Quantum Mechanics

It takes 2 minutes to read a thread, post a comment, and then get back to what you were doing. People aren’t discussing quantum mechanics on here.

No reason why we shouldn't.

Is Quantum M better than Burnley M for example?

Now we have electric cars, will any mechanics at all be needed?

A friend of mine 'Prof' from age 11 and went on to be one, studied Quantum Mechanics as part of his original physics degree. I went to see him and he explained it all to me.

Didn't go and visit, after that!

Where does an atom go when it breaks down?

A quantum mechanic.

That’s exhausted my supply of Quantum Mechanics jokes

You should try reading A Brief History of Time. I had to read each chapter 3 times to make sure I'd understood it and I'm fortunate to have a high IQ.

IanMcL to Pstotto that's a hell of a Quantum leap.

A proton walks into a bar,
The bar man says “sorry we don’t serve electrons”
The proton says “says I’m not an electron I’m a proton”
The bar man says “are you sure”
The proton says “ Yes, I’m positive”.
Boom, Boom.

There are 3 types of people in this world
Those who understand quantum computing
Those who do not understand quantum computing
And those who both simultaneously do and do not understand quantum computing

Car mechanic here.

"Technicians" will still be needed for the wear and tear stuff like tyres, suspension, brakes and when the electrics go screwy.

ICE mechanical ability will eventually become a specialist thing after EV becomes the majority for a number of decades, similar to how the majority of mechanics have never done a set of points and condenser on a carb engine, simply never needed too

As it has been so long locked in the box I am positive Schrödinger's cat is dead.

I'm not getting entangled in this debate, it all leads to uncertainty.

Our perception of an atom structure fits with a very simplistic image ( Bohr model) but it is still nonsense. The nucleus consists of protons ( having mass and + charge) and neutrons ( mass) surrounded by a "cloud" of electrons ( v little mass and -ve charge). The electrons are held in their "cloud" ( or energy levels s,p,d,f) at a distance from, but surrounding, the nucleus by the complementary attractive charge of the protons. The neutrons ( which continually flip to be protons, and visa-versa) are held in the nucleus by the binding energy ( from which we extract atomic energy during fission).

In the above model we will ignore that electrons may/ may not be in a particular position at any specific time - Schrodingers cat can pass through both slits simultaneously as per QM.

Now if we scale relative sizes we may represent an atom nucleus by a football and an electron size with an apple pip. Now comes the issue- if we place the football on the centre spot in TM then the first electron ( or pip) we'd encounter, in terms of distance, would be close to Padiham!! The question is- what physically fills that gap between TM and Padiham? It cannot be a vacuum as the atom would collapse in on itself. May be the "space" is occupied by neutrinos?

Does anyone have a plausible explanation for that space?

I'm having a deep thought day - what is the meaning of life :D

The space inside the atom is occupied by the Space Time Continuum. I don’t understand it, but it does stop my head hurting when I think about such things.
