Can only agree with Spice here
This is a new model we have, and that involves selling players when big bids come in

Benson won’t want to stay if AC Milan, Dortmund etc come calling. In truth, he can’t say no.
Personally, I’d cash in and like Spice says, add depth and value to the squad with the proceeds.

Suggestions I read of loaning out Twine and selling Benson seem strange to me when both are well known to VK who knows only too well the dangers they will pose to a lot of PL sides next season.
It seems like a computer game approach to me

What would we get for Benson? £15m? £20m?
How much would it cost us to replace him now with someone who can do what he does?
I’m not sure we’d come out of those transactions with much profit.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Whether that’s right or not I don’t know. Are you as sure that any of these other ‘ Bensons’ that you know will settle as well as our Benson?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
1. Benson already said his 'intentions' are to stay as he would like to play in the PL. I don't expect him to want to leave for that reason, and we'll demand a lot of money because he's less than 1 year in to a 4 year contract.
1.1. Wages could persuade him but I personally doubt AC Milan would throw that much at him. Just my opinion though.
2. I think there is still more work to be done before we become a 'sell-at-will' club. For this season at least we shouldn't worry about losing top players unless obscene bids come in (see kv kortrijk thread).
"Monitoring their situation" could just mean if we sign a winger and it looks like he is moving down the pecking order, they'd throw a bid in.

Crikey there is some real Fantasy Football going on here today.
I suspect that Kompany will have a big say in who gets sold and I’m sure after saying no to interest from elsewhere he won’t want to lose players of this calibre. Benson won’t be going for 12 months I am sure and Zaroury not for 24 months.

Seems odd that all the links to Benson are from European teams but none in England.

The whole Benson is leaving saga comes from Ekrem Konur who is not a reliable journalist at all + I always think that reports linking several clubs with one player are pretty much a guesswork.

Ekrem is reliable but ok. Benson isnt leaving though all it states is people are interested and they probably are but nothing will happen this summer.

£30million? We sell. Assuming the player wants to leave of course.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If Benson scores a few goals in the Prem like he did at the end of last season his price will rocket,& perhaps sell in Jan ,let’s build a team, then replace one ,or two ,don’t wreck the team before we’ve built it.

But if he doesn’t, he maybe regarded as a “busted flush” at least in the PL and the value drops. Right now his value is all in potential. And that’s running out because he’s 26. If that caliber of suitors is true, being that Man U paid 75?m for Anthony, also unproven in the PL, then I think Pace (who hardnosed allllll the suitors last year to sell Max for 17m up front) will get something beginning with a 4.

Cornet who is younger and scored nearly the same amount of goals as benson (in a higher quality league) was only worth 17m. Why would Benson be worth anything remotely close to 40m?
In reality I suspect something close to the 15m mark is more representative of his value.

Didn’t Cornet have a release clause?

Benny is crucial to our success and is a priceless asset
Why our "fans" are keen to sell on our best players is a mystery. Selling him for peanuts as has been our style in the past has to stop .I understand the book balancing exercise but salea are unnecessary with our promotion largesse. £15m is the sort of fee I'd expect from Coventry if they want Luke McNally

Other than Pope, who we'd no choice with, I don't recall a habit of selling players for peanuts.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 7:47 amBenny is crucial to our success and is a priceless asset

I don't think any fans are keen to sell him, but realise that at some stage, with the model the club are working to, one of our valuable assets will be sold, fortunately the manager is on board with this way of working and will no doubt unearth another player to take his place and add value to.

We will never get that kind of fee from Coventry. We need to start being realistic about fees.

Luke McNally was outstanding yesterday
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He was that good his value multiplied by five times in just one game
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He was fine, nowhere near outstanding.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Thought McNally was pretty poor on the goal. Sold by a pretty simple touch and lost balance.
He was fine in general play but got beaten by Gyokeres a couple of times.

He was ok. If anything I think it highlighted he needs more game time and experience at championship level. He needs a loan next season.

Who would you say you’re a considerably better and less money than Gyokeres mate? He has one year left on his deal which means he won’t warrant as high a fee as Coventry will say they want and he has 30 goal contributions this season

I thought he had a very good game - lots of blocks, tackles, headers that sniffed out danger. Got caught for the goal although not sure the cross should ever been allowed to reach that man.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 8:30 amHe really wasn’t.

I’d agree a loan is best, absolutely not a cheap sale. From what I’ve seen of McNally at Cov - who’ve had an unbelievable defensive record since he joined - he’s got potential and we all know the best Champ defenders can go for £12-£15m so I’d loan him, get a full season under his belt and see how he gets on.
Although wouldn’t be unhappy about him rejoining us and being one of our four.

Well given it’s been reported numerous times that they want 25m for him. Aliaga (26) for Vicente. He has a 1 in 2 record across two seasons. Available for around 8m in the last year of his contract.
Raul Garcia (22) for Miranda, has 28 goal contributions this season and the club are desperate for money. Rumoured to be available for around 6m
Douvikas (23) for Uterecht, 23 goal contributions in 30 games. Rangers are currently targeting him for 4m move.
Dovbyk (25) for Dnipro, 29 goal contributions in 27 games. Contract is up in December. Available for 4m.
You could nearly get all of the above for what Coventry are rumoured to want for Gykores.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
That's the reality, our MO clearly stated by Mr Pace, is to find and develop players and sell them on at a profit and Vinni is fully on board with it. This means no reasonable offer will be refused for our better players and Benny will go if the price is right. As Spice points out, that money can then be reinvested in further signings. No fan wants to lose their best players and every sale will be controversial, but it's something we'll have to live with.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 5:07 pmCan only agree with Spice here
This is a new model we have, and that involves selling players when big bids come in
Just on Benny, and playing devil's advocate here, just how crucial to us is he ? 11 goals was a massive contribution from a wide player, his 4 in 4 got us over the line, but he only started 14 out of 46 league games and came off the bench, to great effect usually, 19 times, but how crucial to us was a player who only started 14 games ?
I only ask.

Completely on board with player turnover for club profit and reinvestment.
That said I'd be gutted to lose Benny so soon. Probably the player I'd like to keep hold of the most. Feel he'll still win us games on his own in the PL, and as there's less games he may play a higher proportion of minutes over the season.

It was reported we wanted 40mil for pope with one year left and he was sold for 10mil, just because it’s reported they want 25mil doesn’t mean they will get that. Gyokeres says ‘I’m not signing a new deal and will leave for free at the end of the season’ Coventry will be lucky if they get more than 15milNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 9:22 amWell given it’s been reported numerous times that they want 25m for him. I think £15m tops for Gyokeres, based on previous very good strikers from the Championship moving to the PL, and few of them have been runaway successes other than Watkins in the last few years

He seems to have missed substantial portions of some seasons but why? Injury, form? As some have said, at his age you would expect him to be near the finished article. Is he? Having missed a lot of games over that time maybe that's an unreasonable expectation. It can be said that, unlike Zaroury, he did make good progress, like most Burnley players.
Can we rely on these two as our 'wingers' in The Premier League? There's no proof we can but it is possible if they can raise their game further. Only VK and the coaching staff can have the best views.

I think this is it. To start applying this type of model now is the wrong way of thinking about it. We've just got promoted and the last thing we want at this crucial stage of our new life in the PL is to be selling players like Benson.ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 9:40 amCompletely on board with player turnover for club profit and reinvestment.

Two additional points :
Benson's importance last season should not be underestimated by anyone;
Any silly offer for a player would be accepted under any model.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Not selling Tarks was an out and out ‘crime’. With hindsight the money had to be re-invested into the ageing squad, that fell off a cliff.
Saying ‘dont sell your best players’ is not the right strategy. If we sell for profit, in theory, it should all be progression.
Even if that involves selling a few, and ultimately going down as a result of ‘new Benny’s’ bedding in.
But as others have also said, its so much better to have the replacement in the building before you sell.
Just like when Tarks came in for Keane once sold. It was fairly seamless.
