but that. 15/8 for England scoring 2+ goals seemed buying money before kick off, luckily we played well in the first half.

As for Phillips being brilliant last night at any stage, I am going to guess at this is being done in aid of defending Southgate, he really wasn't brilliant at any stage and truth was he was the poorest of the midfield 3 by some distance but that is only because he is way off the other 2 in ability anyway he is never going to be a better player than Rice or Bellingham.

I would wager there won't be one report in the media today that has Phillips as brilliant by anyone who regularly reports on England and will consistently be rated the lesser of the 3.

Before this group started you would expect England to win either 9 or 10 of the 10 games making a case of a draw last night due to the negative approach normally taken against non smaller nations, looks like it will be the 10 wins.

Plenty of folk on here will never forgive England’s second most successful manager of all time for supporting his own players freedom of expression when they chose to take the knee to demonstrate that they believe black people’s lives should have as much value as white people’s.

All three midfielders were brilliant in the roles they played.

Phillips was brilliant in what he was brought in to do. It allowed the other players to be more forward thinking. In particular Bellingham.

What an excellent win that was , almost guaranteed we qualify with that result .Not a vintage Italian side but not bad either . The only thing that puzzles me is why Kane cheats so outrageously ,for such a gifted player to constantly go down like a cheap tart is a great pity I think .

He “allowed” the other 2 midfielders to do all the running because he was blowing out of his arse after 15 minutes.
He’s not fit - not surprising really after hardly playing football for more than a year. But in Rice and Bellingham he has 2 of the best and fittest midfielders in the world next to him so you could have had a 60 year old Sammy Lee sat there and they would still have probably won !!

Italy struggling at the moment - going through a transition period and do not have anywhere near the strength in depth of England or previous Italian generations. I would have got rid of Mancini but at least he has now realised he has to start playing some of the young players.
