Watt on Earth

Post by Rowls » Mon May 01, 2023 5:05 pm

This was a stupid children's BBC show in the late 80s and early 90s.

The protagonist was called Watt, geddit?

If you want to make a Watt/what joke today is the day to join in.

It is Mr and Mrs Watt who have joined up to the Clarets family with their US$
Imagine it might buy a new players left big toe given what is needed to get in better players is considered
Still better than taking out of the club

I think that the coverage Wrexham are getting shows the value of being linked with famous people/investors.

Hate the whole Wrexham thing. I respect the club and its long history. Their fans were still going before Hollywood rocked up in town but hate the media circus.

Well, its put Wrexham on the map, and in a huge way

Its what the smaller clubs have to do, to find an angle, to find a way in so that people talk about their club rather than the Big Six

And JJ Watt is a huge American football star*

*according to my mate, played both tight end and linebacker**

**I think that is what he said

Plays linebacker and gives the opposition a tight end. Superstar.

If ALK are selling their shares it improves the chances of the club getting back the £150m they took out. Which has to be good news.

Question is, are the Watts expecting a profit? Watt dividend do they want?

This could have a massive impact how we’re perceived in the states.

Another reason I’m shocked we’re not going there for pre-season to capitalise.

This is a very big deal for the growing of the Burnley Brand.

It opens up doors to a huge market, to bigger investment/sponsors and yes it will help sell some more shirts for those who used to like making that dig

Welcome to Burnley
one that could have been released almost 2 months ago - when it was recorded

from a branding perspective this connection is great one for the club and ALK/VSL

Interesting how this differs from Malcolm Jenkins - 'I am investing in ALK Capital'

most interesting of all is the timing of this release of the news

What do you find interesting about the timing?

Because they maybe had doubts unless we reached the Premier League?

The interview was recorded immediately before Burnley v Blackburn in November. That's nearly 6 months ago.

Why sit on it for so long? Because it's a much bigger impact to introduce JJ and Kelia as investors when the club has won the Championship and returning to the Premier League in no more than a handful of weeks time.

This is Exciting Times.

Timing is just ahead of the publication of BFC's accounts. When the accounts are published we will learn something about the "events after the balance sheet date."

Already acknowledged the profile aspect - it is great

it will be interesting to see where the money goes - Mr and Mrs Watt have almost certainly bought a stake in Velocity Sports Partners LLC - their were shareholders in that partnership already - they will have had to give up a proportion of their holding, have they received compensation for that - possibly not,

Is the money going into the club? if so how?.

Nothing wrong with questioning things or even the odd bit of cynicism CP but when they have already been quoted as saying they have invested in Burnley FC then it’s pretty safe to say the money is going into the club !

All the other questions will be answered in time around how much, nature of investment etc but it’s hard to see this as anything other than a positive move for the club.

Great news and as others have said very interesting timing. That one of the videos was recorded 2 months ago (but not Watts own comedic take on his own Twitter today), it suggests to me the deal was done but a couple of things may have needed to be sorted first at the business end of things.

I expect this to be the first of several business announcements and I’m also expecting the accounts to drop in the very near future, with post balance sheet events an interesting thing to look out for, as said above.

Let us hope so - but that is not the way of most ownership groups that follow the model employed at our club go about their development - witness the huge investment of Redbird in FSG

If money does reach the club - will it be a repayment of related company loans, new shares. or a loan. Of course it is unlikely we will ever know the size of the actual investment the Watt's of made.

Worth adding that the size of this investment is unlikely to shift the dial. Watts jokes himself about not being in the Ryan Reynolds bracket and a Google search suggests something like $50m wealth, so the amount put into the club, the holding vehicle, whatever, is unlikely to matter much.

What matters is brand advancement, advice, input, positive vibes and Burnley seeming like a really good place for high profile people to be involved. I’d also suggest this will be huge for the women’s team and that side of our game in England remains in its infancy compared to the US with lots of dosh to be made.

I wonder if JJ’s wife’s Utah connections have anything to do with this.
