Lancashire League Cricket

Lowerhouse won in a tight encounter against Norden this afternoon when the weather was favourite.

A 24 over game went until the last few balls.

Lowerhouse top ?

Lancashire League 30/4

Post by Somethingfishy » Sun Apr 30, 2023 8:02 pm

3 out of 3 for Lowerhouse after a 6 wicket win over Norden in a 24 overs game. Takes them top above Burnley whose game at Rochdale never got going.

House the only side to play all 3 games so far. In contrast Rochdale and Haslingden haven't managed to register a result as of yet. A poor start to the season weatherwise.

Merged the two - I think the Lowerhouse game was the only one played in division one.

House went down at Enfield this afternoon. Chasing 240 was a big ask.

The highlight was Henry Cottam making 80 odd as opener. One to watch in the future.

Lowerhouse took the points against Hassy at home this afternoon.

The visitors looked well set at 60 + without loss but wickets tumbled.

House knocked them off without any real trouble.

A comfortable win in the end. No bonus points again though. It's a small worry that we aren't bowling teams out.

I very much doubt it unless the forecast is completely wrong.
At present it predicts 0% chance of rain next Saturday. Something to look forward to.

Real bug hear of mine the late reporting of results.

Ok there may have been a glitch in the play cricket but it’s not hard to simply ring Nigel Stockley and say “Darwen 207 -8, Burnley 141 all out, Darwen win”.

Regular thing with the play cricket unfortunately but it’s ridiculous that one of the clubs can’t message in the score.

To be fair to most teams PlayCricket has had many a technical issue this season, however Burnley aren't the best at live updating at the best of times.

Certainly not on this occasion but it's fairly noticeable how often the Burnley result is very late to come in.

Second time this season that it's been well into the day after the game. Given the ease at getting information out these days, it's pretty poor. On this occasion neither club bothered to communicate anything.

Not that I'm sticking up for Burnley or our Blackburn friends, but there's a hell of a lot that goes on behind the scenes on game day. Certainly for a scorer/tech helper.

A lot of the PlayCricket issues are centred on the Saturday games as the ECB infrastructure can’t handle the volume of stuff running through it.

We play Darwen this Saturday so be interesting to see if those issue arise again this week.

If they do, I’ll make sure someone calls through to Nigel and gives him the courtesy he deserves for the way he runs his excellent website.

There were two games missing yesterday - both in Div 1, can't recall what the other one was but the LL website did have that score available later in the day.

A top of the table clash down at the House against Darwen ended up with a thrilling finish.

Darwen got off to a slow start but not losing wickets. House were short in the bowling department and the fielding was well below par. Darwens opener scored 111 and was dropped 4 times. Chasing 226 seemed a huge ask and at 17-3 with the pro gone it was game over. In stepped Jack Simm and played the innings he will never forget making 90.

House still required boundaries from every over and Blez rolled back the years smashing the ball to all parts.

A bumper crowd went home well chuffed.

We were dead and buried twice in that game today. When they were about 140/1 with sbout 20 left i was gearing up to chasing near 300...and the likelihood of no bowling points yet again. Then before you knew it they'd been bowled out without somehow making many more.
Game on.....
No. 3 down in no time. Both openers and the pro gone. Someone unlikely needed to step up. Jack Simm...cracking innings. Firstly keeping the scoreboard ticking and then in partership with Blez..who himself rolled back the years.
Darwen will be wondering how they contrived to lose that.

I had to leave when we were about 80/4..but followed the live stream as i was getting ready to go out. Just saw Blez and Hawkey launching it and the umpire hands in the air. Can't see the clubhouse area on the cam but i can imagine it was bouncing.
