Out all season with an injury.

Thats Florists promotion challenge down the drain. 😁 Will solve their offside problems though.👍

Interesting that they’ve got the 15m obligation to buy, imagine paying that for a 32 year old Wood in the Championship (if they go down).

If it's still the case that obligation to buy exists even if they are relegated that's madness.

People wondered at the time whether we got rid of Wood too soon, well clearly we didn't as he failed at Newcastle, and his sojourn at Forest has been poor to say the least.

Chris was a good signing for us consistently scoring over 15 goals a year in the Premier league wasn't too shabby
Loosing him was seen by some as good business, but without his goals we were relegated .However this was the best result as we have been awesome this promotion season.

If we did a family fortunes ‘we asked the Burnley fans: will you take £25m for Chris Wood right now?’

I wonder what the top answer would be.
It was evident to a blind man on a galloping horse 😉 that his race was absolutely run and was the bang on time to sell him.

Thought his goals in the prem was nearer 10 than 15 tho, must admit.

There’s not a person on here that would allow a 15 goal-a-season striker go for £25m if we had one.
If he had got 15 (or even a pro-rata 15) - we’d have been nowhere near the mess that we went down in.

Which people? Certainly not anyone who witnessed his final 8/9 months with us. It was as plain as the nose on your face he was done…. He wouldn’t put any effort into keeping his socks up, let alone us.

Without his 3 goals that final season?

Did very well for a time, one of my favourite players. But his effort levels and complete lack of interest in his final season leaves a sour taste in my mouth…

He got 10 in his first 2 seasons, 14 in the third and then just 3 before he left. He has never hit 15 in the Premier league once.

His crap performances for the last 6 months contributed more to our relegation than his sale did.

Had a 12 too in the season after the 14 so 10, 10, 14,12 and 3.

Much as I disliked how Chris Wood could not get away quick enough when the chance to join Newcastle appeared, I do think he would have been more effective than both Rodriguez and Barnes in this new team

Dead weight player for me, If rolling subs were a thing you would bring him on when we had a corner or penalty then immediately take him back off.

Slower than a week in jail, zero first touch/hold up play and the fella was born offside.

Wood was good for us and his goal return you couldn’t turn your nose up at but when he was off form he was absolutely dreadful and he was too often out of form.

We sold at the perfect time and got what looks like a brilliant sum for him.

Wood was half the player Andy Gray was, proper hold up striker was Gray.

Did a good job for us and proved an excellent signing when you consider the £10m profit we made on him alongside the 49 PL goals. He was a streaky goalscorer and I still believe would have closed in on near 10 for us had he remained last season, but who knows. We definitely had the best of him as said above. The funny thing about Wood is he was always our goalscorer in that period but never really a fans favourite - never had much of a rapport etc. Odd one that, can only really think of perhaps Paul Barnes in a similar vein.

If Forest take him in the Championship though (they may well go down) it’ll be very interesting to see how he does. His last season there before we bought him he got 27 goals. A lot older now and less mobile you’d think, £15m a lot of money at 32 and for the player he now is (and huge salary I’d think).

He’s been badly out of form for going on 2 years now.
He had much better players around him at Newcastle when he first went and was playing and still looked awful in a team that was doing well. And even after joining Forest a team in relegation trouble he still could not make the starting eleven.

He had a number of decent seasons for us and was an important player but he seemed to lose something in that last year with us and he’s not showing any signs of getting it back.

At Championship level Gray was good.

He scored 1 goal in 51 Premier League appearances. Chris Wood has more goals in the Premier League than Gray has appearances.

Good player when we actually played football and created chances.

Suffered more than most from our regression to turgid longball rubbish and Westwood's no-look dinks to nowhere.

Dont get me wrong, I am not a fan, but having seen how VK and Bellamy have coached Barnes & Rodriguez, I think they could have got Wood firing in this Division. Lets face it, how many PL clubs have come in for Barnes or Jay with £25m in the last 3-4 years. Both Newcastle and Forest must have seen something in him

Correct, and you could see it affecting the whole team after a while, leading to hit and hope and a major lack of confidence in front of goal

Newcastle triggered the £25m clause for Wood just after they had been knocked out of the FA Cup by Cambridge.

Newcastle must have known they were paying over the odds and to my mind it was the very definition of a panic buy.

They did, however, make some good signings in that January window, and those other signings continue to contribute for them.

What was amazing was Burnley replaced him with someone even slower. Someone who was wanted by Man U so surely pace isn’t everything?

If he felt he was stale at Burnley though, the Championship next year will be interesting for him. I can’t see Forest staying up.

I reckon he knew he was going to Newcastle ages before he signed, his form dropped drastically as he wanted to help his new employer out in my opinion.

His entire time here was patchy, he'd go through long runs of rotten form and performances then hit a little spell of goals. I think the only reason Newcastle took him was an attempt to weaken us.

I agree that Wood was patchy - streaky is the word that I often used. His style of play meant that when he was off it he looked to contribute very little. The flip side was that during his hot streaks he was, at times, the closest to an unplayable PL striker we've had. At his best, physically dominant and very efficient in front of goal.

It's all about opinions but we had the very best of him and turned a sizeable profit on him. Maybe he could have chosen better language on his departure but I can forgive the fact that he was a better footballer than he was a diplomat.

I'm sure weakening us was a factor in Newcastle's decision making but I take no satisfaction in his subsequent drop in form, and certainly not in his injury.

Chris Wood was brilliant for us. He used to run the channels really well, yeah he was offside a little bit too much but whatever.

The partnership he forged with barnes in the 7th placed finish season was deadly - for a period of ten games or so they were the most effective goal scoring duo in the league.

Could his all round ability have been better? Maybe, but let’s not forget some of the performances he turned in - as for not effective at corners that’s laughable - along with tarky and Mee he absolutely bullied the United backline for our 2-0 win at Old Trafford

Wood was brilliant for 3 seasons, however something changed in his final months at Burnley, and for me he seemed to have lost his hunger.

Would he have suddenly started banging in the goals again as in previous season maybe, but for the daft amount Newcastle were offering we had to take the money in my view.

And his subsequent career has hardly suggested he was up to providing goals at PL level anymore.

Makes me feel slightly better about the Foster deal, only slightly though.
Why?

Wood had a crap 6 months for us, granted. But he was always a player who scored in fits and starts. A more than solid performer Premier League player.

Did we have Newcastles pants down? Absolutely. But I think Forrest have got a decent deal. Foster, whilst he has age on his side, hasn’t exactly performed at the league below, let alone the Prem. Fingers crossed he picks up!

Whatever fee we paid for Foster, we were robbed.
Why?
VK has said that Foster was to use these 6mths since signing to settle in, get used to the country, his team mates etc and then have a proper preseason to get ready for the PL.
