I'd be happy with Redmond. Played plenty of games in the Premier League and we need more options wide left.

Redmond turned in some good performances for Besiktas too by most accounts but then so did you know who…anyway, he’d be a shrewd signing imo.

Redmond would be a good addition. Solid Premier League pro, tonnes of experience, good work rate and good pace. Famously rated by Guardiola per their spat a few years back. Certainly an upgrade on Ryan Kent.

Redmond would be a very good addition imo. He's proven in the PL, still a decent age and he's out of contract. I've always been relatively impressed when I've seen him play as well. I hope there is something in this.

So why did he go to Turkey - money ?
29 years old so a "quick fix" rather than future investment

There’s still value to signing free agents with premier league experience especially if we know we are going to have to spend most of our funds elsewhere, for example kompany might want 2 wide players, one being tella which will cost money so he might have to look at a free agent maybe

I’m open to a return.
Sure there’s a few goals missing right now, but our style of play where we aren’t relying on just one or two players to bag all the goals will suit his game I think.
Of course he will also have to deal with all the bullshit from the stands regarding his “bad attitude” but he’s a big boy, and that will disappear after a couple of decent performances.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Burnley are keen on signing Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested the 2022 signing from Fulham could go on loan in the 2023-24 season in the next stage of the 20-year-old’s development.

Burnley are keeping tabs on Carvalho’s situation ahead of the summer window opening – and are open to both permanent and loan options.
The Clarets are in the market for an attacking midfielder capable of playing in several different roles.
It is believed Vincent Kompany is keen to add cutting edge in the final third to his side ahead of their return to the Premier League for the 2023-24 campaign.
Speaking in his last pre-match press conference of the season and quoted by This Is Anfield (26 May), Liverpool boss Klopp admitted there is a “possibility” of Carvalho exiting Anfield on loan for next season.
The Portugal Under-21 international, who signed a five-year deal with the Merseysiders last summer (2022), has made 22 appearances across all competitions – scoring three goals.
Just eight of those outings came as part of Klopp’s starting lineup.
Liverpool were attracted to spend a reported fee of £5million plus add-ons for Carvalho in 2022 after his impressive breakthrough at Fulham.
He notched 11 goals and eight assists across 38 appearances for the then-Championship side in the 2021-22 campaign – his breakthrough season in senior football.
According to FBRef, Carvalho earns a wage of £40,000-a-week at Anfield.
Burnley are plotting to sign major reinforcements as they bid to consolidate their Premier League status in their return to the top flight next term.

He’s said it’s his dream to play in the Prem, while we should have plenty of transfer budget flexibility this summer already thanks to this years heavily reduced wage bill.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 9:21 amNo?
I’d love to see what he can do in the prem along with others . One or even half a good season and his price tag will be huge
And yes agree - very excited to see if he can terror Prem defenders like he did in the Champ.

I had seen his comments about it being his dream to play in the prem .
But Champions league and huge clubs like Milan, Dortmund Inter and co would be hard to turn down .
Benny isn’t 21/22 either he’s further in in his career. Fingers crossed we get another good year from him

Interesting one Benson. He's 26 now, so 27 next summer. That's about the point players' values begin to decline, and so there's a reasonable argument that of all our assets he's the one you might be tempted to cash in on this summer.
Of course if he had a stellar season in the Premier League, he'd probably be worth more than he is now even allowing for age. But even if he does fine, I think its quite likely his peak value might have passed.

I think we’ll always need some players who are at their peak in order for us to stay in the premier league and can’t look at every player from a sale perspective else we might not stay there very long and lose out on £100m+ tv money.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 10:10 amInteresting one Benson. I thought the same about selling Tarky with two years left; easy to look at the money and think we can’t afford to say no but ultimately the biggest financial prize is maintaining PL status and that’ll require us to both buy and retain some players during their peak.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I get that logic and it is seductive but it doesn't work, and the logical conclusion of the argument is not to sell your best (and most saleable assets). We should have sold Tarkowski, and in the end the wages it took to keep and and keep him happy undermined the "it costs more to sell" argument.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 10:16 amI think we’ll always need some players who are at their peak in order for us to stay in the premier league and can’t look at every player from a sale perspective else we might not stay there very long and lose out on £100m+ tv money.

Yes, you always need a Ben Mee - a solid PL Pro, who isn't there to be sold on because he's not quite at the level. But Benson is an eye catching winger and they are saleable assets. We've got to be hard headed about this and if a Champions League level offer comes in, we'll have to give it serious consideration. Apart from the sheer economics, the pitch to players we want to sign is "prove yourself here and its a stepping stone to the next move". That isn't credible if you double back on the logic at the first test of it.

Benson will be worth considerably more with a successful PL season under his belt, despite age. He is also one player who looks as though he will be capable in the Pl or certainly offer us different than our other players. If we are trying to be successful we’ll need to keep him at least for next season.claretspice wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 10:10 amInteresting one Benson. He's 26 now, so 27 next summer. Can only repeat what I said. I think the threshold for his season to be sufficiently successful that he's worth more as a 27 year old than he is now is quite high. The model depends on us banking value and giving players the stepping stone when the chance presents itself. That can mean difficult choices.Boss Hogg wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 11:21 amBenson will be worth considerably more with a successful PL season under his belt, despite age. Benson's sale to a CL club might easily pay for (the 2+ years younger) Tella to sign permanently and for a younger replacement in the impact sub role and who can join the conveyor belt. That has to be considered seriously.

The gamble, if you like, is having the confidence in Benson (or indeed others) to push on again this season.
What Benson’s value is now, I’m not sure, but a decent season would surely see his value increase again. He becomes less of a risky signing for others if he has proven his worth at a higher level, even if he is a year older.
Either way it’s a gamble.
Sell now and he goes on to have a great season at a new club and we are kicking ourselves on two fronts; the first being that he’d have been an asset on the pitch, the second that his value would rise.
The other side of the coin being that he may not have a great season and yes, his value has then perhaps peaked.
If I had to nail my colours to the mast, I think that despite his age, there is still sufficient potential there to see his value increase, particularly when we factor in the bonkers money that some are prepared to pay.

Re Benson, I would think one very decent season in the PL next season and sell next summer for £25-30m at the age of 27.
As long as he creates a few goals and scores a couple of worldies next season there will be a good number of clubs willing to pay significant money for him imo.

If Benson leaves and does well at one of the clubs he's being linked with we aren't kicking ourselves at all, we're saying there's plenty more where that came from, come and pay big money for our players.
The model is to sign players cheap and sell them expensive. Fans getting antsy at the idea of selling them will need to quickly come around.

I'm less sure, not because I don't rate Benson as highly, but because I'm less convinced clubs pay top dollar for 27 year olds without a them having been more than 'decent'. It may be a false choice, but if selling Benson releases the cash to spend 15-20m on Tella I think it's a reasonable bet that his value would appreciate more than Benson's. I think that's the equation to be considered.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 11:53 amI get you point here, Spice.

The other factor is to look at this in overall context and not focus solely on one player. Next summer, Zaroury is probably already ear marked for a move. He's young enough that he can flatter to deceive a bit next season and still achieve a big sale price based on potential. And realistically you wouldn't want to have to replace both in the same summer.

It already seems that if the lad stays, he is going to be the scapegoat for poor performances/results.
I don't like how things panned out as much as anybody else, but if he wears our claret and blue shirt next season I'll back him as I would any other player.

Some of our posters would probably reject Messi because he is too small for PL, whatever that even means.
