Your ideal first 6 Premier League fixtures

Post by It Is What It Is » Mon May 29, 2023 7:57 pm

Personally, I'd like to get points in the board asap.
A good start is imperative for points, confidence and consistency.
So when the fixtures come out 9am on 15th June I'd like
In order:
Luton home
Bournemouth away
Wolves home
Fulham away
Crystal Palace home
Brentford away.
...most likely tho.... first match Man City away!

If we had that start the caveat would be the top 6 or 8 teams would make up the majority of our final fixtures.

Maybe a more balanced start for me.

Home to Newcastle after their first away European fixture. Similar with Brighton.

I’d like a mixture of some more winnable fixtures and then some that you’d not dare to suggest are winnable.

Something like this: Nottm Forest, Liverpool, Bournemouth, City, Luton, Newcastle.

I hope it continues like that all season as I prefer a steady picking up of points rather than horrible runs and then a better run.

Always good to get a ‘top 6’ opponent away early when they are a bit rusty (not to mention having a shorter off season than us!)

So I’d probably opt for Spurs or Chelsea away - both in disarray and will be entering managerial & system changes where as we should be a well drilled, battle hardened team (for the most part)

After that a Luton at home probably, followed by a some more low-mid PL away games and another ‘top 6’ at home

The best season we have had in the Premier League saw us play our first five away games at Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Everton and Man City. Everton had finished seventh in the previous season and the others were the top four.

Sometimes it best to get difficult ones in early.

Tottenham (a)
Man City (h)
Liverpool (a)
Manchester United (h)
Chelsea (a)
Newcastle (h)

It would be awful potentially, but we could easily pick a win or two up and be well and be above the bottom three, with arguably six of the hardest matches already completed.

I always want the big teams first before they settle and the promoted teams last when they have had some stuffing knocked out of them.

We've had the whole Pep vs Kompany in the cup last year, so you can bet that Everton will be in the first set of fixtures if they do keep hold of Dyche so we can have the whole build up of Dyche vs Kompany.
Wouldn't mind City in first few games before they get into their stride.

Just want it to be at home for first game, Saturday 3pm with a full Turf, 25C glorious sunshine and the place rocking.

City away

Good to play them when there's nothing at stake

And we might be able to nick something before they hit their groove, especially with their season ending much later then ours

Nailed on we'll get Everton first game if Dyche is still there.

Everton H
Spurs A
Forest H
Fulham A
Brighton H
City A

Nice blend of a few winnable home games, get the Dyche cringe fest and City away over with, while Spurs early on could be, well, Spurs.

City home and away would be good, get them out of the way :) .

Problem is that you like to get the hard ones out of the way but you don't want to be left with 0 points after the first few games. As we found out though, getting points early against the best teams gives you confidence.

If we get 9 points out of first 6 games...that's ok and something to build on.

I’d like a mixture really, but a good first game at home to get us going:

Wolves (H)
Man City (A)
West Ham (H)
Liverpool (A)
Brighton (H)
Fulham (A)

If we are going to be good enough I don't think it will matter if we get some of the big sides first as was proved by Brighton.
Personally would love to get Everton , Forest, Bournemouth and Palace early doors while we have momentum from our promotion.
I think they are all beatable and Dyche at the Turf would be exciting.
Then throw in City away to get it out of the way and Chelsea under Pochettino.
