Average performance against a team that kept up the press for nearly 90 mins. Probably the first to do so this season.

Ref was awful and played into their niggly tactics. Hope we never get him again at the turf, he's absolutely useless.

Muric 6
Roberts 7
THB 6
Beyer 6
Maatsen 6
Cullen 7
Brownhill 6
Benson 5
Tella 5
Zaroury 5
Barnes 6

JBG 7
Obafemi 6

Basically all our key attacking threats had an off day. A few looked leggy after the international break. We needed more movement in the middle third to prevent them from keeping 5 high up to counter our passing from the back. It felt like we either played too risky, or just belted it up the field. Not playing JBG from the start was a bad move in hindsight.

One positive, only 3 game to go now to stay undefeated all season.

Muric 5 - nervous with his feet after his poor showing for Kosovo midweek
Roberts 6 - got quieter as the game went on
THB 6 - steady but not fully sharp yet
Beyer 6 - a couple of silly runs, normally he chooses those moments well
Maatsen 6 - pinned to his position by their winger
Cullen 7 - kept it tidy but nearly gave it away a couple of times
Brownhill 5 - slower than normal, not fully fit, and didn’t help our forward play
Benson 6 - our most threatening player despite not being fully fit, was unlucky with a couple of balls in
Tella 4 - not his day which considering he hasn’t been away was a surprise
Zaroury 5 - a couple of moments but fleeting
Barnes 8 - magnificent, knitted it together beautifully, unlucky with his shot when it bobbled

JBG 7 - improved it when he came on

One of those things, leggy players after a lot of flying and we were only at 60% of our best whereas they were right at it. He was determined to get the three injured lads fit before Boro and Blades and this affected us tonight, three half fit players and another six who had been away in the starting eleven. Whether that was a good decision or not we can ask at 10pm on Easter Monday.

The ref was bonkers, and their time wasting was appalling, so we were up against it on many levels.

There was one 10/10 tonight though - Jack Cork. He gets better and better the more he doesn’t play. We have seen this for so many years. When Jack plays, we win. I can understand us transitioning away from him due to age, but that Premier League nous wins the game tonight. Not sure Vincent has quite figured this out yet. It isn’t all about what stats the GPS spits out.

THB getting reasonable scores
I m amazed thought he was the negative tonight
Sideways backwards and slow passing which lead to us dropping deep
If E?kdal played tonight we d have walked that game !

Far from our best but yet another clean sheet. Sunderland played like it was a Cup Final
Muric 7 don’t get all the fives
Roberts 7 did ok after a week of internationals
THB 5 off the pace after a long lay off
Beyer 6 a couple of errors but good going forward
Maatsen 5
Benson 5 Rusty
Cullen 6
Brownhill 7
Zaroury 6 like others he looked tired after travel and Ramadan

Some strange tactical decisions tonight by VK, but he can’t get it right every time. Onwards and possibly upwards at Boro

Before the game I thought it was a tricky game, I thought JBG should have started the game and Benson brought on as a impact sub.

Rusty all round really which is understandable with so many away and a few coming back from injury.
We couldn’t really get our forward players involved enough.

Muric 6 Bit slow on the ball
Roberts 8 Thought he looked as likely as anyone to create a winner
Harwood-Bellis 6 A few "lazy" balls, defensively sound
Beyer 6 Got caught a couple of times trying to break the lines
Maatsen 5 Stupid yellow made him defensively fragile, and provided little going forward
Cullen 6 Slowed it down too often when we beeded to turn them round
Brownhill 5 Didn't offer much of an alternative to the out ball from Muric to Cullen, and didn't pick up the 2nd balls when we tried to hit Barnes. Also thought he should have scored
Tella 5 Trail Hume had him in his pocket
Benson 5 Didn't look match fit, should have scored
Zaroury 6 I thought he looked excellent when he moved centrally, but didn't have the end product tonight
Barnes 5 A couple of nice touches and layoffs, but didn't hold the ball up or really put their CBs under pressure. Had 2 really good chances and didn't look like scoring. Shame, because he was looking really good before the international break

Gudmundsson 7 Made a difference going forward. I think he's a better option than Brownhill in the 2nd midfield position, especially when the opposition press as well as Sunderland did

Disappointing tonight. Below par all over the pitch, and didn't take the chances we had. Could have lost too. I also think we need a plan E to playing out from the back, as the 4 options we have (pass it around and wait for the middle to open up; 1-2 off Cullen;
long to Barnes and play off him; over the top to Tella) didn't work most of the time, and some not at all

Loads of players playing internationals or away, three players returning from injury and an excellent Sunderland performance (I don't think they can play any better than that, while we certainly can)

Even so, Barnes miss, Benson mis control and more than a couple of very poor final balls after we'd broken through shows that we still had more than enough to win, but it wasn't anywhere near the standards we've set ourselves

Our movement to create space when we were trying to build from the back was nowhere near its usual standard, but that wasn't helped by some uncharacteristic sloppy passing

Its a point, and every point counts

Muric 6 - passing got worse the more the game went on
Roberts 7 - had more space than most and tried to use it
Beyer 6 - most wobbly I've seen him and he was still pretty good
THB 6 - looked like a player whose been out for a while
Maatsen 6 - no space in front of him at all
Benson 5 - another one who needs the minutes, but probably from the bench
Cullen 7* - did what he could, but he was surrounded by Sunderland players all game
Brownhill 6 - looked knackered and very surprised he lasted the whole game
Tella 5 - just never got going
Barnes 7 - thought he did okay to be honest, probably should score
Zaurory 6 - not his night, but he's one of the them you keep on for his energy and pace I think

JBG 7 - should have started I think

A pity he spent half of it playing on the right wing in that case.
He's no more a winger than Ben Mee is a left back.

The game was crying out for the composure of Cork.
Right get it now,it’s Jack cork fans marking brownhill down.Don’t get me wrong I love cork but to rate Cullen more than brownhill last night is laughable.

Muric 6 - tidy with his hands. Thought the defenders put him under too much pressure playing back to him at almost every opportunity
Roberts 6 - struggled to have an impact like in previous few games
Harwood-Bellis 6 - good to see him back. Passing a bit off.
Beyer 7 - few nice runs again - the odd mistake with the ball
Maatsen 6 - worked incredibly hard but not his night
Cullen 5 - thought he could have had more courage to play the ball forward more
Brownhill 5 - no faulting his effort but just doesn’t have the technical ability required to open doors
Tella 5 - looked a bit lost positionally to me
Gudmundsson 6 - would have started him in hindsight - lots of drive and guile
Obafemi 6 - looks a tidy footballer as well as pacy. Shame we can’t get him in the first 11 and give him a run of games
Vitinho 5 - no impact
Barnes 6 - was isolated and would have liked him to stand up to their centre half’s a bit more - got pushed around
Zaroury 6 - not his night
Benson 6 - got into some great positions but wasteful with end product

Somebody seems to be not really getting the point of a personal ratings thread.

Line up looked excellent on paper but thought we struggled as a team and was very average. For all the talent we have we are still woefully short in one position and in these tight games where we don't find it easy it really does show.

Not our best performance and as sloppy with the ball that we have been all season…but full credit to Sunderland who I thought were excellent with enormous energy from minute 1 - minute 96 which I didn’t think they would be able to keep up. Best pressing side I have seen at the Turf this season by a mile. They fully deserved their clean sheet and point.

As everyone has said, Sunderland had a plan as to how to nullify us and it worked to perfection and was aided and abetted by us having a very poor night by our own exacting standards. I couldn't work out how Sunderland could keep haring about up front and pressing us constantly into our own half and yet always had plenty of cover against our long ball when they should have been exposed and they never tired and did it for 96 minutes. Our back 5 were unusually flustered basically from start to finish and struggled for time and space and I felt an accident was waiting to happen there, especially as Muric, uncharacteristically, couldn't find his longer "out" ball. Like most others I felt beforehand that JBG should have started and Benson come on later when he's brilliant against tiring legs. Ultimately I'm just thankful not to lose it and to add another point on the road to what will hopefully be eventual success!

Muric. 6 distribution lacking, and pointlessly pushing his luck.
Roberts.. 8 Looked up for it
Beyer. 8
THB. 6 Ponderous. Needs to get back on it quickly if he's keeping Ekdal out.
Maatsen. 8 Put himself about.. Hard to see a way back for Charlie now tbh.
Cullen. 8. Billy Bremner without the dirty stuff.
Brownhill. 6. Poor. He's best as a midfield scrapper for me..looks like a duck out of water out on the wing..defenders stood well off him, happy for him to be a wide outlet for us.
Tella.. 9. a cut above..got a kicking early on but didn't run away..needed better around him.
Zaroury.. 6. want to see this lad in the box committing defenders and causing problems.. Hes better than this.
Barnes..6. Poor. Well off the pace, and wasteful.
Benson..7. Heavily marked.. Unlike Zaroury.

It's only an opinion, but under Dyche we always looked better with Cork playing... I'm starting to feel the same again now.. Hes a level above Brownhill and JBG for me.
It wasn't a great night and we need to get back on it quickly if we're going to stitch up the title before the last couple of games.
