Everton SD Burnley Pace
Should he be unsuccessful in keeping Everton in the Prem, is it possible we could look at Pace's decision to let Sean go as not having any bearing on our eventual relegation?
I'm asking for your opinion because it's the nearest we may come to an answer to the question of whether Sean would have kept us up had he not been sacked.

We were gone under Yawn. He was responsible for our relegation. Mike Jackson improved us.

I think we would have been down sooner if we stuck with Dyche. It wasn’t happening last season at all.

I think our decision to sack Jimmy Mullen was vindicated by how poorly he did at Walsall.

We were always going down, although I did at the time think that Dyche deserved to at least see out the season.

SD did wonders for the club and I'd never criticise him for anything.
But the parting of the ways was the correct thing to do.

If Everton stay up, is it possible we may also have stayed up had he not been sacked?
If Everton go down, is it possible that we may have still gone down anyway, even if he had stayed until the end of the season?

The club were relegated twelve month ago mainly due to chronic under investment in the squad by the previous chairman.
The various parties involved have moved on,
Sean Dyche ( who did a wonderful job at Burnley) moved to Everton, Alan Pace and Vincent Kompany moved in.

Dyche did wonders for our club, but his trotted-out answer of him keeping us up wasn't tested, but that he thought he would is very convenient on his part - I think 99% of us know it wasn't going to happen. Pace threw the dice, and it was the right thing to do. As for Dyche "deserving it" (a different post) - give over, this is business, not sentiment - it's Pace's investment, and Dyche was an employee

Agree Dyche worked wonders at Burnley, and l will always stand his corner, lack of funds, aging squad, as for Everton, good luck to him, but i always think till a new manager has the chance to bring his own players in, and stamp his authority, he will struggle with a Lampard team, who was on the slide towards relegation, when he walked in the door!NRC wrote: ↑Mon May 01, 2023 10:33 pmPace was already in.

I am just interested if he can put to bed the myth either "he played that way at Burnley because of the capabilities within our squad" to "he cant play any other way then the SD Burnley way". After watching most of last nights game he can get a team playing a more attractive way but let's see.

Not sure about that…. He has undoubtedly improved Everton . I mean there’s only so much shine you can achieve by polishing a turd and the squad he inherited, with no chance of bringing anyone else in, means he was always being asked to work a bit of a miracle.

Re: Everton SD Burnley Pace
Everton last night was classic SD - if he can keep that level of performance up from the players, then he'll become a hero at Goodison and rightly so
But he'd been here for nine years, the squad hadn't been refreshed for years and it was clearly getting stale all over the club
A lot of that is the fault of the extended sale (no one at fault, its just not that easy selling a relegation battling small club in Lancashire to the right people)
Its worked out well for both SD and us, so why worry about it?

I know some shareholder's at goodison......and away from the bed wetters on social media, most sensible fans want him to stay, in fact he would probably be in more danger if he keeps them upVincent'sCap wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 10:34 amCome on Nori we are talking Everton here 2 promotions will mean nothing to them Dyche will be sacked and Everton will appoint Frank Lampard, basketcase of a club
Re: Everton SD Burnley Pace
Sacking Dyche early perhaps allowed Pace to develop his contact with VK earlier and therefore get him to the club, which has been of course the key to what has happened since which we've all enjoyed.

Re: Everton SD Burnley Pace
Feel like I'm in a straight to VHS low budget spin off of the Twilight Zone.
What he does or doesn't achieve at Everton has no evidential value on how he would have been at Burnley if he wasn't sacked. If Everton win the league next season with Sean Dyche, it doesn't mean we would have with him, so why would it be any different in terms of relegation?
It's time to let it go. Sean Dyche did a legendary job at Burnley, no matter what else he does or achieves in football and Kompany is well on the way to doing the same now. There is no need to knock either or compare.

Re: Everton SD Burnley Pace
As well as Everton played last night it really was “an all or nothing game” for both teams with a draw not really beneficial to either. Whether Everton perform like that every game I wouldn’t know, but I suspect not given that they are the lowest scoring team in the PL. A defeat last night might well have been terminal for both teams so they live to fight on another few weeks. It may well go down to the wire.kenyon6923 wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 10:13 amI am just interested if he can put to bed the myth either "he played that way at Burnley because of the capabilities within our squad" to "he cant play any other way then the SD Burnley way". I listen to the 'High performance' podcast this weekend with Dyche and Jake Humphrey - very clear that Dyche felt he couldn't have done anything different with Burnley in the final season, had tried every method and technique to squeeze an extra inch but they players had just lost the edge. We didn't look like we were going to stay up at all with him in charge.
Everton have a significantly better squad than Burnley had and i'm sure Dyche would have expected to do better

Re: Everton SD Burnley Pace
Some of the points on here aren't true...
While prior to Xmas the team did poorly there were runs after Xmas that were better than Mike Jackson. In the end, MJ had a bounce but we performed very poorly in our last 4 games, which was somewhat similar to Dyche. A decent run and then a poor run.
The problem was an ageing squad many of whose contracts were about to expire as a consequence of under investment from the previous and new owners.
Everton have only one decent striker Calvert Lewin and he has been unfit; other than that, Everton have a very mediocre squad.
VK will not achieve what Sean Dyche did for two reasons: firstly, if he is anything like successful a bigger club will take him and, secondly, what Sean Dyche achieved was about as good as it gets....

Should have qualified the last bit of my post - Dyche said that he fully expected he would have kept us up.....I was the one that thought we look destined for the drop
He also gave some interesting points re: new manager bounce. New players/people come in, on average people are on high alert for 4 weeks trying to impress, then after that they tend to revert to normal levels.

There's some bad players at Everton, and they'll miss Coleman's leadership. But I still think he'll keep them up, they'll win their last two and that will be enough.

Much as I loved Sean he wouldnt have kept us up. I didnt think Mike Jackson would but he had one helluva a good shout at it. Brave decision from Pace and a correct one. I heard a rumour that he had fallen out with the dressing room and physically accosted two of them. I am pleased to see Mike Jackson with a job with Vinny. Thoroughly desverved. Superb effort and we should have beagten Newcastle. But then again we couldnt have re built if we had stayed up costwise so the cycle was inevitable. Lets hope the re build and the age reduction and our superb scouting will hold us in good stead. I am proud to be a claret.

Jackson improved things significantly and still wasn’t able to dig us out of the giant hole Dyche left us in.
Anyone who thinks Dyche had any hope of keeping us up clearly missed games that season, we won one game in the first 6 months and some of the performances were downright unacceptable. Norwich away was a sackable offence on its own then we have the home game against Huddersfield where we got absolutely hammered despite fielding our strongest possible eleven
