Burnley v Rovers - April 1977
April 8th 1977 - Turf Moor - Burnley. Clarets v Blackburn Rovers - Division Two. Result 3-1 to Burnley
I took the photos myself from the Beehole terrace.
Somewhere I have a photo of Malcolm Smith firing Burnley into an early lead but it has gone missing. I think one of the attached pictures shows the celebrations following that goal.
See if you can identify some of the players featured.

First picture looks like Crystal Palace rather than Rovers.

Judging from the strip and the reaction of the number 5 (and with thanks to CT for the fixtures and results log), I'm guessing the top photo is from:
Sat 03 Sep 1977 CRYSTAL PALACE h D2
D 1-1 10,460
Burnley: Nicholas 15og
Crystal Palace: 23
Sat 03 Sep 1977 CRYSTAL PALACE h D2

Burnley: Nicholas 15og
Crystal Palace: 23

Wasn't he the one who was great whilst on loan, but totally useless when we'd signed him permanently?beeholeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 3:23 pm

Well that's a revelation to me. I thought these pics were from the same match. Looking at the shirts more closely they are different. Not like me to make a such a basic error on my BFC pics!

Let's be honest, there's been far more than just one!! But yes, Smith was excellent early doors for us and the opening goal in that derby match in '77 was a great strike TBF. I'm sure the Burnley fan who won big on the pools put the money up for his permanent transfer because we were skint., but that might be just an urban myth. That particular derby match had a brilliant atmosphere with us scoring early and them equalising right on half time before we got 2 in the second half.

Great pictures. Could two of the Blackburn players be John Bailey and Kevin Hird?
And I'm sure I recognise some of those backs of heads in the crowd.

Danny Carr was the pools winner. He offered to buy Smith but Bob Lord wouldn't accept his money, telling him we didn't take charity.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 4:07 pmLet's be honest, there's been far more than just one!! Looks like Kevin Hird in the centre, Glenn Keeley to the right as we look. Possibly Stuart Metcalfe at edge of area (if he was still there in 77??).

I know there could have been team changes but Metcalfe was still there, he's named in the programme.beeholeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 6:10 pmGood shout.

Great pics. The Crystal Palace game was my first Burnley match. Think that's Marshall Burke number 4.
Presume that's a token effort at segregation on the Longside in the Rovers photo? They must have widened the gap by the next season as I don't remember home and away fans being that close.
