A thought for all our past supporters

Post by ecc » Sat Apr 08, 2023 1:10 pm

Tears in my eyes as I think of my Dad who brought me up to be a Claret. We left Nelson when I was just two months old but there was never any doubt about who I was going to support. Likewise for my sons both born in France.

Thoughts for all our departed fans who loved this great club. To all our ex-UTC comrades. Eli, Spades, Lotty to name but three. This was for all of you.

Yes I think of my son who emigrated to Oz in 1999 but was at Wembley in 94 for what he described as the best day of his life would have enjoyed this season. He dragged me to Derby and Plymouth in 2009 but was back in Oz when we won again at Wembley and lived to see us back in the Prem in 2016. He would have been made up about the last 7 years especially the football we have played this season-and am sure the many departed clarets would agree if they could.

Good post, ecc.
I often think of my old man who died of a heart attack playing league cricket on Towneley forty years ago.
Went much too soon but, amongst other things, I'm grateful to him taking me to the Turf for the first time after the 66 World Cup win.
Never looked back really and it's funny thinking of what he'd make of how the Clarets and football in general have turned out.
The sale of Ralph Coates to Spurs nearly finished him off but he persevered.
I think he would have approved of the way Dyche and latterly VK and AP have steered the club on and off the field.

For Rocky, Barrie Oliver and Alan Beecroft.

and for Lenny Johnrose

and also for all members of our families and the extended Claret family, who are no longer with us, many who introduced us to the Clarets to which we are on the whole forever grateful.

Bitter sweet Good Friday. My son died on good Friday 6 years ago.
But he would be smiling at what this team has achieved.

Always my dad I think of at times like this - he was the one who dragged me to the Turf in the first place. But so many others who have been friends over the years, people such as Brian 'BoxCar' Lucas and Alan Beecroft.

Veggie Steve from Wolverhampton. The nicest bloke you could ever wish to meet, who watched us through thick and thin, when the thin really was thin, would have loved this season

Nice post, ecc.

I caught a glimpse of Barnes looking on the brink of being tearful last night and it set me off.

To think we’re about to start our fourth spell in the top flight after all those years in the lower leagues.

What’s been achieved is breathtaking, but it’s also an opportune moment to reflect on what has gone before us and those we’ve lost.

Lovely post. I gave a thought to Spades and Eli last night and more recently, a friend of my father’s and also Tony’s and a guy that has had a wonderful connection with the club over the years, Michael Chew.

Had a random Spotify Daily Playlist on on the way to the match last night and it picked a couple of my late brother’s favourites which really set off. ‘Taste’ by Ride and ‘Kill Your Television’ by Ned’s. He’d have loved this season.

RIP Matt 🙏

Cubanclaret would of been absolutely bouncing this season and I'm sure he's still been watching on at the Turf in the sky

Yes but that wasn’t ‘after all those years in the lower leagues’.

Really touching how much it meant to him in that moment. I know it's a cynical, money-driven game but there was a real fondness from Barnes there, he's had quite an impact on our weekends and social lives over the last 9 years.

He's not died obviously, but still.

Nice Post.

I always remember my dad pointing out Keith McNee in the Bob Lord on one of my first ever times on the turf. Neither of whom are with us. Both of whom would have LOVED a promotion charge.

Veggie Steve. His good lady wife Ginette carries his flag. He is still with us in that regard. Ginette does not miss a game and we still chat the chat about the fourth division days. Stevie McKriel. Legend

My brother George who passed on away in 2004 at a young 58.
He got to see us at Wembley vs Stockport and promotion out of the doldrums under Stan.
The last 10-15 years would have pleased him no end
Hey up, our kid. ☺️

Nice post ECC.

I'm remembering my best mate. Died 3 years ago aged 58. Born same street, next door but one to me and just 6 months before me. Went school together and countless Burnley games together. I still miss messaging him after games. He once described the football under Coyle as "Brazillian-esque". My , what would he be thinking about this current side we've now got .... which is leaps and bounds above anything under OC ! Feel sad that he never witnessed it. Lost my Dad last year too and he was a lifelong fan ..... but at least he got to see the 60's team !
