Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
If Evertons ambition is to stay in the Premier League then Im not sure they could do much better than Sean Dyche. If Evertons ambition is to become an 8th-12th team and challenge for Europe then Dyche isn't gonna cut the mustard.
I guess the question Everton needs to ask themselves is whether there is an available manager who could can transform their mess of a club into a 10th place team because if not they might as well stick with the safe (but eternally boring) hands of Dyche

Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
They’ve had the third highest net spend this season and finished third, not really an overachievement.
Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
Definitely overachieved because looking at what's been spent over a single season isn't a great comparison because Newcastle's starting point was very different to the clubs that spend big.
Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
Dyche proved you can polish a turd.

Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
There's a different skill and quality between getting great results out of minimal resources and being able to deliver elite results when given big finances
Thats the reason why Guardiola would probably have no chance of doing what John Coleman has done with Accrington whilst at the same time Coleman wouldn't stand a chance of succeeding with Barca and Man City
To be fair to Howe though he's probably one of very few managers who's done it in every division from taking over a side in 92nd in the league to taking over a side backed by billions and has pretty much succeeded at every level
Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
Now then brother of Shaggy or indeed Shaggyease up.and consider this. Dyche took Burnley, a small club to 7th and then had no or very little financial backing to push on. If he gets the chance to clear out the deadwood at Everton and build 'his' team he and Everton will be top half Premier League- a result. Even institutionalised conditioned minds like yours might 'get' that. Oh and what a shame about your team.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 10:57 pmIf Evertons ambition is to stay in the Premier League then Im not sure they could do much better than Sean Dyche. Been a great season all round this one, got practically everything I could have wanted. Not generally arsed about any teams other than my own but if you're not laughing heartily at the godawful Leeds and the plastics of Leicester going down you're not a real football fan imo.

Ok, they’re fifth in the table if you look at spend over the last five seasons, and the first couple of those seasons would be pre-Saudi money. He had a much better starting point than most!
Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
He had a difficult starting point judging by Newcastle's league position at the time. But even if that was true I wasn't comparing them to most. I was saying that only finishing behind City, Arsenal and United is an overachievement because it is.

Dyche has worked miracles with nothing but like the clear example I gave Im not sure he has it in him to succeed at the elite level with financial backing like Howe has done with NewcastleStayingup wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 11:06 pmNow then brother of Shaggy or indeed Shaggyease up.and consider this. Dyche is an unbelievable football manager and an inspirational leader of people but could he transform Everton into a regular top half team then I dont think he could.
I know you are a little soft on him and get upset at anyone who isnt quite as enamoured with him as yourself but lets just agree to disagree and let time be the decider
Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
If Leicester had scored that penalty it could have been a different story. Some of the Everton fans want Dyche sacked tomorrow and someone brought in to build a team. None have suggested who though.

Football aside people's jobs & livelihoods will be affected it's no laughing matter, I personally wanted Leeds & Leicester to drop but no satisfaction will be gained they've gone because certain serious discussions will be undertaken very shortly on domestic cutbacks on the working class, it's not far fetched it's having a sense of empathy.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 11:12 pmBeen a great season all round this one, got practically everything I could have wanted. Your argument was he’d done well and his resources ‘weren’t massive’. That’s not the case, his resources have been bigger than 90% of the league.

I'm saying he's overachieved which he has. I wouldn't say his spend has been massive but that's just one dimension anyway - not as simple as that as we've seen time and time again.

Ok, well if you don’t consider £275m over two seasons massive then there’s not much I can do to change your mind. It’s beyond the wildest dreams of most Premier League clubs though.

Not compared to Chelsea or United for example. This season I think they've spent not that much more than West Ham, Southampton and Forest. If you can't see he's overachieved so far there's not much more I can do to change your mind. Everyone I speak to about it can at least acknowledge that. I note he was rightly shortlisted for manager of the season.

Well done Sean to keep Everton up but unfortunately I think they will look for a new manager now to attract decent player's to play decent football in a new stadium. But he did what he was brought into do and that was to stop up .

I’m not sure they have the money to attract decent players, they might want to keep a manager who can survive on a smaller budget. I suspect they might keep Dyche and he’ll go half way through the season when the natives are restless because they’re not challenging for Europe.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 12:01 amWell done Sean to keep Everton up but unfortunately I think they will look for a new manager now to attract decent player's to play decent football in a new stadium. Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
It was interesting to see Dyche emphasize the importance of getting his team through pre season. The season he took over from Howe he did OK but there were definitely rumblings of discontent from the Claret faithful. But after getting the group through a full pre season, we were the surprise package of the year.

I make it 21from 18. 1-0 win against Arsenal was his first game when Everton had played 20 games with 15 points.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 6:39 pm18 points from 17 games having taken over when they had 17 points from 21 games.
The one reason I really wanted them to stay up.
Over 38 matches with those last 18 games they would have been joint 12th on 44 points
Tremendous achievement.

A great job considering what he had to work with.
Sorted out the defence, and got a tune out of McNeil.
You couldn't ask more than that.
My gut feeling is, new owners will want new leadership, I hope I'm wrong, but nothing is as fickle as a rich kid with a new toy.

Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
Really pleased for Sean Dyche. He also suffered injuries most notably to DCL and had the harder end of the fixture list.
I think Everton deserved to go down but happy they didn't because of the Burnley connection. I also note that Mc Neil is taking a lot of credit for stepping up when the club really needed him.
If he gets backed I think he has the nucleus of a decent team there but desperately needs someone to lead the line up front because DCL is injury prone...

In no way a reflection on Dyche but I really wanted Everton down yesterday.

Interestingly Howe has probably moved his style more towards that of Dyche whilst at Newcastle. They're a very direct team with much less of the deliberate build up that Howe used to have.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 11:05 pmThere's a different skill and quality between getting great results out of minimal resources and being able to deliver elite results when given big finances

McNeil has been a different player since Dyche arrived. Re: Congratulations Sean Dyche
The problem is that the fans won't give a manager long enough so they haven't the players to play any one style. They need to stick with someone but it becomes so toxic that the board feel they have to sack them. Until they give someone a chance to build their own team they won't get anywhere.

That's very true until some Everton fans realise patience is key to any relative success they'll never progress, I personally think they want & expect too much far too quickly & that's unlikely to change, from the positivity I was reading yesterday about him some have already emerged out of the woodwork questioning him already, nothing like gratitude.Commy wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 4:52 pmThe problem is that the fans won't give a manager long enough so they haven't the players to play any one style. A few on GOT wanted him sacked today and someone brought in to take them forward. None of them mentioned who though. It's ok sacking managers but, as a few have found out, there aren't that many around to hire unless you go with no experience.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 4:59 pmThat's very true until some Everton fans realise patience is key to any relative success they'll never progress, I personally think they want & expect too much far too quickly & that's unlikely to change, from the positivity I was reading yesterday about him some have already emerged out of the woodwork questioning him already, nothing like gratitude.

Funny lot on there after some of the managers they've had in recent years you would have thought they'd be doing everything they could to keep him there to stabilise them for at least a season or 2, some are on about giving potter a go side by side I don't think 1 manager is vastly better than the other so can't see the sense in changing something that's working/worked for them to experiment with something else

You claimed quite clearly that Dyche "probably" kept Everton up whereas, in fact, he certainly kept them up.
The fact that you couldn't actually write what you meant to say is your problem and no one else's.
