House make it 3 in 3 for the weekend.
Joint top with Burnley who also won. Lowerhouse with more wins.

Great Harwood actually replied at Greenmount with a huge 348 which earned precisely no bonus points and is still a serious spanking!!! As someone mentioned to me, playing at Greenmount is like playing "kitchen cricket"!!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 6:45 pmOn Friday, Greenmount scored an incredible 268/6 in their t20 game v Tod.

Re: Lancashire League 28th May
I've never been to Greenmount and I'm assuming it's not the biggest of grounds - but 777 is an amazing number of runs to see scored in 100 overs.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 8:59 amGreat Harwood actually replied at Greenmount with a huge 348 which earned precisely no bonus points and is still a serious spanking!!! Re: Lancashire League 28th May
Greenmount might not be the biggest ground however it does have a very good wicket and outfield. I was there during the week, not been on for a couple of years, the place is looking immaculate.

No, it's not big and that definitely contributes to some of the large totals regularly posted and I've been told by players the wicket is usually a batters dream too. It's a lovely ground tbf and a well supported and (seemingly) thriving club.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 9:42 amI've never been to Greenmount and I'm assuming it's not the biggest of grounds - but 777 is an amazing number of runs to see scored in 100 overs.

Both totals at Greenmount were league records apparently. Great Harwood's being the highest ever losing score.

I remember Gt Harwood getting close to chasing down a large score at Padiham once, a few years ago.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 11:31 amBoth totals at Greenmount were league records apparently. Great Harwood's being the highest ever losing score.
It was a cup match so 48 overs. Padiham scored 380 or so and Gt Harwood managed around 350.

Rishton managed to win our 2nd game of the season by beating Colne.

Can’t see any updates from last night’s T20’s but for those interested in the local teams it was a mixed bag with a win for Burnley, losses for Nelson and Colne and a tie for Lowerhouse.

There were two ties in the lancs league last night.
Gt Harwood Pro was the stand out performance with 44 off one over, in his 124.
The price was right as he got 135 for Middleton.

Just looked again off 53, great knock.
I missed last nights cricket, couldn’t make it but looks a good finish again, 6 off Paddy Martin to tie against East Lancs.

Re: Lancashire League 28th May
I went over to East Lancs, what an absolute **** hole that place is now.
Barely anyone there other than those that travelled from Lowerhouse, crap beer and no food available. They didn’t even sweep or remark the wicket between innings.
Another game where House looked dead an buried. Needed 39 from 3 overs with the main batsmen back in the pavilion and the East Lancs pro having one over still to bowl.
Some good running, decent hitting and a bizarre incident that lead to 5 penalty runs meant we needed 10 from the last over. The first two balls saw wickets fall meaning 10 needed from 4 with a young Dec Metclafe at the crease, some hurried singles left 7 off the last ball which Paddy Martin despatched into the bowling green to tie the scores.
I hope it’s a while before we visit there again!

It's a pity that I missed what sounds like a good game. Another last baller after the one at Littleborough last weekend.
However, I've no regrets at missing East Lancs. A grim place, completely lacking any atmosphere. In addition, the climb up Dukes Brow from the station is a killer.
Forecast is for another fine day tomorrow. Bonus.

Re: Lancashire League 28th May
Despite them essentially being Blackburn hiding under a pseudonym, you have to fear for East Lancs. They're actually going pretty well in div 2 this (admittedly early) season and have a competitive side currently, but off the field it's extremely worrying. When you go to basically any other ground club houses and outside seating are well used (sometimes packed) with people socialising, drinking, eating and even occasionally watching the cricket. East Lancs has none of that and that's got to be terminal at some point because the off field revenue is absolutely essential to keeping the on field stuff going. Most other clubs are taking huge amounts on match days (and at other times through functions etc) whichever division they're in, but certainly on the surface East Lancs are taking nowt and haven't for a good while now and it's going to catch up eventually.

Think they had the entire playing surface relayed a few seasons ago, not sure if it was due to drainage issues but the outfield and square, is definitely very new..

Re: Lancashire League 28th May
There will be no sympathy from me. I went there many, many times in the 1960s to 1980s and was always the most unwelcoming of places to go and watch cricket. I went there on my way back from a football pre-season game at Wigan in 1986 and vowed never to set foot in the place again.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 11:05 amDespite them essentially being Blackburn hiding under a pseudonym, you have to fear for East Lancs. East Lancs may be the next Blackburn Northern. The town will just have mid-week cricket before long at this rate.

Very similar to Blackburn town centre these days. The social scene has pretty much died and moved out to surrounding towns, Darwen for example is prospering and new bars and eating places are opening up all the time..Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 11:05 amDespite them essentially being Blackburn hiding under a pseudonym, you have to fear for East Lancs. I in no way wish to be controversial, but I think it's a relevant point relating to this post, I saw a recent survey that Blackburn now has a 40% Asian population. Trcing alcohol are struggling.hat may well explain why town centre bars, and establishments such as cricket clubs serving alcohol
Re: Lancashire League 28th May
The outfield was relayed to make it flat, in some parts it used to be a nightmare when chasing a ball as your feet disappeared from under you and the far side from the road had become very mossy . From memory the initial work carried was to a poor standard and it needed remedial work. Not sure if the square got touched, can’t remember. The wicket at Greenmount has usually been a road during dry periods plus the current groundsman is doing a very good job.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 12:46 pmThink they had the entire playing surface relayed a few seasons ago, not sure if it was due to drainage issues but the outfield and square, is definitely very new..
I reckon it could be over 6 or 7 years ago now when the outfield was done.

Greenmount gone big again.
443 for 8
Pro Snyman 269* from 139

Re: Lancashire League 28th May
Fantastic game at House today. We came out the wrong side for a change of a very tight finish. We've won many games when looking unlikely this season but today i felt we grasped defeat from the jaws of victory.
Bens needless run out when on 99 set the tone. The pro getting cleaned bowled from a loose full toss didn't help either. Once Ben fell we slowed the run rate too much..and lost wickets at key moments.
The last runout..he was in for me..but it shouldn't have got to that.
Looking like an incredibly tight and open league this year.

Wonder if they have suffered at all from the change in status for their neighbours (QEGS). The obvious links where i were there were limited, but you'd imagine less well heeled parents might mean less trickle down to the cricket clubDark Cloud wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 11:05 amDespite them essentially being Blackburn hiding under a pseudonym, you have to fear for East Lancs. Re: Lancashire League 28th May
Yes, there was definitely a tie in with QEGS which helped the club and as mentioned above by another poster the demographic of the area and therefore of the juniors and senior players entering the club has changed enormously over recent years and although playing the game of cricket to pretty high standards may well still be extremely important to the majority of the populace, the massively important social side of the game which inevitably means alcohol sales and other promotions in order to spin the money and thrive, is really not. Plus again (as mentioned above) it doesn't matter what your catchment area is, you still need a group (possibly army) of willing, able, fit and knowledgeable volunteers to make all aspects of a cricket club prosper or indeed survive.ŽižkovClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 8:10 pmWonder if they have suffered at all from the change in status for their neighbours (QEGS). On the subject of pros - Snyman scored 158 for Greenmount two weeks ago and followed that up with 54 not out in the t20 and 269 not out in the league last week. Last night he scored 164 not out in their t20 win at Norden.Somethingfishy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 4:09 pmHouse post 278/4

QEGS still have some tremendous facilities of their own at Lammack, and their own swimming pool. However the focus on Sport appears to be nothing like it was. Saturday football fixtures are much reduced, and standards have dropped considerably. QEGS won the ISFA Cup in 1996,2001 & 2004, and used to play Rugby as a 2nd sport, usually against the 2nd XV's of the major Rugby Schools ..Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 8:57 pmYes, there was definitely a tie in with QEGS which helped the club and as mentioned above by another poster the demographic of the area and therefore of the juniors and senior players entering the club has changed enormously over recent years and although playing the game of cricket to pretty high standards may well still be extremely important to the majority of the populace, the massively important social side of the game which inevitably means alcohol sales and other promotions in order to spin the money and thrive, is really not. Plus again (as mentioned above) it doesn't matter what your catchment area is, you still need a group (possibly army) of willing, able, fit and knowledgeable volunteers to make all aspects of a cricket club prosper or indeed survive.
As for East Lancs, a couple of years ago their 1st XI were largely white, with both their 2nd/3rd teams coming from the Asian population. The situation seems to be more mixed now, which can only be good. As others have said, Blackburn's population in the last census in 2021 showed an Asian/British Asian percentage of 35.8%, and the area around QEGS/East Lancs certainly reflects that.

Tod & Darwen both lost so Lowerhouse top and Burnley second although above Tod only on number of wins with points the same. Lowerhouse are five points clear I think.
