To be fair, it's been a nightmare for pedestrians at both junctions for years. Apart from that, don't understand narrowing Yorkshire Street so much.

On a more optimistic note, those temporary traffic lights on Briercliffe Road near the Baltic Fleet have now gone, and they've only been there a year...

Yorkshire Street has been fun this week. I had to walk down from Brunshaw Road just a couple of blocks above the Turf. By the time I got past the Culvert I'd had to cross the road four times.

On the plus side, the temporary, and hoc make it up as you go along arrangement which has for now replaced the old roundabout seems to be working a treat. I'd be tempted to withdraw all workmen and leave it as is!

The ad hoc roundabout is bonkers. The barriers should be low enough to see oncoming traffic from the right, without inhibiting the flow. It's like they were trying to replicate a closed junction after supping ten pints. I'd rather have seen the old roundabout tarted up and the trees left alone.

i especially liked the industrial strength floodlight shining in my eyes at 7am this morning in the rain, while trying to get through the roundabout.

I cant figure what they are going to replace the roundabout with looking at the road markings. I thought the traffic through the original roundabout was quite fluid so if they replace with Traffic lights it could clog the whole town up.

Agreed, the original roundabout always seemed to flow pretty well, traffic lights will probably be a disaster.

It's not about making the traffic flow better, it's about making it easier for pedestrians and cyclists.

There has been some progress, where they had gone back to 2 way traffic they’ve ‘progressed’ back to one way traffic

I drove through this afternoon and was stunned by the groups of LCC workers just standing around talking and pointing, it really is a jolly.

Only pass through there very rarely apart from match days. What annoys me is when I have been through in the past on a working day it has been hammering it down so I wouldn't expect much activity, however today when I drove through it was fine. I might be as sluggish paying my council tax.

For the past couple of nights the road has been closed from the club shop/PV towards the Wellington lights.
Coming down from Brunshaw Road the 'No Through Road' sign is the last one after the 'Diversion' sign and the 'Road Ahead Closed' signs.
The number of cars missing the first sign - Diversion - probably because of the number of road closures recently is ashtoning, all resulting in having to turn around in the road.
The blame for this is purely on the contractors running this complete sh*t show.

And to add to my post above, this is all about the 'pocket lining' between LCC, BCC and Groundworks Direct.
They're all in it together.

If they had to hand their mobile phones in before the start of their shift, they wouldn’t have anything to do all day. It’s like those jokers “ working “ on the M6 between Wigan and Warrington. Those works were meant to be finished “ Summer 2023 “. Still ongoing, nobody to be seen all day any day. Pathetic.

I suspect that the contract will have been awarded through a competitive tender, or through an existing framework; or a mix of both. It is very unlikely to have been a 'direct award' but it will be easy enough for you to find out.

'Pocket-lining' would be a challenging outcome to define in a specification for works...

You know full well an attack doesn't have to be physical. Motorists are being attacked financially and by increasing measures under the guise of safety and climate change. ULEZ zones, 20mph speed limits etc. Pick a side DA you coward. The hottest places in hell are reserved for people like you.

I struggle to understand why so many find 20mph in built up areas such a heartache tbh. Much less of an issue than say the 40mph zone on the dual carriageway to Morecambe.

In full agreement with you on this one. It's the bus diversion route for God sake, surely some kind of communication with Joe public is the least you expect.
