Race Across The World
Race Across The World
One of my favourite shows. Anyone watching this series? It's a bit different from the others as it's just one country, hand forced by Covid I believe. Some stunning footage of Canada.

Re: Race Across The World
Binged seasons 1 & 2, loved them.
This one I'm not so into, I think it's because it's just in one country, where they can speak the lingo, so to me it's not so challenging compared to the others.
I'd like the black father and daughter to win though, or maybe the two women
Can't be doing with the white father, I think he's a bit of an arse.
The other team, husband and wife, they seem nice enough.
I'm about an episode behind at the min.

Re: Race Across The World
This series hasn't grabbed me like the others for some reason, so I'm a few behind. Maybe it's the lack of transport options? When they're all taking the same routes it defeats the object a bit. Canada does look stunning though.

You'll enjoy this week's episode then when they go to Quebec and are challenged with speaking a bit of French!GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:58 pmBinged seasons 1 & 2, loved them.

Ladi and Monique to win for me too. He just seems like a dead nice bloke and she's gone from.lookomh like she'd never hack it to taking control.
And Kevin is definitely an arse and his daughter isn't much better.

Re: Race Across The World
Not as good as the previous 2 series but still a good watch.
Canada looks stunning but probably doesn’t have the same trepidation and obstacles that they faced in the first couple of series. Whilst Canada itself is like several different countries in terms of landscape, climate etc because of its pure size the race itself as felt a bit repetitive…..train, boat, hitch hike a lift or get a taxi etc !!
I agree on Kevin and his daughter - you can feel the tension that sits between them and whatever has gone on in the past in the family. Whatever they thought they might get in terms of becoming closer doesn’t look like it’s worked and they both have been arsey.
I’d like Ladi and Monique to win too as they clearly have a genuinely great relationship and he is a real role model to his daughter. The 2 ladies have been pretty amazing too though and I’ve really grown to like the Scottish couple Zanib and Mobeen. At the start of the series it felt like Zanib was going to be really hard work and Mobeen seemed like he had a lot on his plate. But they have both been great and last nights episode was revealing as to how tough things have been for them.

Re: Race Across The World
Agree with pretty much everything in VinnyK’s post above. With some of the checkpoints having literally one weekly ferry or train as the only means of getting there this series has lacked the variety of the earlier series.
Looking at the programme overall it feels a bit contrived really …I mean it’s pretty unlikely that a real race across thousands of miles of territory would come down to a foot race at the final checkpoint as has happened previously at least once.
The thing I enjoy most is seeing remote places that you normally only hear about but never see e.g. Dawson City up in the Yukon. I still want to go to Tbilisi after seeing it in the first series.

Re: Race Across The World
A good friend of mine was in the first series with his son.
Quite staged and borderline manipulated outcomes by the sound of things, unless he’s bitter because he didn’t win. Not surprisingly, a brilliant experience though and some real bonding time for them both.

Canada is the winner! I suspect there will be a significant increase in tourists.

I wonder if they'll spice the next series up by having the race go through Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh for instance.

Re: Race Across The World
Enjoyed the latest episode last night. Nice arc for Kevin and Claudia, who I warmed to a bit more. The other three groups have been easy to get behind from the beginning, and I wouldn't mind any of them winning. They all have similarly decent budgets left and there's always a few surprises in store for the last leg.

Re: Race Across The World
My favourite programme on TV, in one of my favourite places to visit. Lucky enough to have done a lot of where they had to go - Rode the train from Winnipeg to Churchill to photograph polar bears, sailed up the west coast, and into the great bear rainforest to see Whales, and a whole range of bears (Spirit bears didn't come out, so going back next year to try again), spent a couple of weeks on Vancouver island, and 10 days city living in Toronto.
Such a cool, friendly, laid back and beautiful place, and pleased the show has captured most of that.

Its on the list
Mrs LC went when we were still at the courting stage, because she had more holidays a year than I did
I'm not bitter about it at all, its only been 23 years since she did that

Wow, some brilliant places to visit and I assume some fab photos. The show's done a great job at showcasing Canada, some sumptuous droneshots etc.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2023 12:51 pmMy favourite programme on TV, in one of my favourite places to visit. Polar bear was years ago, just a bridge camera. Rest are with my kit now, 1dx Mk iii, and then either 300, 600, or 70-200 2.8 lenses

How you can spend £500 (Montreal) and and a further £150 on hotels when you’ve had a tent on your back the entire journey is a failure I dont think I’ll ever understand.
Unless there were laws preventing them from doing so. But Im not privvy to that

Re: Race Across The World
One of the best shows on TV is returning soon. Details of the new series have been announced. Beginning in Japan, ending in Indonesia. 10th April. Yes, it's a bit staged but which show isn't? Looking forward to it, especially after the "celebrity" one which I just couldn't get into.
