Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
A couple of the problems for any team like Burnley is that they can’t afford too many flops, and Kompany has done amazing with the high percentage of success rate of his recruitment ,also can’t have any characters that may upset the apple cart,I presume there’s plenty of background checks before signing anyone, wouldn’t want a Weghorst ,or Dele Ali type buggering things up.

We need a genuine striker. Viktor Gyokores for me. He's the best striker I've seen in the championship this year.
I think he would get goals in the PL.

Regarding Ryan Kent
Yes, he's been crap this season
But he was excellent in the season Rangers (Rangers!) got to the Europa League Final
As arise sir charge has already said, the recruitment team haven't got a lot wrong so far have they?

Agree with you about Gyokores. Really like his strength when holding on to the ball. Jesus does that very well for Arsenal, amazing for a smaller player.Hbclaret007 wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 9:14 amWe need a genuine striker. Viktor Gyokores for me. I would hope so, we definitely don't want to sign anyone with only one foot

It will be interesting to see how we fair with transfers this summer. For me, the Brighton transfer model is exactly what we need.

Them and Brentford. Although Brighton got lucky I feel with a couple of gems, but no reason why we can't make profit on the likes of Benson, Zaroury etc. Nobody will want to see them go but it'll likely have been part of the thinking when rebuilding the squad to get make sure we get value on the pitch until the time comes when it increases our sustainability as a PL club

Nothing new here really but seems we are still keen on Gyokeres:

No way Vitinho is better than Kent, once you get over the fact his Brazilian and the song, you realise Vitinho isn’t actually that goodShaggy wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 6:06 amYou think Kent is just a left winger? He’s been played across the 3 advanced midfielder positions, Left, Right and Centre.
Vitinho is better than Kent no question about it, as are our other players. He has very little end product and that’s playing in a poor league where the majority of the sides have League 1 standard players.

A lot of people want a striker, what about someone like Dembele at Lyon? He's out of contract in the summer, has prem experience and a decent goal scoring record.

I wouldn't be too sure about that. He only has 12 months of his contract remaining and it may help us if they want McNally who has clearly impressed whilst on loan there over the last few months. £15-20m bracket I reckon but maybe nearer the £15m price if we can involve McNally. Would be a great signing.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 10:49 amI suspect he will be well out of our price range.

If we can get him for 15m that would be good business but I suspect they will want significantly more.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think it was Alan Nixon who wrote a story about us wanting £40m for Pope quite late on last season (maybe even after the season had ended) - and we all know how that one went.
The general consensus from Cov fans and local media on social media is that £15-20m could be enough for VG.

Gyokeres has done well since being converted from a winger to a striker but to me he lacks that natural striker killer instinct to score regular goals in the PL

Sky reporting BHA-Milner move is almost done. It mentions us but says he has been impressed with De Zerbi (translates as the money).

He probably is impressed with Kompany but Tbf what De Zerbi has done is very impressive at a much better level.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 5:41 pmSky reporting BHA-Milner move is almost done. It mentions us but says he has been impressed with De Zerbi (translates as the money).

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I thought that we might have had a chance with Milner, if we were interested.
Partly the Man City / Kompany link and partly the location, meaning Milner wouldn’t need to uproot his family.
Fair play to him if he fancies a move down south with Brighton. A good signing for them and a decent move for him, at this stage in his career, to a club doing very well.

Shame though, would’ve been a decent signing I think.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Depends if we have a CB there keen to keep. With Ekdal and Al Dakhil joining, likely Beyer will be made permanent and Bellis in on loan again, McNally could be perfectly poised to get this over the line for us.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 10:49 amI suspect he will be well out of our price range.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There is nothing delusional about wanting the right price for your players. 40m maybe too high but 30m of anyone's money. You ask Newcastle, Newcastle. They'd go back and pay 60m had we asked for it now.

From what I have read McNally seems to have done really well at Coventry and I have seen comments such as "give Burnley whatever they want for him!"
Do you think he has a future with us? Not seen as much comment wonder whether the same applies applies to CJ Egan Riley?
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
If he’s done that well, I’d hope we are thinking about keeping him and growing his value further, as a minimum.Guller Bull wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 6:30 pmFrom what I have read McNally seems to have done really well at Coventry and I have seen comments such as "give Burnley whatever they want for him!"

Everyone has a price and the money could be useful - I just hope we don’t sell too early or too cheaply and live to regret it.

Not a rumour just players I think would make a good window:
Beyer
Harwood-belis
Maatsen
Tella
Otavio- left back free agent
Dendonker - cm who can also play cb and was at anderlect when kompany went back there
Lokonga - loan knows kompany style of play
Kent - free agent no brainer
Mike tresor - rumours kompnay already wants him
Sanabria - striker from Torino, good with feet and head and used to playing as a lone striker, Barcelona youth product

Unfortunately, £25 million for a top Championship striker seems to be the going rate nowadays. Hence why we may well look abroad for top talent and for a lot cheaper!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 5:36 pmLiterally every media post I have seen says 25m.

I said it at the time it was delusional. It still is now. Newcastle were never ever going to pay that kind of money. It would have trebled the premier league record for goalkeeper over 30. Pope is without a doubt a top keeper but no club would treble the record transfer fee for him.

As other posters have said I could see us using either twine or McNally (or both) as make ways in a potential deal for him.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
While clubs keep paying it, it’ll remain the going rate.
I don’t want us to be taking such risks on individual players (I think he looks a very good Champ player but have doubts about the Prem).
As Newcastle points out above, we could potentially use McNally & possibly Twine to help the deal, but only if they are loans. I think they’re the exact type of players we need to be giving Championship experience and keeping hold of.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There is no way Coventry would take any loans in return. They be getting far less money for the player and at the end of the loan period would have to hand players back.NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2023 9:30 amWhile clubs keep paying it, it’ll remain the going rate.

Watkins in 2020 went to Villa from a championship club at the time for 28m rising to 33m and I presume with his appearances, goals and around the england squad the add ons has been made so 33m and thats 3 years ago so the Coventry lad wont be cheap, stepping up to prem some work and plenty dont (Che Adams and Armstrong at southampton spring to mind)
