I’m not going but I saw a book face post about ‘Retro at Townley’, a weekender in May.

Looked to have a half decent line up, in and amongst a few that I’d class as more on the commercial / cheesy side of the early nineties scene.
Yes I am going on the Sunday, I will be in the Angels arena, as you say some are cheese fest

Something I do myself, mainly soul music, been to the States and found a few northern soul tunes, got into some dodgy areas, Baltimore, Philly, East coast. Met the Door Wop guys by chance in Philly and they took us on the radio station they have to talk about soul over the pond. So friendly they took us to the diner Sinatra used when he did the short drive from New York.
Burnley is a great place to hear northern and rare soul. Just yesterday a dj spun JD Bryant I wont be coming back. on the holy grail soul label Shrine, that's way over the 10 grand mark. Original I should say, that was at the Burnleys Lost Souls dayer, which I'm told had a massive national reputation. Mostly attended by those wanting to hear rare and underplayed, from Hull, Southport Manchester and dare I say Leeds/ Bradford which is handy for Manchester road station. Regular stays by travellers at Rosehill house and Holiday Express. Great to see them dancing to some big sounds. Shrine only made 20 releases and they sadly bombed, then the Washington studio burnt down during the King riots it seemed all was lost and who cared anyway. Well the Brits did and somehow the soul boys tracked down most of them and now they command huge money. Try the JD Bryant above or The Prophets "One gold piece" soul heaven.
I know Dave Ferguson quite well and he is a regular DJ at Lost Souls. I’m going to try and get to one in the near future. I’ve been collecting since 1970 and I think some of the Shrine stuff is good but others poor in my opinion. Whilst I love the Northern Scene I prefer the more midtempo and more modern stuff. I started going to northern venues in 70/71 Torch and Mecca, saw Major Lance at the Torch in Dec 72 then JJ Barnes at the 100 Club the following year. That was and still is a great monthly all-nighter but now just go to Teddington on a monthly basis (I live down south) it’s a great venue and has some good DJs. I prefer stuff like Johnny Mae Mathews I Had No Choice a bit more midtempo. My main love though is deep, listen to Grace Love Mean To Me now that is soul.

Started learning guitar ..using You Tube videos and a beginner book..during lockdown and have kept this up. Surprising how quickly a couple of hours passes whenever I pick it up and start strumming away at dodgy versions of favourite songs.
Also enjoy walking every day and playing walking football, especially when it's genuinely competitive.
Hi Stalbans, I've started playing walking football last 2 years, or whenever it was that lockdown ended and people could play again. I've discovered there's a lot going on in and around south west London. We've entered a multi-age team in the Surrey FA Walking Football League for the first earlier this month: 6-a-side, multi-age teams must have 1 x 70+, 3 x 60+, the other 2 can be 50+, but all our squad are over 60. It appears pretty competitive. Chelsea Foundation are the big club around here. I've got involved with them, played a very enjoyable festival against Fulham Foundation same day as their respective teams were facing each other in Premier League. Also played a tournament in Feb that Spurs put on in north east London - the western end of White Hart Lane (Spurs stadium is at the eastern end). That was a big event, Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Watford, Leyton and a few others across several age groups. TV cameras were there, partly because Ossie Ardiles and Gary Mabbutt were there as "Spurs Ambassadors." There was was a report on BBC London news at 6:30pm. The big focus with walking football is social welfare of us old men. The exercise is great. The social connections are great. I did a referees course at Surrey FA last week. Some of the guys there are involved with the FA in developing the FA walking football rules. Quite a bit to learn, not least because it seems almost everywhere you go the rules are a little different - and sometimes, very different. (My body doesn't heal/recover as quickly as it did when I was younger).

I'm also a frequent walker. I've been fund raising for Cancer Research this month, walking at least 10,000 steps every day. Only 4 days to go.

I get to the theatre fairly regularly. I'd be up in London twice a month, on average, before lockdown threw it all out of kilter. I guess we are back to once a month at moment.

Similarly, travel, getting back into the swing of things with European trips. Planning on further afield with some long haul trips from next year.

Currently best grayling fishing around is the river Calder in Padiham. People travel from all over to fish it.

I'd say Burnleys lost souls is very atb, xover my favourite, we had Guitar Ray,you're gonna wreck my life, Bobby Reed, Almeta Latimore etc. Seriously my mates in London say Burnley LS are recognized as one of the best rare and underplayed venues in the country, Fred Benson respected Yorkshire collecter was there on Sunday, he's raving about it today on fbook. Johnny Mae Mathews was also played. Check when Ginger Taylor is on, his rare box is awesome, say hello if you come. Folks will know who I am.

Mainly Overwatch stuff, he has some plans to do collaborations with some gamers in the USA who got in contact with him.

He's planning a Pokémon channel soon.

He's just switched jobs, to working nights, so hasn't put much up lately.
He had started increasing viewer numbers but he got a telling off over copyright stuff so YouTube stopped sharing his videos with others
I'm assuming he's streaming on Twitch because that is the place for gaming atm

He didn't realise you could record and upload onto their, he thought it was live streaming only and he didn't want to say something out of turn live

Also trying to get him to do more short clips for tiktok/insta etc.

Hes coming round to that stuff slowly

Papabendi, who occasonally posts on here, restores ferries and small craft that had been auctioned for scrap.

Shortly after lockdown 2 ( i think!!) He took a few clarets of a certain vintage on an old Manx Supply funnel ship on a 36 hour trip round the Isle of Man. He even brought his Ukele and knocked out some George Formby classics after tea on the first night!

Getting drunk and milf hunting mainly!

On a side note though I do a bit of

Gaming (Sims mainly - racing, flying)
Brewing
Mountain biking
Cooking

Kids getting out of Lego which I used to like doing but is getting into Warhammer and airfix planes which is really enjoyable at the moment, especially the painting.

I spend all my money on beer and going on holiday otherwise I'd probably have a pilots license or some kind of kart/car to play with on the weekends.

Bit tame compared to some of you other posters.
Running. Started years ago when I gave up smoking, and was desperately unfit. Got up to half- marathon distance, but age ( and ever dodgier knees) mean that 10k is a good run for me now.
Studying French language and culture. I go to a great local authority weekly class.
Bowls. Started playing a few years ago when we retired to a small coastal village in Cornwall. Absorbing and enjoyable game.

There is nothing like a 3 day trip out fishing with your mate. Chilling and catching few fish. Getting up at dawn to see the sun come up. Amazing wildlife.
Best sunrise ever, 5am in Oxford.

Funny story on that trip.
We had a few beers before going to sleep.
Now my mate has an open fronted bivvy/tent. Mine is closed.
About 2 am he feels something on his sleeping bag and thinks it me forget /lost something.
Wakes up and looks and it’s a bigs rat jumping up and down on his sleeping bag.

My hobby is flying historic aircraft.

I was halfway through getting my pilots licence then figured there was no real point continuing as I wouldn't be allowed to carry passengers due to having type 1 diabetes.

So now I just fly in other people's planes instead.

I won't bore you with a list of flights but this was me in my favourite one so far, a Mig15

It's not everyday you have a MIG 15 lying about in your local aerodrome........

I will stick to my Gulfstream 550 😀

Sounds like we have a lot in common.
I had a first go at walking football in the Friday afternoon sessions held at Barnet FC's The Hive complex but, since I relocated back up this way last year I've started playing for Burnley Clarets in the Manchester League each month and love it.We play twice a week every week at the Leisure Box in Brierfield which is a BFC in the Community asset.
I'm averaging over 17,000 steps a day walking this year and it helps keep the weight off as I like my food ! Have also just returned from a 4- week trip to the South Atlantic taking in Chile, The Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica and travel is very much on my ongoing agenda.

Dave Whitehead isn’t a bad lad for a sheep shagging yarksher basterd. He told me he’d been to a Burnley Soul Do, wasn’t aware it was Lost Souls. Are they monthly.
Met Dave at Rolls Royce soul in Barlik, yes monthly at Greenhill bowling club usually last Sunday of the month but a couple of Saturday events. It's on fbook as Burnleys lost souls and should be on soul source events. Strange thing is we get loads of lads from Yorkshire, Leeds fans, Wednesday, United etc. Got to say they have good crack, you almost imagine them as human. Some good nights of rare stuff over that way Horse and Groom, must be a joke in there somewhere, Blind Pig etc We used to do the White Bull in Gisburn modern and xover with Soul Sam,Pat Bleasdale, but is currently closed.

I teach music so I'm lucky that my hobby is my livelihood but as well as teaching music, I like to play in shows. At the moment, I'm rehearsing for School Of Rock at Bury Met in a few weeks and Shrek The Musical at one of the schools I teach at.
