Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Lee Gregory rolling on the floor for 15 seconds and then standing up with nothing wrong with him doesn't help.

I'm sorry, but that is a ridiculous red card decision. Another example of VAR being a joke.

Barnsley hit the bar, definitely not turning out to be their day, so far.

Close from Barnsley. Good reaction to the red

They say they don't want games re-refereeing, but that is so pivotal that it should be rubber stamped by the referee.

The football Gods are certainly smiling on Wednesday.
Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Games gone I’m afraid, a clearer penalty you will not see not given and a 50/50 challenge slightly missed timed is deemed a red… what is the point of VAR if they don’t overturn basic errors like that

Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Wasn’t a pen, both players missed the ball which then hit the knee of the Wednesday player hence no pen for me.
But the red card was a farce, as is VAR, if that ref didn’t give it VAR wouldn’t be telling him it was a clear penalty, but the rules say it has to be a clear error.

Barnsley up against it, but the game not gone away from them yet, playing the better stuff.
Can they keep it up though.

Didn't agree with the red card but it's certainly improved the entertainment value of the game.
Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Why wouldn't you take another look at such a defining moment? Arrogance of the ref to not ask for a second look, and unnecessary and misguided protection of the ref from those in the van. Come on Barnsley!

Terrible decision from Tim Robinson. What with VAR it is still amazing how officials can still ruin a game!

Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Who is this commentator? Is it Weaver? Anyway we've just had 'Michael Duff will be proud of his players'. I would guess he's absolutely Furious at the ref.
Then we have just had 'on a hot day like this'. Bloody clown.

Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
VAR needs binning ASAP - it’s still a human decision to be made at the end of the day and as we’ve seen, seem to really mess up on the big decisions
Also - how does it make sense to have a full year of no VAR in the league, yet implement it in the playoff final?! No consistency.

I'm begging the commentator to just say Bannan instead of Barry Bannan just once.

The temperature readings of 17 degrees are of the air temperature which is taken in shade.
I live just a few miles from Wembley and it’s certainly hotter than 17 degrees in the sun.
Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
I'm hoping Barnsley get on before extra time as they will be knackered if they have to do another 30 mins. Mind you, they will be fit with Duff in charge.

the Sheff weds lad booted right through the back of the Barnsley players calf for the pen, the Barnsley lad got the ball first. I will check a replay at some point for another look but I disagree with what you think you saw from the replays at the timeCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 4:19 pmWasn’t a pen, both players missed the ball which then hit the knee of the Wednesday player hence no pen for me.

Referees can’t ask for a second look. They can only be advised to by the VAR official.

Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Whichever way this ends up, Barnsley have responded really well so far.
Maybe extra time, if it happens, will sap the ten men, but they're not giving up without a fight.
As you'd expect from a Mike Duff team.

Another farce. Ref has only had 2 big decisions to make and got both of them wrong. What’s the point of VAR?

If the "penalty" incident had happened anywhere else on the pitch, it's a foul, no question.

Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Everyone blaming VAR yet not understanding how it works.
Also, if VAR was not used as it hasn’t for the other games this season, the decision would still be the same.

Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
But VAR is being used.
It should be correcting clear and obvious errors. I believe it should have instructed Robinson to look at the monitor for the penalty. As for the red card, one further look would have surely convinced even this referee that he’d got it badly wrong.

Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Can you explain how it got not one but two decisions dreadfully wrong please. I'm not up to it.
Re: Barnsley v Owls Playoff
Having heard the recent audio playback of ref and VAR conversations, it seemed to me that there were ways and means of getting a second look. And if there genuinely aren't, then there should be.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 4:45 pmReferees can’t ask for a second look. They can only be advised to by the VAR official.
Re. the penalty, there is no doubt that Gregory kicked through the Barnsley player's leg but could it be deemed to be inconsequential contact? Not in the sense that it was slight contact (it wasn't) but in the sense that the fouled player had no prospect of scoring after he had touched the ball. That said, plenty of pens given for idiotic handballs where there was no denial of a goalscoring opportunity. It's all guesswork, even though the term "inconsequential contact" seems to be bandied around by pundits, I cannot find a definition online.
Either way, Barnsley have been very hard done by given the red card AND "no pen" decision.
