Driving rants (max 2 per person)

Right off we go (I know it’s difficult but only 2 per person 😩).

What gets you proper angry when you’re out for a spin in the old jalopy?

1. People who zip around car parks at speed with no thought about pedestrians or other people parking up or emerging.

2. People who enter a busy motorway emerging from the slip road with (or without) indicating and fully expect to be on the outside lane within a few yards of entering the motorway

1. Drivers not stopping for pedestrians crossing the road.

2. Aggressive driving.

Not indicating at roundabouts. If everyone indicated properly then they would flow so much better. It's just ignorant not to indicate.

People who don't indicate on roundabouts even when they see you're waiting to see what they're doing.

People who drive with no confidence/overly nervous.

I do over 40k miles a year, so I see a lot of poor driving and I've got a lot of gripes about other drivers

People who drive in shitty little cars that make a racquet. I’m a petrol head and appreciate a nice sounding engine as much as anyone but loud is not good, especially when it’s a 2005 sh*tbox.

People who get right up your arse in areas such as 20s where there are multiple reasons not to go any quicker - including obvious speed cameras. If you weren’t “in their way,” they wouldn’t even go any quicker or they’d get done - it’s just the immense sense of power some sad individuals feel from being overly aggressive in a vehicle which can be lethal.

Crossing Church Street at the Kierby roundabout before and after the match is decidedly hazardous with drivers not indicating left as they exit the roundabout.

1) the sheer amount of people that don’t understand a zip merger and cause huge tail backs because the British love for queuing takes precedence over logic and the Highway Code.

I’ve been abused multiple times and blocked for utilising all available lanes before the merger, it’s really tiresome

2) ‘Tailgating’ - this one really gets to me because I can’t really do anything about it - it’s extremely dangerous and I don’t think some people know just how bad they’re doing it leaving just a few yards off the car infront.

Drivers who apparently aren't able to stop when approaching traffic lights which turn red. Red seems to be the new amber!

The constant din of banging exhausts up and down Manchester Road in Nelson is currently driving me up the wall.
Something needs to be done about these imbeciles.

Lomeshaye industrial estate roundabout & Gannow roundabouts particularly bad for this.

If I’m at the front of the queue sitting at the lights at the roundabouts I always take an extra half a second / second before pulling out and keep looking right - the amount of times I’ve seen a car wizz past flying off the slip roads is really concerning, will get someone killed eventually

1. 2nd / 3rd / 4th lane hogging on the motorway. It’s not hard, keep left unless overtaking.

2. Not indicating. It’s not hard you German car drivers.

Commuting to Manchester four times a week my two worse, out of many are:
1) Tailgating down the m66, especially in bad weather
2) Not allowing people in when lanes are merging. Once ended up on the hard shoulder of the M60 because of this.
The driving definitely gets worse when you hit the M60 Region

Point 1 infuriates me. But over 50% of drivers seem to do it. Some going about 60mph. Far more dangerous than someone marginally over the speed limit but rarely do they get pulled.

My second one is people driving with fog lights on with no fog in sight as though it's some kind of fashion accessory.

1) Groups of Motorbike knobs riding in a group with some wanting to pass on the left and others on the right.

2) Tailgaters flashing you to get out of their way when you have nowhere to go.

Tailgating.

Even worse. Tailgating on motorways when there are two clear lanes in which to overtake, yet they don't.

Signs on the back of vehicles saying, "this vehicle is limited to 70 mph". Surely, all vehicles are limited to this!

Signs on the back of vehicles apologising for sticking to the speed limit "...because I have a black box fitted". No one needs to feel bad about going at the speed limit!

1. More and more clowns on the motorway not bothering with indicators. Which is a recipe for disaster.

2. Bus lanes. How can it be deemed difficult but a heck of a lot of folk need to go to Specsavers as they appear unable to read the signs highlighting when a stretch of road is and is not a bus lane. As a result of these sight issues or an inability to assimilate basic information most people now have decided to ignore the info and never go in a bus lane at all. Bonkers

I saw someone on the M65 this Thursday doing 30mph in the third lane. The car was sporting one of those P plates and the person driving was totally oblivious as to why loads of cars were undertaking them.

Indicators are helpful but can also be a nuisance, lately I've experienced lots of road users forgetting to disable them I've flashed them to move over & they haven't & carried on oblivious still flashing, impatient drivers tailgating are my biggest bugbear I let them go when it's safe to do so because I know they'll end up taking risks & further away from me they are the further I'm away from danger.

Every 5th car driving at night with front fog lights on(deliberately switched on as running lights go off when headlights are on)
Traffic not keeping left on motorways or any multiple lane system regardless of speed or traffic.
Are you sure I can only have 2 gripes? 200 would be fairer.

I had some knob doing this on the motorway this week. I was in the third lane, overtaking, at the side of another car with another car in front. He was flashing away as he raced up behind me. Not sure what he was expectinge to do, but all it did make me do was slow down a bit and take longer to overtake.

Agreed!... Lots of drivers who should never be behind a wheel.

Since Covid the amount of overly aggressive drivers has gone through the roof here in LA.(male & female)

Last week two guys jumped out of their cars just down the road from us......one of them was shot dead....the road was reduced to one lane for much of the day, causing massive misery.

that's mental. I honestly think you could put 80% of the UK's drivers in America and they would be more competent after 1 hour.

I've driven across state in Tennessee & been a passenger in and around Austin, Texas

Nashville is pretty bad for driving quality but Austin is something else - absolutely petrifying

Also, being a pedestrian in Nashville is equally terrifying - the drivers don't seem to understand the concept of a 'Pedestrian'

It doesn't help with slow moving vehicles, I think the roads are just clogged up far too many cars on the road & with the all roadworks progress is more often than not slow, sometimes I purposely plan journeys to drive in the middle of the night but for most people that isn't practical.

It really is. I mean Austin itself has some cool spots but I thought I'd have liked Texas more but it's super, super aggro - at least from my own experience, seems like most of the populace are constantly on edge (probably because everyone is strapped!)

Yeah I can imagine that in Vegas, I was just staggered though for example at a crossing when the light is on to allow pedestrians cross, people will still turn right (I know you're allowed to on a red) but do it at full speed without really scanning the area.. As a pedestrian i'd slowly step out and really scan the area.

I will say nothing quite gets me riled up whilst driving like a group of cyclists. Making everyone slow down to their pace because they want to play out on their silly thin-wheeled bikes

The first in the queue at roadworks traffic lights who always crawls through at 10mph as if road is going to narrow to 2 feet wide and they might fall into said roadworks.

And has already been mentioned, use yer feckin indicators.

1. Not indicating, particularly at roundabouts.
2. Driving substantially below the speed limit particularly on roads where limit is 60mph and there are solid white lines so you can’t overtake.
