Schalke & Hertha Berlin relegated with Stuttgart in play off.
Darmstadt promoted with either Heidenheim or Hamburg with the other in play off against Stuttgart.

Re: Bundesliga
Just watched the last 25 minutes of the Dortmund game in a Portuguese bar full of their fans. Dreadful performance by their team.
Re: Bundesliga
Are we? Neville and Cara discussed this on MNF last week and they showed that United won the league more times in the first 12 years of the Prem than City have in the last 12. There have also been more winners of the Prem in the last 12 than those first 12. City are having this success cause of Pep.

Yep. Haven't city won 5 out of the last 6 now? They will win it again next season, no doubt about that. Both leagues are largely a procession.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 4:55 pmAre we? Re: Bundesliga
I wouldn't bet on that as they'll obviously bring in a top manager. And I certainly wouldn't bet on them not winning the league while he's still there, so at least 7 out of 8. Just as dull as Germany.
Re: Bundesliga
Incredible final day at the top of the 2.Bundesliga.
Hamburg thought they'd been promoted with a 1-0 win away in Sandhausen. Fans on the pitch.
But nine minutes injury time to be played in Heidenheim's game at Jahn Regensburg. They needed one goal to win the game, to push Hamburg back into the play off spot.
And you guessed it.
Hamburg will now play Stuttgart for a place back in the Bundesliga.

I'll be tuning in. The Dinosaur doing it the hard way again! Been to a couple of St Pauli games, no real allegiance but it'd be nice for the derby to stay in 2.Bundesliga. Although the way the brown and whites have played this season, they might have a chance of joining HSV in the Bundesliga soon if HSV make it.
I did a bit of reading into Heidenheim after yesterday. An impressive rise. Something like the ninth tier in the 1990s and haven't been relegated since.

Think their manager has been with them since 2007, navigating their rise from the 5th tier. Impressive feat!

First 'big game' I saw was Stuttgart v Nurnberg, possibly 1959. Viewed the game from behind the goals, sat on the grass between the running track and the goals.

Re: Bundesliga
Unions progression has been superb. Promoted to Bundesliga 1. 1st season qualify for Europa Conference league. 2nd season qualify for Europa league. 3rd season qualify for Champions league group stage.distortiondave wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 2:44 pmHoping for Union Berlin to claim 4th. They're at home to Werder Bremen and just need to equal or better Freiburg's result away at Frankfurt.
20 years ago they were in the german equivalent of the Conference North and only 15 years ago they were promoted to the 2nd tier, so getting Champions League football is some achievement.
First watched them in Bundesliga 2 when tickets were freely available. Now in Bundesliga 1 you have to be a member and hope for a ballot ticket. Gutted Hertha relegated, been last 3 Berlin derbies in Olympic stadium.
Hoping they use Olympic stadium for Champions league games. They are supposed to be playing home games season 2024/25 at the Olympic stadium whilst their stadium is being redeveloped.
Re: Bundesliga
Union are a great club. Incredible to see them overtake Hertha, who've always been the big money club in the city albeit a bit of a sleeping giant. I think the Bundesliga is the only league in Europe which has never had a team from the capital win it.

Re: Bundesliga
Watching German football is superb. The whole fan experience is far better. Been fortunate to watch games in 7 different grounds. Union are my German team, however if you ever get chance to visit Dresden and watch Dynamo Dresden, different level good.
Dortmund will be haunted forever by their result. I also think German football needed a new Champion as well. Union progression suggests them next season .

Re: Bundesliga
I don't do European Champions League but weren't Schalke in it not long ago, or am I imagining it?
Re: Bundesliga
Agreed. German football knocks the socks of football over here in terms of atmosphere and matchday experience. Flights are cheap, see a new city, make a weekend of it.

Step sons German pal Stefan took us on after I took him to see BFC v Hull back in the 90's when they came over to stay with us ... was hilarious trying to translate the swear words into German for Stefans non English speaking girlfriend (who was with us) although she did work out quite a few for herself
Re: Bundesliga
No game feels the same emotionally as a Burnley one, Burnley games are the only ones where I truly care about the result. But when I'm in a new city, a different country, one of the first things I do is check the fixtures. It's an immediate multi-sensory thwack in the face of what that place is all about. The colours, chants, food etc etc.
Football is a world language but with many accents.

Price increase announced for the 23/24 season here in PB.
Terrace ticket now €14,50 for adults, €7,25 for 15-17 and €4,50 for 7-14. Under 7 is free.
A terrace season ticket costs €217, 50 for 17 games.
Can't complain.

Mein Bruder was a season ticket holder at Union so I've been on 3 games I think. I want to say a 0-2 home defeat to St Pauli, a 1-0 home win vs Erzgebirge Aue and a 0-0 against Bob Dylan but I might be conflating a few different memories there.

Re: Bundesliga
Yep, have to agree.
Been stood there many a time whilst Paderborn are thumping someone 5-0 and playing sublime. All becomes irrelevant when Burnley are losing.
Even after 30 years away, it doesn't get any better.

First leg of the pro/rel playoff between Stuttgart and HSV currently. Stuttgart went one nil up with seconds on the clock, but have just missed a penalty.
Re: Bundesliga
Ended 3-0 to Stuttgart with HSV much to do in the return leg.
Elsewhere Brescia, big name in Italian football, look to have been relegated to Serie C for the first time since 1985. A 95th minute goal condemns them to the third tier. Brescia Ultras pause the game with a minute to go.

Re: Bundesliga
A 6th year for HSV in BL2, unthinkable given they had never been relegated before.
Massive kick in the teeth loosing the playoff after how they ended up there in the first place, that’s worse than BVB’s last day of you ask me!

Hamburg v Stuttgart 2nd leg this evening at a 19:45 kick off on Sky Sports, Stuttgart lead 3-0 from the first leg.

Will need a huge effort to turn that score around. Read today that HSV's average home attendance is higher than Man City's and Liverpool's.

16th highest attendance in Europe's top 5 countries (Spain, England, Germany, Italy & France).
Above the likes of City and Liverpool as you say as well as Napoli, Newcastle, Valencia, Lazio, PSG, Everton, Aston Villa.
In comparison Burnley are 95th on the list.
