Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Shouldn't we be giving him a run out, if only to see what he can do?
Don't get me wrong, this isn't a go at Vinny's selection policy, heaven forbid, it's got us up to
the PL, and I'm sure we could make an argument for playing others as well.
It just seems a bit strange to be having him sat on the bench without really seeing what
he's capable of.
Mind you, where exactly he'd fit in and who you'd leave out might be another problem.
Would have loved to have seen him given 20 minutes or so last night.
Like to hear others thoughts on this.

He’s not even been sat on the bench.
When VK talks about the wingers and competition for Zaroury, he doesn’t even mention him.

When you sign as many players as we did, there’s always going to be a few that don’t hit it off right away and get a run in the team. Think we need a bit of patience with the likes of Churlinov.

He's looked a decent player when we have seen him, although a bit naive, and I agree needs a run out, but then we have records still to be broken.

It doesn’t seem like he’s having him at the moment - not sure whether that’s training issues, attitude, or just doesn’t think he’s ready, he’s not in the thinking. Seems a shame as he’s a bit different to the other attacking players and the Vitinho further up idea doesn’t work for me.

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
IF, and it's a big IF Churlinov isn't seen as the future, and I haven't seen enough of him to make a decision, then it begs the question how do we sell him on.
VK said in his interview the other day, that when you buy so many players, obviously some will not work. You move them on and improve. BUT if the programme is to buy players with a resale value, in order to make us sustainable, how do you make a profit on players who have been sat on the bench most of the season. They need putting in the shop window at some point. A dilemma no doubt.

I think once promotion and the title are in the bag then we will see some more minutes from the fringe players, not before.
Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
A winger or two is required in the summer. Good squad but been clear in recent weeks we don't have enough to change a game in this position. Especially since it's clear Tella is most dangerous more centrally.

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
I expected him to start at Blackpool away after a good cameo in the match before replacing an injured Zaroury.
But we haven’t seen him again since , I don’t think it’s a coincidence that at that time there was a German article saying he wanted to return to his former club . I doubt VK was impressed by that and seems out of favour since.

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Yes I think theirs a player in Churlinov. Perhaps he’s not shown enough in training. Tella was wasted last night on the left, that’s where Churlinov could have benefitted the team. Zaouray doesn’t seem the same player from a few months ago, he fades an awful lot. Perhaps a week back now will settle everyone.

he's only 22, new country, new league. Kalvin Phillips cost City 40 million and has been here all his career and hasn't been good, sometimes it just takes time (Grealish has been much improved this season for City).

The problem him, Twine and Bastien have is that none of them have done anything to make an impression at championship level. More than likely we won’t see any of them again in a Burnley top.

I thought Tella's performance massively improved when moved wide left last night. He was wasted up front not making any runs into the acres of space Sunderland left in behind.beddie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 11:58 amYes I think theirs a player in Churlinov. Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Not that I disagree (although perhaps harsh on Twine who’s missed half the season), but by the same account, you could say the same for Foster, yet you think he’s part of our first 11 and should be our PL striker. What’s the difference?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 12:45 pmThe problem him, Twine and Bastien have is that none of them have done anything to make an impression at championship level. Opportunities have been limited for them to make an impression because the rest of the squad has been that good.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 12:45 pmThe problem him, Twine and Bastien have is that none of them have done anything to make an impression at championship level. Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
All three players that have been mentioned have been here all season and struggled to make an impression.
Foster is perhaps falling into the same category. I personally think there’s player in there with Foster but unless he starts showing it he will likely be another one that’s going to need to be replaced.
Apart from the free kick for twine I just think he has looked miles off it. Needs a loan at a low level championship team to get minutes.

I think writing any young player off after 1 season in a completely different country or a completely different league is a bit silly
What I would agree with is that we need something different from the bench, and I think our two wingers are so crucial to the way we play that we need more options on there to provide it

Probably by loaning him out. If he impresses, hopefully the club he's loaned to will buy. If not he'll have out himself in the shop window. Same applies to all our fringe players who haven't yet proven themselves.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 10:23 amIF, and it's a big IF Churlinov isn't seen as the future, and I haven't seen enough of him to make a decision, then it begs the question how do we sell him on.

In all seriousness do you think a player that’s struggling to make our bench in the championship is really going to have a future with us in the prem?Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 2:06 pmI think writing any young player off after 1 season in a completely different country or a completely different league is a bit silly

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
I agree with Newcastle claret here, if Churlinov can't get a look in now what chance does he have in the Prem, after we've strengthened again this summer?
Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Would like to see him given an opportunity when we’ve beaten Bastards and promotion has been secured, probably at the expense of Zaroury who’s been a bit off it recently.

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
He's only 22, he doesn't look out of his depth, but he's behind Zaroury, and we have a very strong bench. I don't know how good he is, but he definitely doesn't look bad enough to write off.

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Isn't this one of (the biggest?) problems that our promotion is going to bring, a promotion which hearing/reading interviews seems to have been unanticipated by our management. Many of our players will be better, more mature and readier for the EPL by the end of the 23/24 season, but I suspect that they will struggle to reach the required standard by the end of this one. It'll make it much harder to stay up and in trying to do so could well impinge or even arrest their development.

What has Barnes got that keeps these players out? His goal tally, as a striker, is dreadful.

Yes he does need to score. He's missing chances that, if taken, would put us in control of games.
Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Work rate, leadership, hold up play; he has been an exceptional pivot for the way we play over the last 3 months. When he got hooked at Sunderland I was one of many who thought that was the end of bash; I was wrong!
Fair play to the guy, he would have been aware of the criticism and he could have thrown his toys out of the pram like many others do. Instead, he chose to knuckle down, support the team and work his ass off in training to learn a completely new style of play in the twilight of his career. How can you not admire the bloke for that?
Next season, who knows? He’s not stupid, prem football is hard and both he and the club will have to consider their options moving forward. Personally, I think he’s worthy of a new contract for next season for his experience alone!

In what way? He’s a striker who doesn’t strike. He missed a sitter (again) on Friday. He might have improved under Kompany, I agree, but if I did my job as well as him I’d have been sacked long ago.Muric Leggings wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 7:00 pmDosent need to score,Barnes has improved his game immeasurably under Kompany after stagnating under Dinosaur Dyche

It was a very good chance but not a sitter. Barnes has been a good player and I'm glad he's still here.

I’m in the camp of thinly Darko has something about him, but looking more and more likely that he will, as reports suggested , be loaned out in the summer at the very least . Not featuring in the squad at all. Add to that another summer of improved talent coming through the door and playing at an elite level he will more than likely be finding game time elsewhere .

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
I was overstating it a bit with ‘sitter’ I admit and he has been brilliant for us, but the operative term is ‘has been’. I said a year ago that he has become a parody of himself and, despite improving, he’s not doing what he should, scoring. Maybe I am wrong but I just can’t get with him any more. Sorry.

He's always been decent with either foot, IMO.
Still, right now he's doing his best and he's the best available for the role. The misses are mounting up a bit, though.

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Not sure Twine has been poor ..but aside free kicks he does not warrant a place in the team ...probably not even on the bench ...
Churlinov is keen but he missed chances at West Brom and I have not seen too much
Personally I would move both on to get one good player ...but we have had worse players and eventually either good come good ...
Football is a squad game as we know so I am sure they will get some game time before the end of the season but the first choice players will want to play ...so you cannot just leave them out and expect them to stay happy if churlinov and Twine are nor showing it in training

Barnes missed an absolute sitter.
He had a free shot from 6 yards out with nobody near him and put it over the bar. He chose to use his weaker foot, not realising how much time he had.

He was right to it first time on his left foot although it meant it was not an absolute sitter and he didn't have much time to do anything else. It was close range but not from 6 yards out.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 11:17 amBarnes missed an absolute sitter.

Re: Churlinov...Now We're Practically Up...
Yes, I agree, which is why we bought Foster I guess? It’s a shame Jay has been out for so long as he would be well in to double figures by now I reckon if he’d stayed fit. Hopefully he will be back fully fit for the last few games. Longer term it would be great if Foster can be become a regular goal scorer next year but I suspect we will be looking at a Gyokeres type of signing for the prem.houseboy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 10:00 amYou’re not wrong mate but surely we must have better options, or maybe not, I don’t know, but in the end he’s a striker who just doesn’t score and hasn’t done for two years or more. In the meantime, Barnes has been the best option acting as a focal point pivot type of striker enabling goals to come from all areas of the pitch. IMO he has been instrumental in joining everything together in attack as well as being useful in set play defence. Having said that, and as we all know, he is limited in terms of pace and his finishing of half chances has been poor overall. But let’s not forget what we paid for him because if he had pace and 20 goals a season in him he would have been snapped up by bigger clubs years ago! Fingers crossed he’s saved a few goals for b******s away!!

His hold up play, and use of the ball, is far superior to those behind him. I thought he was one of the few players on Friday who looked good. We just didn't find him often enough.
