That depends on whether wingers are also going out.

It’s like Warnocks obsession with strikers all over again.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Daramy is almost certainly the Tella alternative.

Tella alternative maybe? He’s able to play wide or through the middle/ish from what I’m reading.
Ajax fans do not rate him and are happy at this news.

Or perhaps VK intends to instead utilise some of these lads in midfield? Perhaps a bit less physical than we're used to in the middle, but they'd be a lot faster than we're used to.

Anyone remember to song ‘The Man from Laramie’? don’t think many on the Cricket Field Stand will.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The ones replying to Romano’s tweet are heavily weighted towards the negative (that’s all I was referencing).
From what I can gather he tore it up in Denmark, moved to Ajax and only played 12 league games/struggled and then returned back to Denmark on loan and was excellent again. He only turned 21 in January so clearly bags of potential and might just need to re-settle again.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I may be in the minority but I think we do need a bit more in the wide forward areas and if a good deal comes up then we should go with it.
Not a chance Gudmundsson and Twine are wingers in a Kompany team so I'm not counting them. Churlinov is injured and won't feature much anyway. Bruun Larsen, in my opinion of course, will play a tad more centrally. A bit like Gudmundsson did with aplomb against Middlesbrough.
Last season, wingers were pivotal to how we played. Our wingers stretched the pitch, proper chalk on boots stuff. And Kompany likes/d changing his wingers in game.
So that leaves Benson, Zaroury, Redmond and Koleosho.
Three of those have never played in the Prem and one of them has never played in England and barely in Spain.
It may not be as important as central midfield and left back, but transfers don't always go through in order of importance. It's definitely, in my view, an area where we need more depth.

If we sign all these wingers for next season then we'll definitely be flying high

Yeah. Doesn’t look like he’s ever been given a chance by Ajax. 3 assists and 1 goal from just over 2 90s but shipped back to Copenhagen on loan last season so probably happy to get their money back or close to given they just signed Borges.
Slightly O/T…
But personally would prefer Tella but purely because of the affinity from last season. Maybe he kicks up a fuss if it looks like we are forced in another direction
Although part of me thinks (/hopes) Tella scenario pans out like Obafemi. Could see him unhappy behind the scenes, not scoring much at all as Martin deploys him differently, ending up on the periphery whilst the Saints fans get in a huff and we end up with him a lot more cheaply in January as a replacement for Zaroury/Benson when one of them lights up the PL and gets picked off by one of the big boys.

This lad from Ajax has to be instead of someone, no way we sign this lad and also:
Townsend - free
Odobert- 9mil
Tella - 12-15mil
With only churlinov leaving

This season's start certainly feels like last season in that it's probably going to take a few games to work out who is who and who does what.

You may be right.
I wouldn’t be so quick to rule anything just yet.
We presumably need to recoup some money and trim the squad down somewhat.

Hardly surprising he couldn't settle in the Netherlands the Dutch are, apparently, notoriously difficult to get on with.jedi_master wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 6:39 pmThe ones replying to Romano’s tweet are heavily weighted towards the negative (that’s all I was referencing).

Not being racist but can we sign a few with British type names ,only just remembering Bastien from last season, perhaps names like Fred.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It's worth noting that last season we were playing with 4 "wingers" in our system with them taking up LM RM AM and CF positions. To do similar and to have sufficient cover we need 2 for each position and then maybe a couple of extra so we don't end up in a pickle with an injury or two. It'll be a refreshing change seeing genuinely good players on the bench that can make a difference
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Sorry if this has already been discussed but I learned that Troyes where we're getting Odobert from are a part of the City group. It's pretty clear that City are happy to use Burnley as a sort of finishing school with all the connections, the manager, the two GK's, THB, CJER, the links with Delap last year, some other fringe City players this summer. There's clearly lots of communication between the two of us. Wonder if this City-Burnley link has influenced the Odobert deal.

I can only assume more loans. Unless we have suddenly found a multimillion pound investor that can throw 10s of millions at it.
Could be a bit of a bet the ranch play.
At this point all we can do is enjoy the ride and hope everything works out

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Well so far we’ve spent around £47m. Wage bill for this season should be in the region of £60-70m. Commercial revenue is suggested to be higher than ever before at £14/15m. Operating costs were around £19m in the PL last time. Doing some back of fag packet maths that leaves around £50-60m from the £135-145m expected total revenues this season. So purely from a future income / expenditure perspective it works out (for now).
Then you consider of that £50m (let’s round up cause of agent fees) spend so far, only around a quarter of that is upfront, so in cash flow around £12.5m goes out. We’ve received a fee for Bobby Thomas and might yet sell another player here or there. Perhaps there was even some cash left over from last season, or perhaps there’s been some extra investment into the ALK investment vehicles, but of course those two points are speculative.
