Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Hardly surprising clubs in Turkey would want him when he has proved he can perform there. A number of clubs would want him maybe just not PL ones.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
He can perform in Holland, Germany, Turkey
I'd argue that he can perform here, but he just can't score the required amount for whatever reason
The only thing missing from his game as a link up player really is goals and that is a real shame as I think he would be an asset to us next season in that role

I think if it was not for his attitude, and purely on his skills, I for one would not be opposed to him staying. His work rate, fighting back for the ball and pressing are motivational factors for our team

Imagine wanting a striker to continue playing for your team when he can't score goals. Unbelievable.

It seems odd thinking of weaknesses when we have just been the league’s top scorers, but goals from the centre forward position was one of them. Jay got a few but we know he scores much less at the top level nowadays.
In that context Weghorst is not the answer. We need other options, who will get 10 a season. Midfielders scoring will be slimmer pickings next season.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I'd completely disagree and argue most fans though he looked brilliant at holding the ball up and bringing others in to play, it's strange how when someone falls out of favour with the fans - there's an assumption that everyone and his mother thinks he was crap from the off. He wasn't brought in for his pace was he.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 6:20 amI think most were until his first half of football. If this was the 90s/2000s, he would be a brilliant Niall Quinn style player if he had a Phillips type prolific scorer alongside him.

Good afternoon guys.
Just joining in to say that when I've seen highlights of man united's games the established stars don't seem to want to pass to him.?
Not sure if it's because they don't rate him or just don't want to use him?.
Only short highlight packages I've seen but to my mind his teammates could have used him better and maybe he would have scored more goals than he has?.
Up the Clarets.

Too me the signs with weghorst were there straight away when you you looked and thought this guy is the only 6ft 6 striker who shrinks when he jumps

He was brilliant away at Brighton, the 2nd half against Man Utd at home too.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 6:20 amI think most were until his first half of football. Then nearly everyone and there Nan realised lorry’s turn quicker.
He's better than any striker we currently have.
It hasn't worked out for him at Burnley nor Man Utd, I think a season in the championship scoring goals would of been good for him.
Personally think he'd suit that role in this team it's made for him but I think he's burnt his bridges here

If you want the honest answer to that, have a word with Connor Roberts-I am sure he wont hold back and probably reflects what the rest of last season's team thinks about him. And have a look at the crocodile tears he showed at Turf Moor the minute we were relegated in front of the home crowd.I am sure there is footage on it. The next morning he was demanding a move to Turkey. Then there was wanting to see Alan Pace last season when he was dropped rather than discuss it with Dyche. As I say no question marks for me on his footballing ability but when you are a small club like ours punching above its weight you need strong team playersAfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 2:06 pmAnd his 'attitude' is in question because? Bad attitude because two players on opposing sides got annoyed with each other during an international.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 2:17 pmIf you want the honest answer to that, have a word with Connor Roberts-I am sure he wont hold back and probably reflects what the rest of last season's team thinks about him. He left on loan because we were relegated and in such circumstances, it was agreed he could do to fulfill his World Cup ambitions.

Or, he scores at a rate of 1 in 2 outside of England, 1 in 3 in his earlier careerdermotdermot wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 8:38 pmHe’s not really much of a goal scorer. Two for us and two for Man Utd. He still has TWO YEARS left on his contract. Who on earth decided to sign him in the first place?
At Burnley, he was having the ball launched at his head when we were told, and he said himself, that isn’t his game despite his height. That side also didn’t create enough chances on its best days. When you count yourself as a slower runner than the likes of Ashley Barnes and Dale Stephens you’re gonna have a problem in this league.
At United, he simply isn’t quick enough to get into the positions they want him to be in. He was supposed to be their plan B that ended up having to be their plan A for longer than they would’ve liked.
Hes scored goals wherever he’s gone outside of England, and that’s because other countries leagues don’t have that’s same level of speed and to be fair, quality.
The bloke and his profile are not suited to this league, unless you adapt your team to play to his strengths, which for us, was a risky strategy and he didn’t do enough to warrant giving him that level of responsibility.
Good player, just not right for how the game is played here imo. There’ll be a buyer, if we can get 5-8m I’d be happy.

12 million was the price mentioned by the press for Wout over a 3.5 year deal. So as an asset his value on the accounts is now 6.8m anything above that is a profit.
I'm pretty sure that when he was brought in he was seen as a bargain replacement for Chris Wood and the club never really thought about whether they'd get their money back, it was more about not going down. I have no idea how the payments were structured but it's possible that we still need to keep paying Wolfsburg for him for another two seasons. Now that he's over 30 I wouldn't expect us to get a massive amount of money for him.
I'm torn between thinking that his time at United has reduced his value because it's shown that he's not good enough for the Premier League or the fact that United were even interested means that he may be worth slightly more than he would have been if he's stayed in Turkey.
Looking at the German press at the time of his signing I got the impression that he has a reputation as a troublemaker which for me means he's not a Sean Dyche type of signing or a Vincent Kompany type of signing. I hope he finds a move somewhere else over the summer.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
His football has been fine at ManU apart from scoring. He takes the ball in well, plays team mates in, tracks back and wins the ball. As mentioned previously many times he has taken up excellent positions and they pass the other way.
I had no problem with him leaving to keep his WC place but I don’t feel he’ll come back. I still think we can get £10m for him.

Doesn’t seem to get on with anyone, even when he was at Old Trafford he seemed to be wanting to be in charge, and I’ve milk in the fridge that can turn faster than him, please VJ,give him a wide berth.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I can't understand anyone defending him sorry. There's a lot of players who can take the ball well, pass and 'work hard' who don't cost £12m and take the biggest pay packet from the club.
Nothing signals to me that he should play for us. I'd rather Foster had a chance but we all know that Wout wouldn't sit on the bench for him. He'd want every single game and someone needs to tell him that he's not good enough.

The difference between Wout and our other newer strikers is that at premier league level we know that Wout doesn’t score goals so any doubt is removed. Need to get shut.

So you've not actually had 'a word with Connor Roberts' or indeed with any of the rest of last season's team, instead you've made an assumption, based upon your personal interpretation of a few moments of TV footage.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 25, 2023 2:17 pmIf you want the honest answer to that, have a word with Connor Roberts-I am sure he wont hold back and probably reflects what the rest of last season's team thinks about him. It strikes me that the 'honest answer' is that you've got no more idea or insight into Wout Weghorst's attitude than I or most anyone else does; but hey-ho, who needs facts or honesty intruding when there's a prejudice that needs to be confirmed.

Over the last 65 yrs I’ve had my favourites ,Pointer rather than Connelly ,Geoff Nulty rather than Peter Noble, any many more ,but never really took a dislike to any of the players ,apart from perhaps Paul Stewart ,and an odd loan here and there ,but for some reason I can’t take to WW at all.

I know it's early and I know most links are just adding our club name, to make the magical 3 clubs interested that agents like, but we don't seem to be getting linked with any central midfielders.
Which is the most important position we need to strengthen if we are to play keep ball.

It is different this season as moving forward France Ligue 1 will only be 18 teams. So it is the bottom 4 in Ligue 1 relegated and only the top 2 in Ligue 2 promoted, no play offs.
