Wheelchair Rugby League - mad and brutal.
Fly Fishing - Zoning out in nature and occasionally catching a fish
Making Beer - Won a few awards over the years
Playing Guitar - Badly but I have fun
Archaeology - I volunteer on digs over the summer and am now studying it part time via distance learning

Papabendi, who occasonally posts on here, restores ferries and small craft that had been auctioned for scrap.

Shortly after lockdown 2 ( i think!!) He took a few clarets of a certain vintage on an old Manx Supply funnel ship on a 36 hour trip round the Isle of Man. He even brought his Ukele and knocked out some George Formby classics after tea on the first night!
Got any pictures or a site where he posts pictures of his restorations?

I've seen programmes on ship restoration and even if a ship/boat is small it's still a major undertaking.

My pub going days have slowed down to the point where I’d rather be in bed for 10 than have a hangover, but I’d like to have a new hobby.

I quite fancy model painting, maybe dioramas or something like that. It seems meditative. Part of me thinks I shouldn’t and that it doesn’t have a productive result or a point, but does a hobby need to have a point? Can’t it be a thing in itself without needing an end result.

What’s your thing or your hobby?
Started off doing miniature dioramas of WW2 scenes from old photographs, but storage soon became a problem. So I moved to historical wargames, joined a club and have several horse and musket ‘armies’ including one of the largest private collections of ACW in the country. These days when I have time I either paint up some Naps or I quite enjoy painting DND as my lad likes a game, once in a while it makes a good family evening too. Sadly have not had a chance this last twelve months or so… but as I come to final dissertation time I no doubt will need an off switch…. When my paints reappear.

Nothing better than being out in the fresh air walking with the dog my aim is to walk the entire length of the Fife coastal path which I believe to be about 117 miles long I've completed Leven to Crail which I believe is about 17 miles so only another 100 mile to go..so for now walking is my passion, our dog is struggling now on longer walks so my hobby may take a while as me and the dog take our time,
I've also recently got into succulents and cacti they come in some weird and wonderful shapes and are some much easier to look after with not needing a lot of watering, also fascinated by airplants and it also brightens up our home so its win win.
Struggling with a bonsai though. :D

How big is your dog Steve? I do a lot of long distance walking (15-25 miles) with my two and use a couple of doggie slings to give them occasional breaks. They usually take turns but occasionally I have to carry both! They weigh about 7kgs each.

Same here, just thinking about blowing some bubbles at Capers soon but usually wait for double digit water temps. Think it's 7c at the moment.
I have a weeks liveaboard to look forward to in August on the Northern wrecks and reefs itinerary in Egypt with my 15 year old lad. I have done quite a few liveaboards this will be his first, had to wait until he reached 15 years of age for the 30 Metre depth limit. Last year we did 5 days day diving out of Hurgarda

He'll post them on here but the Dhow in Fleetwood Harbour is one of his most notable works.

Papabendi is as East Lancs as they come but one side of his family have had links to the Hamble shipbuilders since the 19th century. Apparently, the 80s TV Show Howard's Way was based on one of his uncle's yards!

That's not a K-series engine is it??
If it is, is that an Elise or mgf?
It’s an MG TF, been garaged for 8 years at my mums. She has gone into assisted living so the MG needs to be brought to life again. Wiped the head off and sump. Added the uprated oil rail, new mls head gasket, uprated head bolts. Plus painting the underside and the subframes.

I have a brother who is a birdwatcher (and a Claret) from Leeds… he introduced me to someone as daft as him (only kidding) I think he lived up Pike Hill somewhere.....is that you?

That was the biggest issue with the MG TF and the k series in general.

By fitting the uprated oil rail, stronger stretch bolts and the new style head gaskets, they last a lot longer between issues.

I'm just reading a book about the making of a model but also the refurbishment of HMS Gannet, a steam/sail sloop that now sits at Chatham Historic Dockyard.

Golf - 2/3 times a week
Dog walking - including taking out rescue dogs
Travel/holidays
Fishing
Walking football
We retired to the Portuguese sunshine 3 years ago. Which means we can spend lots of time outdoors.
Walking football is great but can be really physical if not properly reffed.
