Re: Kompany to Spurs
I know I’m totally biased but I can’t help thinking it would be a catastrophic move.
He would need to win something to be successful which has eluded some of the best managers in the world.
The squad is getting older. Sooner or later Kane will start to tail off and the rest of the squad misfires on a regular basis.
He might get 2 years before they pull the trigger and I can’t seen Spurs winning anything in that window.
He has impressed his style on young eager players without much ego… another thing him doing it on established Prem players who may think they are as good as Kompany was.
A bit like Dyche he has a free shot at Burnley. We could finish bottom and he would still have a job as we would just accept he has a lot to learn and let him go again as we did Dyche.

Don’t think winning something is a criteria for Spurs is it…
Re: Kompany to Spurs
It is why they keep potting their managers after a couple of years. Not had any stability since Poch who got them to Champ League final but that wasn’t enough.

The article in the Sun is based on absolutely nothing other than idle speculation to fill a journo’s word count.

I just can't see them appointing a manager yet to manage at a higher level than the Championship, as good as I believe VK is and will be.
Especially when the likes of Pochettino, Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique are all available.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
Fairly easy to see why Spurs could be interested in Kompany dependent upon their risk appetite. Easier to see why Kompany could be interested in Spurs. It would obviously need those two things to align though and there are some big names in the frame.

He won’t be going to Spurs. Too big a gamble for them at this stage.
Has anyone actually read the article this all stems from? It’s flimsy even by The Sun’s standards.

Vincent Kompany is a winner, for that reason alone he won’t go to Spurs.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
I’m not reading the article but I’m assuming it’s something along the lines of the usual - “Big club” needs a manager/coach & former big player currently doing well as a manager/coach at a smaller club so why wouldn’t they want to leave for a bigger club.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
Completely chilled about stuff like this
Its what happens when clubs our size do well, be it players or managers, and if he does leave (and I fully acknowledge that this is almost certainly click bait, then he leaves us in a strong position)
Anyway, I'd have thought when it comes to the Spurs job, then you'd be a lot more worried if you were a Brighton fan

I don’t think there’s anything in it at all.
But laughable to think Kompany wouldn’t go if offered it.

You give the article too much credit. I’m not even sure there’s an actual full paragraph on Kompany. It’s just filler. Probably written by a junior journo for clicks.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
My guess is it stems from an opinion piece in Wednesdays Times where Tony Cascarino postulated that Kompany would be the ideal man for Spurs. Not a link or an inside tip just his view, which he is paid to provide. I checked the odds though and Vinny was 25/1 and well down the field as posters above have outlined. It inevitable someone who has done a great job, is articulate, intelligent and has a strong profile will get mentions when PL jobs come up. He is an inspiration and has lifted all Claret hearts beyond expectations. The longer he stays the better for all. He will be in the dugout next year.

VK confirming he signed a 5 year deal and interesting that their aim was to build a squad capable of promotion within 2-3 years.

He'll be a success wherever he goes, the guy has it all.
The previous managers Spurs have had in the last 20 years are so far removed from Vincent Kompany it's immeasurable.

Interestingly on the promotion within 2-3 years, I remember seeing an interview or podcast with Bellamy towards the start of the season and he said the same thing. He thought promotion would come too soon for the team they were putting together and the plan was for a promotion push next season. You have to take success where and when it comes, but I've got absolute faith in Kompany and team getting us ready for a decent chance to stay up. The guy is on the path to the very top, we need to enjoy it while we can.

I don’t think it’s that straight forward. It depends whether he see’s it as a useful part of his development and (no doubt) a step towards the ultimate aim of managing City. He’ll have it all planned out and Spurs may not be the kind of club he’s looking for.

After his comments on Patrick Vieira and Palace I'm pretty certain he won't be going anywhere near Levy and Spurs.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
Two separate interviews with Alistair Campbell on Sky News this morning.
First part about his success at Burnley.
Second part about his upbringing and diversity in the game.
As we would expect he comes across very well. As stated above he spoke of not expecting the success so early, and also said that when you buy 20 players, you expect at least 5 not to make it, so then you move them on and improve. Also spoke about how we are aiming to be sustainable.
It all points to another exciting summer ahead.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
Very well put. This is not like the scenarios with Owen Coyle (opportunist) or Dyche (no opportunities). I believe VK will have a clear career strategy in mind and I’m not convinced that an early move to Spurs will be part of that strategy. But you never can tell.martin_p wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 8:38 amI don’t think it’s that straight forward. Spurs rapidly reaching the point where it is seen as a managers graveyard. Good managers will not want to work under Levy.

Graham Potter jumped at the chance to manage Chelsea knowing he could get sacked at any time. Won't stop managers moving to bigger clubs.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 9:11 amSpurs rapidly reaching the point where it is seen as a managers graveyard. Re: Kompany to Spurs
Nuno Espirito Santo was the talk of the town at Wolves, jumped ship for the Spurs job, was unceremoniously binned after four months. Now managing somewhere in Saudi. It's clear VK's end game is the City job.
Re: Kompany to Spurs
Graham Potter wouldn’t have had his career mapped out like I’m sure VK will. Besides, it’s a slightly different scenario, Potter had already proved himself in the Premier League and perhaps thought he was ready for a bigger challenge. VK has had nearly one full season in England, in the Championship, I would doubt he’d feel himself ready.

I am reasonably assured that the title will be fulfilled, some time next season - in a very good way.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
Kompany wouldn’t go to Spurs. It’s daft thinking to suggest he would.
- he doesn’t need the cash
- he has no PL managerial experience
- he has a loyalty to Burnley and to his young players who took a chance on him and won’t be good enough to follow him
- the risk of ending up like Nuno is high
- the Sours players are decadent and seem in their comfort zone, he cannot change 20 players like he did here
- it could hamper him getting the City job not help it, either through underperformance or through over performance (if he is top he won’t jump ship)
- his wife and kids are in Manchester

Re: Kompany to Spurs
Spurs are looking at how Arteta another Pep disciple has achieved a great style of play and potential great success at their rivals ans assume VK will do the same, however VK was captain,Arteta was assistant, massive difference. Also look at the high quality managers who have failed at Spurs and Conte's parting shot would put most up and coming managers off.

Re: Kompany to Spurs
Chances to move to a top club don't come around every week. If and I know it's a big 'if', VK were to be offered the Spurs job I'd be most surprised if he turned it down. However for the time being, the only thing that matters is VK guiding us to 3 points tonight and getting the City debacle out of the system.
Re: Kompany to Spurs
Well that's not true at all, is it? Roman was the man firing and hiring the managers every 6 months, not the new American owner.
Re: Kompany to Spurs
New owners often want to do it their way and hire their own staff so I don't count the Tuchel sacking as Boehly being trigger happy like Roman. I know Pace spoke up Dyche when he came in and backed his talk with a long contract extension but I think he regretted that pretty quickly when it's clear his vision wasn't going to be met under Dyche.
Re: Kompany to Spurs
Talksport say Spurs are after him, if he isn’t at the game tonight then we’ll know.
I think he’d take the job, money talks.

Also on the Talksh!te website is an "exclusive" saying that Brendan Rodgers is in line for the Spurs job, even if Leicester drop, pundits Ally McCoist and Stuart Pearce backing his appointment!
Talk about covering all bases.
Re: Kompany to Spurs
100% he'd take the job, he's done his job here and got us promoted he could see it as job done and take his next step.
He might also be wary of promotion with a transfer embargo hanging over us which could make his job difficult next season
