Churlinov to Schalke

Post by RVclaret » Mon May 01, 2023 1:09 pm

Being reported by Sky Sports in Germany that Schalke in talks with us over Churlinov. Year long loan with an obligation to buy.

Explains why he's not been around lately.

There was a link some time ago about Schalke wanting him back, he was there last season on loan.

When you make that many signings you are bound to have some misses

It would have been a miracle if all the signings turned out successful, but I feel there is a player in there with Churlinov. Injury set him back and it would be extremely difficult to dislodge the players in his position after the starts they made.

Good luck to him. Hopefully we somehow make a profit on him

Somewhat odd deal if the permanent deal is being deferred a year.

Good luck to him. Thought on early viewing he had something about him but he didn't get the chances he needed to prove himself. We need to free up some space in a squad that is currently a bit big even ahead of strengthening.

I liked the look of Churlinov but like has been said niggly injuries, and the people ahead playing fantastic football ... it was always going to be difficult ...

Good luck to the lad if he does move on 👍🙂👍

VK never really seemed to have him as a player, for whatever reason. Ah well, as above, these things can happen, and not every transfer is going to be a bullseye especially with the number we brought in.

He just got injured just as he was establishing himself didn't he. By the time he was back things had moved on.

Yep bit strange but might be a number of scenarios built into the contract around the eventual price.
Similar to our Beyer deal perhaps.
I know that our agreement that we could buy Beyer at the end of season was struck last summer - and that they had no say in whether we took this option or not. What I don’t know is whether there are different numbers for the final price based on appearances, promotion etc

Churlinov was the signing that excited me the most, although I'm not surre why.

He’s had injury problems but maybe he’s just not settled in the UK. Can be personal reasons as well as footballing ones as to why it might not work out for a player.

It was a big moment for him when he missed the gilt edged chance at West Brom, never really had a chance to establish himself, you would have to think that he didn't do enough in training to force VK's thinking.

Big chance at Reading too.
Thought he looked good at West Brom and if he would have scored that chance would have been great for his confidence.

For me when he got an opportunity I thought he always looked a bit rushed in what he was trying to do - possibly trying to hard which is understandable given the players he was trying to get in front of and wanting to be successful at a new club in a new league etc.

We needed a big squad with players challenging for their places and that’s what we had. There’s no doubt that competition for places makes players play better. And from that point of view all of the squad have played key roles.

Like most players though Churlinov wants to play football and there will be a few others who will leave if they have little chance of playing next season.

There's no reason whatsoever to be a negative Nelly at this point but £4 million for someone who doesn't really contribute anything must be right up there with any Championship flop. Fingers crossed his history at Schalke is going to bail us out of this one financially.

Think it was an initial 2.6m going to 4m with bonuses. Perhaps one of those bonuses included x amount of games played if promoted.

Loan with obligation to buy which gets us our money back is good business, especially if we get Ryan Kent on a free, that’s a replacement straight away

Real shame this one. He was the player I was most excited about in summer and it just hasn’t worked out. There’s a definite player in there, he just hasn’t had the run of games or the bit of luck needed.

Above all though, he’s seemed a really nice, humble guy. He’s loved by the Shalke fans so wish him well if it’s true, which I imagine it is.

I don’t watch the SPL regularly, but from the little I have seen and from what I have read, it’s a long time since Kent has done anything remotely suggesting he’d be a decent signing for the Premier League.

He’s an average player in an average league and if the comments on the Rangers forum are anything to go by, not the best attitude either.

Also really hope our sights are set higher than Ryan Kent but do understand we’ll need to sign some freebie’s along the way.

Huddersfield said Scott arfield was no good, Barton had so called attitude problems, tarky refused to play for Brentford, probs only took a minute conversation from kompany for Kent to buy into us

I don’t really buy the whole ‘not been given a chance’ viewpoint with Churlinov. He has played quite a few times and never looked the required standard. Stoke, Ipswich and Reading away he was abysmal and offered nothing (apart from a dodgy first touch).

As others have said, you win some you lose some - not all transfers come off. But Churlinov has been underwhelming at best.

He’s not good enough for the Championship on what I saw. The two longest viewings of him that I had in the flesh were away at Ipswich and Reading and he was very poor in both. Very eager but clumsy in possession.

As others have said above, you sign that volume of players a few will not be good enough. At least we have an obligation to buy included in this proposed deal as opposed to possibly having to loan Weghorst out for the rest of his contract here for example.

Would tend to agree with this. Shalke already know the player. No need for a loan deal. We need the capital from both Churlinov and Weghorst in order to help build for the PL.

Sepsis was a death sentence twenty years ago, much better now but still very serious. Hope he recovers full fitness, frightening condition my dad contacted it after a hospital cockup following a routine operation, he aged ten years in a week. Hopefully Churlinov is young and fit enough to bounce back

People with sepsis and the most severe form of it ie septic shock are often considered by medics to be the poorliest patients in a hospital with high mortality rates - too often a fatal condition still.

It's ultimately what finished my dad off 3yrs ago.
It reached the point of no beyond and they advised us that he wasn't coming back from it.

45 mins here and there isn’t really much game time is it? Form of Zaroury and Darko injured a lot meant he never got a solid run of appearances under his belt to find any form or sharpness

I had sepsis four years ago and ended up spending seven weeks in intensive care. Took me about two years to fully recover from it.

Awful thing. Hope he’s ok.
